Basically they tried to keep the English dialogue a little on track when it came to that, it works better.
Although it barely hints that they're not actually related to her, which is why everyone's going "OMFG ISN'T SHE HIS COUSIN!!??!?!"

@sasia1834 i honestly think for once they werent trying to make the hero and heroin's story romantic, i mean hell sophia's only in 30% of the game and has little to no effect on anything so thats probooly why nothing happens between the two, though seeing how fayt litterly can get with everyone but sophia is a little funney to me
but it looks like the more popular choice is maria probably cause she was the real heroin in the 2/3 and 3/3 of the story

if by star ocean on ps3 you mean star ocean 4 international then i highly suggest youv played 1 and 2 aswell just for the heaping amounts of fanservice they throw at you in that game. all of the other star ocean games are affected and started by the things in 4
