I personally dont give a about how they do it, to snatch 170 at his weight thats special thats world class this is an AMAZING FEAT i say a big well done to him and screw critisisers WELL DONE!!
A note to coaches: observe that this athlete's hips fully extend and contact the bar solidly; this results in a more vertical pull (called "the Whip"). A properly executed whip results in the rearward movement of the feet (and a straighter bar trajectory; good to see that this technique is finally catching on in North America). Incomplete pulls often result in forward movement of the feet and a rearward swinging of the bar that places the lifter in an awkward bottom position.
Excellent example of proper follow through on the pull. Solid control throughout, textbook lift. Good luck in future competitions; this is an athlete to watch (over 27 years experience in the game myself).
As for the steroid comments, they are getting a little old. Olympic weightlifting is so highly scrutinized by the media and IOC, that most lifters have little choice but to play it clean. Besides, steroids do not aid in the speed, flexibility, and overall agility required in completing such dynamic manoeuvres. The snatch is a highly technical movement requiring years of practice to perfect to this level.
I very much agree with you. BUT somethings were wrong. You probobly just wrote it fast and dont care for little mistakes but...Olifting is such a political sport. You only get caught for juice if your supposed to get caught for juice. If your making the company lots of money, they won't "find" it. And steroids DO increase speed by large amounts.
I can see that you are a newcomer to this sport. Instead of criticizing top performers, I recommend that you take some time to study their technique. There is a very good one of Yurik Vardanian snatching 180.5 played @ 3% speed. This video is also excellent.
Olympic weightlifting needs constructive criticism within its ranks, not tired old commentary from individuals who do not understand the sport.
I can't believe no one said anything about the music playing. That place should have been quiet.
