I never learn stuff the way you're supposed. When I watched the video of this live I didn't think I'd be able to learn it properly so I made up a version within my capabilities.

I spent a long time trying to play songs just as they were in recording,s and always being just a little bit dissatisfied. Then I realised the point of a cover is to put a little bit of YOU in there - I stopped aiming for note-perfect, and just played (and sang) what I thought sounded good (or maybe even better), suited my instrument and voice, was easier to finger, sometimes different keys and chords I thought suited me better, etc... so good for you! ;-)

Oh I see, well yes I have put in a lot of work. I play nearly every day and that takes effort because I'm the working mother of an autistic 6 year old. I find my whole life rewarding and music is an important part of that - but I don't think I'd want to dedicate my whole life to it; I need variety and balance.
