  • I never thought his solos were anything special. I just thought his strength came in song writing and creating some rather catchy riffs.

  • wow this has really made me want to go revisit Suede's music.I kind of ditched them after Bernard left but I must say that there are a lot of gems here. He is a great guitarist in his own right.

  • @nahgajorma HE LEFT THE BAND BECAUSE HIS ASS WAS BRUTALLY FUCKED BY THE FAGGERT SINGER!!

  • You have to have "Every Monday Morning Comes" on this list. His best moment in my opinion.

  • He was 17 actually when he joined.

  • Richard is brilliant.

  • He is specific...

  • Poor Oakes, must have spent his whole career being compared to Bernard Butler, with people being quick to show hostility at him and his ability just because of what he had to follow. Whether Oakes successfully filled Butlers shoes or not, he did a fucking amazing job and fitted in incredibly with Suede's music 1994 onwards. It's the same story with Metallica, no matter how great the later bassists are, theres always gonna be those lame fans that shun their abilties just because they aren't Cliff

  • Bentswood Boys outdo any noiserock solo Bernard's ever made. i just like how richard made that guitar sound.

  • Sound of the Streets.........quiet nostalgic,.. Electricity.....electrifying!

  • Richard Oakes is one of the most creative guitarists of the 90s.

  • Oakes did well for the first album he did with suede but you have to realize that he had been making riffs since he started playing the guitar. Richard cannot make nearly the number of brilliant guitar parts given equal time as Bernard can. Bernard is a sub-conscious player and melodies just flow through him. Oakes is a cerebral player, more intentional less instinct. Both great but imho there's no comparison. Bernard Rules!

  • What ever became of Richard Oakes? He is an outstanding guitarist.

  • Can someone tell me more about Oakes?? When did he actually left suede?

  • He joined band in 94 after Butler's leaving. He was only 18 then ! He played in Suede until they broke up in 2003.

  • lovely. glad to see you made and posted it after the bernard one! yeah, richard was underrated. i like his guitar playing too. suede did have two great guitarists!

  • how about the third one ??

  • I love 'sadie' guitar solo! its so melancoric and fit the song

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Richard we miss uuu....talented and so underrated!!!

    LOVE U RICH...

  • STARCRAZY!!!!

  • Starcrazy hasn't got any solo. There's only one riff after 2nd chorus. Btw. great song ;-)

  • & trash Riff

  • His solos are extremely repetitive and lacking in dramatics. He's a talented guitarist without question.

  • @rotarydialz You have to think then that all Suede songs are repetitive as is the nature of music ie, ABC etc. If you know anything about music you will understand what I'm talking about.

  • @rotarydialz

i really like repetition.......its kind of important in music........i prefer Oakes to Butler

  • wow thanks for posting

  • where is 'beautiful ones'?

  • Where is This Time?!?!

  • so where are we are the pigs solo? it's awesome

  • Music on Dog Man Star was written by Butler with the exception of 'The Power'.

Check out my video with Butler's solos ;)

  • Butler did co write The Power, he just didn't play guitar on the track, cos he'd left by that point. Never mind solos, i quite like the guitar riffs on obsessions.

  • He just left before the album got released. The album was already recorded when he left.

  • Miss him...

  • Thanks for this.

...btw chaps, Richard is workin' with Sean McGhee right now. They're workin' on Richard's new material~

  • This guy is a genius- but someone needs to drag him back into the spotlight. Come back RIchard!

  • If he had wrote more on head music it would have been better

  • He is more of a chord-picking, raw, in-your-face, creative-bombhouse. And to arrive in a band like Suede, playing the way he did, at the age of 17 is pretty incredible. Butler must have shit his pants when he heard this young kid playing his guitar parts, and writing ones just as good as his.......Legend.

  • Very talented... So strange he hasnt gone solo... Brett fucked suede up not richard!

  • He is good player!!
