I always wondered why there was only few ships Brunnen Gee could get to fight His Divine Shadow? Were other Brunnen Gee already exterminated or what? Or the attack was as sudden that only few ships could go to fight?
@DarthDregan right, funny as I just watched I and was like ''ah!" and then remebered that I posted this question here. I probably thought that they'll never answer this question as it didn't seem relevent anymore after His Divine Shadow's demise (even though Mantrid still lives)
Interesting story. I saw this show once ages ago, and all I could remember of it was this song. Havent thought about this show or song for years. Then I heard this song on a video for a game I want to play, and I found myself singing along XD Thus began my search to find the original source, and here I am~
lmao god damnit, I had this chant stuck in my head on and off for years, and I just now decided to look it up... This show looked cooler when I was 8.
As a screenwriter I'd do this.In the beginning of the season Kai,Stan and Xev learn that somewhere in the Universe there is a time machine. After some adventures they find it and get a chance to turn back time and go to Brunnis-2 before it was destroyed. And the last scene should be like this scene where Brunnen-G are fighting with His Divine Shadow, but now, thanks to the Lexx, they gonna win the battle! So,Kai is alive,Brunnis is saved, and all the crew can happily live there!
@aaandronova Nice idea but if Brunnis-2 wasn't destroyed then none of the events of the series would have happened and as such they couldn't subsequently travel back in time to save the planet...
Is it just me, or does the Brunnen G battle hymn sound like a song or chant from a civilisation long past and long forgotten? I've always found it had a rather strange haunting quality that is very hard to find and suggests that it's based on something much older than it actually is...
@kirkland500 I read that the composer was of Russian descent, and, being Russian myself must admit I noticed some weird familiar quality about it, to the old music I used to hear there.
I think I'm going to introduce several of my Warhammer buddies to this song, so when we are losing an Apoc game, we will start singing and start up the final charge. Of course, we will teach various comrades this song as well.
Serious question. Does anyone know of a link where I can get the first four episodes from? i.e. the orig. prog? It was too good to lose.. had it on VHS.. but as you know.. obsolete...any help or info would be greatly appreciated!
Lexx was truly a original series not even Farscape was this "weird" in a way like so many other good things this series came very late to Sweden and went on ridicolusly late hours between 2 and 3 in the FRIGGIN MORNING!
I agree, the first season is lacking in alot of aspects, but the show really picks up and i'm now a huge fan. Just finished all 4 season about a day ago.
Agree, this is one of those shows when you first watch it you don't know what to make of it, so you figure you better watch some more. In Season 2 it really picks up and shows more flavor. I really enjoyed this show for it's weirdness, adult content, humour and a sense of character struggle.
I tried watching this show but I just barely made it through the first episode. It seemed like it dragged on too long. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Farscape and and SG-1. This song was pretty cool though.
@SonOfCallaugh The first season is unlike the rest of the series - those eps are basically mini-movies, and (without getting flamed for it) the actress playing Zev is TERRIBLE! :D But they eventually replace her, and things really pick up in later seasons. Just get through the early eps for the sake of backstory, and you'll be glad you did. :)
still think this scene is amazeing and pulls you straight in lexx is so differnt to other sci fi stuff it has its own personailty if you know what i mean great funny and cool loved it as a child still do
@bradwolf07 Yes. And they look at me for a few minutes. And sometimes the say "How smart are you/?" and I often say "Not smart enough. I'm still stuck on this island." They laugh and so do I.
Ever since I have hummed this song over and over. A few people would hear it and say "Whats that song?" I would tell them "Its a war cry of a dead race. Dead, but never forgotten."
@DarthDregan dude theres a huge difference between listening to this and actually going out chanting it in public and if asked about it, telling people "its a war cry of a dead race. Dead, but never forgotten." But, no you're right i am slightly geeky as well im not going to deny it.
i can see why His Divine Shadow wiped out the Brunnen G, you don't send a single squadron of fighters to take out a planet destroying flagship, you use massive swarms of them with full support from capital ships and orbital guns if they're available
@aracaen Later episodes explain that the Brunnen G had almost forgotten their warrior past and became idol philosophers. Kai was one of the few that were willing to actually fight against His Divine Shadow and even then it was only after the oracle prompted him to. That and its assumed that HDS neutralized planetary defenses before moving the big gun into play as any smart strategists would do.
This is THE show that originally got me into SciFi. Ah, how I loved the first season. I shall never tire of it. Though... I really wish they would of kept the original actor for Zev though... I liked her better then the replacement.
You get a thumbs up from me. Brilliant battle song! First series was the best in my opinion. So brutal. Second was good too. Cant say I'm fond of the third. Is it worth watching the forth?
@himbam339 mantrid destroyed the universe, altough yeah he was kind of a mix of the devine shadow and a human, not like the actual human host of the devine shadow tho... he was something else
It was sad, but at least he can finally be at peace. Just goes to show how time flows in a circle, from birth to life to death to afterlife/rebirth - or from a civilization's rise to power, reaching a peak, then falling, only for it to happen all over again. I'm still hoping for a Season 5 where Kai is reincarnated and isn't some kind of masochistic crazy actor person. Considering he wasn't alive but not fully dead, I think that reincarnation was missing a few Kai bits.
Of what? There are obvious references or reinterpretations throughout different episodes, true, and some could be considered parodies, but I can't think of a single show or book that would have all of it from Seasons 1 to 4 incorporated as one story. Personally, it wouldn't matter much to me if it was. I enjoyed it.
This show is so over-the-top! I can't help but wonder if the creators made it as a joke XD. Anyway, it's hilariously awesome. I think I like it more than MST3K.
A few years back I was at a BBQ party and started humming this under my breath while getting my burger. The guy next to me picked up the tune and the next and the next. By the end of the song there are a dozen of us singing this full force. Completely spontaneous and completely awesome. After, we just nodded to each other and carried on. Everyone else was wtf was that?!?
@temptingsylph, bingobeawr, kittykat5787, mcflurey667 Ya, it was very awesome which is why I remember it so well. I just wish me and my partner would have remembered to start singing this when we were on our reality tv show (cwd2). That would have been a great pump-up before a driving challenge.
