Charles I tried to end the madness of WW1. He was thwarted by the French who were hoping that the Americans would join because of their ties with Britain.

If the US had not gotten involved; the British and Germans would have worked things out...both were near exhaustion. Also, Russia might not have fallen to the Bolsheviks .

Austria and Catholics? It does not surprize me that the info in this video have the facts wrong on the Ottoman empire. I just wathed a docu on the 700 years of Habsburg's of Austria. Lots of collectable arts! I did not know anything about them so I find it all interesting

Interesting but the commentary incorrectly states that Charles became Emperor in 1914. In fact, he acceded to the Austro-Hungarian throne after the death of his great-uncle Franz Josef I, who reigned from 1848 until his death in November 1916.
