    Customer Reviews:

Seriously, who needs a dvd player in their dash? All you need is a good unit that plays your music, and this one plays it all. It will handle all the standard CD, CDR, mp3, WMA, AAC files along with iPod. The iPod controls are excellent. iPod is the only mp3 player I have tried and I suspect others won't work, at least not well. I was ...

  • Thanks for the detailed review. I was on the fence between this an a Kenwood deck, after watching this I have no doubts about which one I'm going to purchase.

  • Can you still control the tracking of the songs with the steering wheel? Or is there a extra piece/hit to do so?

  • Its a great radio unit..

  • I upgraded my headunit to a Pioneer AVIC u310BT. I miss this deck. It had a much better build quality and I hate touchscreen for driving. This deck was better! And if I want to show off how big my screen is just come into my living room :p

  • @bpacheco6 how much is this 2 din? im planning to buy it this week

  • @WeedSavesMe I dont think they make this model anymore

  • If youre going to get double.din why wouldn't you want.a bigger screen

  • while the iphone/ipod is plugged into the usb can you still control the songs from the ipod?

  • @TreMiller30 Yes, you just hit ipod ctrl onscreen

  • If you have the blue tooth hooked up can you also run an aux. Cord ? Or is it one or the other? Thanks.

  • @lr3usmc Yes you can run aux and bluetooth for calls at same time. the call will interrupt aux playback

  • Does anybody know if this radio plays phone call audio through the car speakers?

  • lots of glare from that shiny screen but it was much better than my new deck, the AVIC U310 LCD is horrible in sunlight. with this one as long as you dont have a sunroof open it is pretty good.

  • nope blue only

  • Can you change the led light colours so it matches the original car dash lighting colours? I need something with green

  • @dangerday20 did it myself so $0

  • Did you know this headunit will play WAV files from a USB thumbdrive? You aren't really getting the best sound using the ipod with compressed files. The thumbdrive with lossless WAV files will sound much cleaner and more detailed.

  • @ytj22 i have no idea! and i can agree with you about the wav files. Just never try it. I hate ipods but once you use a usb drive...half the songs dont work on these deck. Unfortunately todays in car headunits are tailored for ipods and lack support for anything else.

  • the trick is to go to tubifier.com to download this mp3.

  • Thanks for making this video review. I'm in the market for this or the Kenwood and I was mostly worried about the ipod controllability since traditionally, these decks don't seem to let you use the ipod for control when connected digitally.

I'm still kind of torn between this and the Kenwood DPX503 (more fun looking display & some pretty awesome sound features but lacking the 3rd preout I need and iffy daytime readability)

Anyway, this helps - thanks again!

  • i have the same car..and i was wondering can you put speakers under your seats in the back

  • Hey, thanks for posting this vid. i decided to buy and install one of these after seeing your videos, which I think points out what the receiver does well and does not do well..

  • I'm thinking about buying this CD player for my Infiniti. I just have one question. Can you change the lighting to other colors? All my dash lights and buttons are red. Great video too.

  • there is an option to have control via the ipod if you wish. As for explorer, a friend with a pathfinder also has an explorer and installed a deck like this in his, he didnt seem to have any troubles with it

  • @bpacheco6 i just bought the same hu for my car i listen to the same kind of music pink floyd metallica ect i have the sony xav-60 whitch is a peice of shit very slow and i have all kinds of noise probleme cuz of the shitty 2volt output use to have a pioneer deh-p5000ub whit 4 volt rca it was perfect so im gonna return to pioneer and 7 band eq ftw

  • And can you control your iPod music choice through the iPod, or do you have to do it through the head unit?

  • Was the install fairly easy? Thinking about getting one, but is going to be temporarily set up with the stock speakers. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer. Would it fit or would your recommend it? All of the lights on the stock stereo unit have gone out and it would be pretty cool to have a new one with Bluetooth and iPod player built in.

  • Lol... "It can't be better than it is" That's what sold me man, I'll be buying one soon...

  • I have this same deck, and I like it.. but setting up new bluetooth devices is confusing as hell. I managed to get my Cowon S9 bluetooth capable media player to sync up with it, but I have no idea how I did it. The menu system seems kind of unintuitive/sloppy when you venture into the bluetooth settings. I've been trying to figure out how to sync up my HTC phone for bluetooth audio (so I can listen to Pandora in the car), and I can't for the life of me figure it out.

  • yes illumination works as long as you wire the proper cable on the harness

  • does the display brighten or dim when you turn the headlights on?

  • does the display brighten or dim with the headlights?

  • thanks for the video. helped me decide on a unit... one question- you mentioned it not working that well with a HD? and recomend using a Ipod instead? what HD did you use? and what was bad about it???

  • Fab one, thanks mate! :)

  • dream theatre classic , im going to be playing that also when i get my new head unit- was looking at this one- good vid cheers ,

  • thanks bro , nice review ....five star

  • any bluetooth phone is compatible, bluetooth is a standard so its definately a must. Unless you want to listen to music from your phone, then you need the A2DP feature on your phone. I used to have the motorola Q9h, which is pretty much the same spec phone as the newer jack, and more importantly, runs on Windows Mobile, i had version 6.1 at the time and it functioned just fine

  • I really appreciate the feed back and I will definitely invest in this radio. Again thanks.

  • That was an excellent review. I'm looking for a double DIN for my 2010 Tundra and I really like this, but I have concerns for the compatability of my Samsung Jack (newest model). Im wondering if there is a list of phones it can pair up with. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • No I didn't buy an hd tuner although I have considered it

  • did you buy a HD tuner along with this unit?

  • i sold this deck in october but from what i remember you could jump through artists a-b-c-d quickly using the remote i think. its been so long

  • Are you able to go through your artists/songs alphabetically? That is, are you able to jump right to the artists that begin with "C" for example.

  • Can you change the color of the display???

    thx

  • @trucas ...no and why would you when you can do custom work to change all other displays/buttons on the vehicle to blue....LOL it took me weeks but the result was awesome (originally my hvac, gauges, compass, etc was wa dull white and i custom soldered leds etc to get everything blue. then i sold the decvk for the u310bt with nav a month later!)

  • thanks

  • How do you get your phone to sync automatically? I have a Motorola Krzr and have to manually turn on the bluetooth every time I get in the car which is super inconvenient. I'm hoping that I'm just missing out on something.

  • Edit....fm tuner OR aux jack

  • There is currently no in car integration for the zune aside from ford sync as far as I know. If there was any deck out there that played zune I'd get rid of my deck and stupid Ipod and get a new zune and whatever deck works with it. I hate how much apple has consumed the market. Only options for zune owners are the horrible GM tuner, aux jack which still needs control from the zune.

  • Will it play a Zune HD?

  • wonderful review!

  • Thanks for this vid. I bought this unit after being impressed with it here. I exchanged a Sony double-din unit for this one due to the superior sound quality of Pioneer. However, for some reason the phone bluetooth is having trouble. Others can't understand me when I'm talking. The mic is placed where yours is. Any ideas? I'm using an iPhone 3G that works fine with my bluetooth head set. Thanks!

  • make sure the mic is aiming directly at you and that the line is either exactly vertical or horizontal. Also if you lean your seat back very far it could be too far for the mic to hear. The mic is very directional, people cant hear the passenger next to me joining into the convo only my voice. It could also be your phone, I had superior sound quality with my Motorola Q9, but when I upgraded to the blackberry storm, people sometimes complain of my voice being too low....it could be phone volume?

  • Thanks for the help bpacheco6. I've adjusted the mic position and will be soon testing it out.

  • Hey im lookin to install a new deck in my 01 pathy. Prob is I have the bose 6disc changer and the radio. The changer is stuck and ate some cd's and the radio is going. I want something big that will take up the room of both of those the cd player and radio. I dont have an ipod, is it worth spending the money to get this system. I have just a normal cheapo mp3 player.

  • you will have no problems installing this one, my friend has a 01 pathy with a pioneer double din deck. It will solve all your problems with your current deck. You dont need an ipod, you can connect your cheapo mp3 via the aux cable which goes into your headphone jack, OR you can connect it via USB, but you may have issues reading all the songs, or you can just stick to CD's either way its definitely worth the money. especially for the bluetooth functionality with your phone.

  • Thanks broski

  • great video.. hey did it come with the mic?

  • it sure did with plenty of wire to run it anywhere you wish

  • was gonna get that deck but i decided to get a better one touch screen and shit....suck it

  • LOLLLL this guys so dumb he didnt even realize ive since upgraded...you suck it, moron.

  • Hey great vid!I just bought this same deck the other day its awesome!love the the built in bluetooth and how easy it is to use

  • Thanks for the vid. Im getting the crappy i ipod touch 32G 3G for xmas, and after checking this wicked deck, im thinking im gonna have to get one of these very soon.

  • "I hate ipod's..."

What the frak is wrong with you? lol

  • where is the aux cable?? and the ipod?? i cant see it.

  • both those are located on the back of the unit for cleanliness, i routed the cables into my glovebox as said and shown in the video. If you can see your ipod or aux cable your more likely to forget them in the vehicle in plain view and get your stuff stolen. At least its not as obvious if their hidden, even though most thieves will know to check in glovebox. it still looks much cleaner than ugly cables everywhere

  • well that's true.. but.. i like to control the music I'm listening and not just leave my mp3 with random music.. that's the point

  • maybe you should watch the video again.....i was controlling my ipod from the deck, going through artists, albums, playlists......thats the point. If you want to control direct from your ipod you can there is a feature to switch to control from it, but its stupid if you can control it from the deck.

  • i see.. but i don't use ipod. i have a sony mp3.. do you have any idea if i can control it as well. or just for ipods?

  • OHHHH!!!!!! I have no knowledge of sony MP3's but I can tell you for sure it wont work unless the mp3 can act as a hard drive. For example I tried my zune and it didnt work with USB, you have to use an aux cable and control it with the mp3 itself. NOW i get what you mean. i hate ipods myself i ended up trying to use a regular external hard drive as an alternative with this deck and it only reads half the songs no matter what I use, you NEED an ipod or else you wont be happy with this deck

  • It has a USB!

  • so mate can u connect the ipod in the usb ?? and u can control it from the radio??

  • yes! all the controls with music I did on the video were from an ipod stored in the glovebox..connected to the back usb port of the pioneer deck

  • really?? cool dude so you dont have to buy the ipod cable ,!1 thats good im definetely getting one

  • where is the usb port??

  • as discussed above the USB port is at the back of the unit and an extension cable is provided so you can route your device into your glovebox.

  • Cool stuff, really interested in this head unit to replace my factory no thrills Ford one. What kind of security / anti theft features does it have? Does it have a PIN code? Cheers

  • there are no security features, the only slightly good feature is that the unit looks like a stock headunit as most theives look for single din or nav screens. when off the unit looks really basic. There is no PIN code

  • very neat stuff man

  • just dont get jacked x D

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!!

  • Thank you for your review!! I might just have to buy one tonight!

  • Pink Floyd, good taste in music ;)

  • Hey Awesome Video!! I just ordered mine 5 minutes ago.

Yours came with an ipod interface cable? Cause it says its not included in the package. How was the installation of it? U had to get a wire adapter right?

  • youll love it! ive had mine for 7 months now! only complant is it gets dirty easy and I cant figure out how to get rid of the beep when you change songs, it seems like theres an internal speaker, Ill probably take it apart to get rid of it

the ipod interface cable-there is an included USB extension cable then you just use the cable you use with your ipod to sync to the PC and thats it! by wire adapter you mean the harness to change your factory wiring to that of pioneer then yes lol enjoy!

  • If I recall from taking a ride in my old man's truck a month or so ago, you might be able to get rid of the internal beep noise.....

Just click in and hold the rotary nob until the menu option comes up and scroll through those options. It might be one of those. if not, sorry for misleading you.

  • ordered mine 5 mins ago too, ebay!

  • Nicely done video.

  • no i didnt even install regular radio, i hate commercials lol i hope you enjoy it....if you use your ipod alot then your REALLY going to like it

  • Awesome video man.... I think I'm getting this now!!! I'm a little scared of not having a detachable face. I live in an awesome area, but where I drive, might not be as good of an area... I have an 2004 Avalon, and can't wait to buy this...

  • yeah i live in a not so great area, its a risk you need to take i guess. But the avalon is an upscale car so this deck, being double DIN could trick the dumber theives into beleiving its the stock deck. when its off its not so flashy and is pretty plain.

  • Bought it!! Getting it on Wednesday... Very excited... Did you install the HD RADIO tuner? I mainly use the IPOD, but i want perfection...

  • dude i moved to miami like a year ago, and 2 days after i moved, i got my shit stolen man! i had 2 15's 2 big amps nice fukin pioneers speakers, and jvc receiver... everything was gone! about $2000 in total... i moved to orlando now and im never going back to miami, i hate it. but I want this pioneer, looks nice!

  • @johsy haha turn your subs off and tuck your chain in big guy!

  • yep - after this presentation I´m gonna buy that pioneer. thank you for this !

  • Nice work man, even testing Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd, a song i would actually listen to on this deck!

I'm presuming since you have hooked up a mic it, it doesnt have one built in or have you just added that for optimal quality?

  • yeah thanks man! it came with a mic and mic holder, everything you need is included aside from a mounting kit,. even the ipod was plug and play with the supplied USB input cable

  • is it possible to turn off the beeping noise?

  • to this day i still havent figured out how to get rid of that, i wish i could

  • id stick to pioneer but just watch out for the USB issues, it might just be my deck or my model. If your going to buy an all in one setup just make sure its all ready to go. all these new systems are *bluetooth ready* *ipod ready* blah blah, its useless because the adapters are so expensive afterwards. As far as phone goes this was the reason I got this HU and its never let me down its phone function is absolutely flawless

  • nice review, will this thing handle a 1Tbyte external usb drive and if it does is the navigation good enough not to be scrolling for hours to find tracks?

  • I had a 120GB drive, 4GB drive, memory stick, i tried a ton of USB devices and could never get it to read ALL the tracks. For some reason, mp3, tags, everything done properly...it refuses to read them. I dont like ipods but got one just because it works so good with this deck. if you want to go 1TB get a touchscreen, easier to navigate, and make sure you bring your drive and try it in store as pioneer has issues with non-ipod USB devices lately

  • Nice one thanks, im using an M-Station at the moment but I want a more integrated system, phone and stuff. Can you recommend a touch screen system to start my search

  • dbl din looks so cool. cant fit mine! 8(.i got reg cd-mp3 input-smart song tag goodie. happy with it!. noce system and ride. interior looks to be designed well.

  • the usb is indeed at the back, a long extension cable is supplied though to plug in any usb device/ipod a few feet away from the head unit

  • Is the USB port in the back? Can you get to it without taking the whole unit out? Thanks.

  • no you cant do any changes to the colour

  • hey man thanks for the vid i am getting this unit. one question. is it possible to change the display to different shades of blue?

  • yeah the sound adjustments are decent, you can do alot of equalizer adjustments and adjust sub volume as well. Soundwise...its a hell of a lot better than my old jvc deck

  • im looking for a head unit that provides the best sound quality and bass to rock my kicker 12s. would u recommend this one?

  • by the way i keep my pioneer remote in the same spot u keep ur 7 gum. lush is a delicious flavor u should try it. (its orange)

  • 7 gum? i gotta try some of that, i usually roll with 5 gum there bud LOL adam...you are a total noob. Remote in that position is stupid. whats the point really. Why reach all the way over there when you can put it right in the cupholder...my arm doesnt evn have to leave the armrest! reaching over there is the same as reaching the HU! LOL just breakin your balls man

  • Thanks for the video. I think I'm going to purchase this unit in the near future.

  • WOW nice one adam lmfao thx for the compliments everyone im glad it was an informative video i should have gone more into detail. like how you can DIAL a number on the remote, and the MANY sound settings you can customize

  • what in the hell is a qx4

  • I just got a new-ish car and was checking this deck out. I thought your review was very useful and the only video I've seen that actually shows someone using the interface and how the phone works. Great information and good tips too!

  • Nice Deck Dude. I have a kenwood ddx-512 it is a very good investment and I have 2 12" 1000W MTX Magnum Subs. I will post up a video soon.

P.S. thanks for the firewall tip.
