Amazing how the prices started to drop as soon as President Bush said that he would no longer block domestic drilling though, isn't it? Want to know why? Because speculators saw that there was a real chance that our supplies would increase, and just the chance of that happening made them dump stocks.
I significant part of why the oil prices have gone up is because of expectations of future supply. The US government is not allowing oil drilling in places where we think there are large amounts of oil. If we allow drilling, then the oil market will see an increase in the expectation of future supply. This will cause the oil prices to go down now.
