As soon as you said it's like breathing through a straw, I actually grabbed one and tried to breath through it climbing my stairs. Jeeze dude, I don't get how you could even live like that. O_o
(I know I have said this on other pages) however I really think that all student doctors should be required to watch Mystery Diagnosis in order to graduate. Anyone else agree?
I appreciate these vids. I was diagnosed with this last week (after years of being diagnosed w/ asthma). I'm 39, and my breathing has been deteriorating for several years now. Fear of stairs and slight inclines in parking lots/streets: yeah, that's my life. I've spent the last few years trying to hide the symptoms from friends and coworkers, but I can't run from a blood test (hell, I can't run at all!). It's good to see someone who found a solution, but it's scary knowing where this road leads.

I aint a doctor yet. but when you were having "long lasting mutable infections" shouldent that alone been enough for them too look into what was causing it? Would of made me go "whoa somethings not right here"
For a year now I went from being a runner, to almost unable to step on my feet caused by sharp and twisting pain. I went from doctor to doctor in two countries, all the blood tests and MRI's look normal, all other tests do also, and my feet look normal. The pain is spreading to my hands and back which caused me alot of physical and emotional pain, but we are still searching. Could anyone suggest a test I can undergo, or a suggestion. Doctors are saying it is serious. I'm 14 :/
It sounds like you have what the lady in the last video I watched had, RSD, or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. Look up the video on youtube, Mystery Diagnosis: RSD. Good Luck :)
Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency is not that rare. The occurrence is estimated at 1 in 2000 to 3000 in the western world. It's probably the 3rd most common genetic disease. I was accused of damaging my liver through excessive alcohol consumption, 6 months later I was diagnosed with alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency. The condition is destructive to the liver or lungs or both.
Now having had a liver transplant I acknowledge the donors and their families are the real heroes not the patients.
It's caused by not having normal levels of AAT enzymes in the blood stream.
The AAT ennzymes are "deformed" and become trapped in the liver. The build up of AAT can cause Cirrhosis - and lack of AAT in the blood (which you NEED to maintain healthy lungs) causes the emphysema/and scarring.
I could be stranded on an deserted island - and my lung would continue to RAPIDLY deteriorate.
IV infusions of human blood plasma is the only treatment before transplant.
Secret to mystery diagnosis when they say the doctors name that's when the solution will be found

That's true... it's not rare. Just rarely diagnosed correctly.
I too have A1AD. zz lung effected.
Had 3 close relative die from Cirrhosis.
They too were accused of 'drinking too much'. It's a shame. My poor grandmother never had so much as a drop of alcohol in her entire life.
She also had severe breathing problems.
I have the lungs of a 95 yr old chain smoker!
It's sucks. lol
crazyPAgirl 3 years ago
its probably caused by being exposed to smokers...passive smokers have 3-4x prone to any lung disease compared to active
phoebster101 2 years ago
