read Charles Barkleys autobiography he said how stoic the Dr was, and that Moses and Bobby Jones were more approachable. Commercials just don't show how people truly are. Nothing against Dr J, he didn't say he was stuck up just real quiet. He also said he played as hard as he could every night and lead by that example but he wasn't one to come over to anybody and in the locker room to give an encouraging word. Can't be everything to every body

@cbaldwinjr: Nike didn't create the hood or the problems in the hood. If those other companies you mentioned made better-looking or better-performing sneakers, maybe Nike wouldn't be so dominant. People weren't dying for those sneakers because they couldn't compare to Nikes. Nike had the best marketing which made people want their shoes. Would you rather they didn't advertise or would you rather those other companies advertise better and make inner-city kids want to kill for their shoes?

Good observation.... Converse had the 3 biggest names in basketball, at the time, but look how far they have fallen

If converse has signed Jordan, would the things have turned out differently, for everybody (ie Nike, Converse, Reebok).

Nike was smart.. They gave Jordan the biggest endorsement deal for an athlete ever, and they used creative ad campaigns, with Spike Lee and other peeps

They were smart enough to make their brand about conveying an image...Converse stuck to basketball. However, no one I know ever got shot for a pair of Energy Star's. Nike, for all its genius, is partly to blame for some of the ills of the inner-city. Sneakers being more important than fundamentals like education, etc. It DOES cut a wide swath. I mean, people weren't dying for Adidas, British Knights, K-Swiss, Troops, Reeboks, or Puma's. Just sayin...
