Now I just want to get the Stanley Ketchel book written by Nat Fleisher. But GD its 300 (the Wilde bio was 300 on Amazon U.S., but I got it for 40 pounds sterling [about 90 when you count shipping and worth every penny, over christmas i'm going to "fix" his wikipedia page and transcribe the book to MSWord to share w/ any fans of Jimmy's who can't afford it, if you'd like a copy, give me time to do it and leave me a mssg and i'll send it to you)
@MrLukedanger got his after the hearns fight, although pryor did to a degree after Arguello, there was the Panama Lewis controversy. Sugar Ray Leonard was afraid of (amateurs and pros) Aaron Pryor and, had they fought, Pryor would've ko'd him (b/c if Arguello couldn't stop him w/ those 3 or 4 bombs he landed, Ray had no chance). Anyway, yes it was nice talking to you too, guess what I just bought? An import of the high dollar Jimmy Wilde book, "Fighting was my business" Simply Amazing!!!
@RapedByRepublicans ok if thats true then awnser me this. why is it that when ray leonard asked aron pryor to fight him aron said no? funny he runs around saying he's better than leonard so when ray asks him to prove it he chikens out. ive no doubt that if they fought as amatuers then aron would win but as a pro ray was so much better and pryor knew it and wanted no part of ray.
@CHETINES323 too true, it upsets me greatly when people put Manny in the top 25 all time (and the fact that he himself wears around a shirt that says #1 lb for lb all time... thats a joke, its disrespectful, I like a guy like Mike Tyson who, despite his greatness, knew his place amongst the pantheon of past fighters... hell Larry Holmes once said "I don't know the Joe Louis era that was before my time..., what a joke how can you not know Joe Louis?) MP and FMJ would be lucky to be top 50alltime
@kareema benny leonard? crap? he would beat any current fighter below super middle, any fighter. probably could beat bute, ward, or froch too. martinez? on pts. if not a ko. boxers were better then b/c they were tougher, today's nutrition and size? (well if they were born now they'd have it too), but that isn't whats important, its the toughness of working in a mine at 8 or fighting for food, that and the timing and imagination, thats what leonard and robinson had that pacman and pbf lack
@MrLukedanger O.k., that is true, but I don't think (and I know poverty is much worse in other parts of the world) its the same, I don't know. It really doesn't matter, all of this is soooo subjective and difficult to decide on. Its almost impossible to try to compare eras b/c of the larger people, different standards (hey, if Brandon Rios were fighting in 1920, he would be a middleweight, as they weighed in right before the fight, he couldn't fight at 135 if he weighed 154), diff styles, etc.
@RapedByRepublicans its so different that is true, most fights were descided by news paper writers at ring side, Jersey joe wallcott v joe louis, wallcott destroys him for 15 rounds then gets the descision. alot of greats and most of them only got called greats after they die/retire. boxing is all opinion no wright or wrong answer. hell i have favorite list best of all time list and there so different.
@MrLukedanger too true my friend too true. I wanted to say, though... one thing I particularly have to disagree with. Ted Kid Lewis the greatest british fighter of all time? Nosir, the answer is Jimmy Wilde. But Kid Lewis is certainly #2 (isn't it funny that Jimmy's manager was named Ted Lewis too, when I was younger I thought it was the same guy, till I realized they were from the same era) Pryor is a really underappreciated fighter (like Hagler to some degree but Hagler finally...)
What can I say, I just like the old fighters better, I like the fact that Jack Britton and Kid Lewis fought each other 25 times, that Langford fought Harry Wills (when he was way past his prime) so many times, etc. Its just what I like, but I've decided to stop evey trying or taking it very seriously, we should all be able to just agree that we love boxing, you know? You clearly know a lot about the stuff, so I respect you, you were respectful to me, I think i'll just leave it at that... thanx
@RapedByRepublicans kid lewis one of the best p4p fighters ever and the best fighter to come out of england, no doubt you know your stuff, i liked emile griffith before he killed in the ring, ted kid lewis got cheap shoted by carpentier and we all know that carpentier got to fight dempsey after that, benny lynch one of the greatest fighters ever never trained proply in his life just drank whisky, gratziano, fulmer, bascilo, zale, pryor and many more i love HW the most
