Just got your comment about Michael Chapman. We're lucky! He's playing at The Village Pump Folk Festival 20 -22 July this year (2012) It's near Westbury Wiltshire - and a lovely setting. If you want more details check out the website. We love him and are really glad he's agreed to play.
Open G tuning: the low 6th string tuned down to D, the A string 5th down to G, D remains the same as do the G 3rd and B 2nd, and the high E 1st string drops to D. Used a lot by Joni Mitchell and lots of others in years gone by. Really easy tuning to get something out of. Perfect for late-night noodling.
@palerover Hi just saw your comment about Michael Chapman - I didnt know he was still goin !! I'm in Swindon, so just down the road. I saw he played in Chippenham - is he living locally ? Do you know if he's playin locally this year - it'd be a dream to see him live.
Saw this when first broadcast in '73. Went and bought the album and have been buying them ever since & going and seeing him when he plays near enough. Never seen him do Skellington until Dronfield 9/9/2000, when he was gracious enough to play it for by my request during the interval. A great evening can be had, go see him on tour - last time for me was Leics Musician, 16/03/2011.
I've never really checked this guy out before but I like it. It sounds a lot like Leo Kottke who I'm a bit more familiar with. If you like this, I'd check him out too.
@duseanmandik Still in secondary school :') The teacher let me off in the end though, i just couldn't get the hang of it D: So i ended up playing blackbird by the beatles :) Much easier :)
@sgvslp Forgive me if I'm saying something completely obvious, but you do know he's in open G tuning yes? With the thick E string probably tuned to G aswell...I can play portions of it, badly...but it all makes sense in open G...especially the slide parts.
I saw his on bbc 4 and was shamed that it took me 37 years to hear this for the first time and since have driven my wife up the wall by playing his music off i tunes
as others have said this dude should be more famous all guitar players should look at the way he makes it sound amazing
ive learnt this perfectly just by this video, dont mean to bost but im pretty happy with it ;) ill try and post if i know how to, aint really a youtube guy
Fabulous music made even better by the filming of every note. Love the bit when he keeps playing while searching in his pocket for that little coppery thing he attaches to his left pinky. Wonderful stuff !
Saw this on guitar heros last night, I love my rock music Led Zep, Motorhead Sabbath etc etc but this is just brilliant and as a guitar player makes you respect it even more. Just brilliant.
This is such an amazing tune; always puts a smile on my face. Reminds me of my dogs I've left behind whilst at uni. Darn I miss the stick throwing games we play...
God bless the BBC for Guitar Heroes- keeping good music alive.
Thanks for posting this.....I used to listen to Michael chapman's Millstone Grit vinyl when i was a kid...do you still have Millstone Grit album? Much appreciate if you or anybody else upload 'em on you tube...Thanks again in advanced
i just love this song, how come it took me 13 years to hear it???
thanks for uploading it, some people need to here this, and that'll show them that if you play guitar, your are NOT an emo or whatever, you DONT slit your wrists. thats a stereotype, but this... THIS IS PURE GOLD!
