  • This is true talent and then some :)

  • i love this song !

  • Open G tuning: the low 6th string tuned down to D, the A string 5th down to G, D remains the same as do the G 3rd and B 2nd, and the high E 1st string drops to D. Used a lot by Joni Mitchell and lots of others in years gone by. Really easy tuning to get something out of. Perfect for late-night noodling.

  • He's actually playing in Open G, not like the caption suggests, in Drop D.

  • I met wellington.

  • @CommonSenseBlokeiam Michael Chapman's dog?

  • @Saskatchewan00 Yes i use to take it for walk's and was a good friend of Mike and Andru.

Haven't seen him for a few years now.

  • If you like this then come and see him at Trowbridge Village Pump on Friday 15th July 2011 at 8pm.

  • @palerover Hi just saw your comment about Michael Chapman - I didnt know he was still goin !! I'm in Swindon, so just down the road. I saw he played in Chippenham - is he living locally ? Do you know if he's playin locally this year - it'd be a dream to see him live.

    Cheers, Andy

  • @SuperDN70 Yeh, Jools Holland pisses me off in so many ways XD

  • @ch3rrysunbur5t If you think a willy looks like that... :P

  • saw this on tv the other day great stuff he is still doing gig,s at 70yers old now but still good

  • Saw this when first broadcast in '73. Went and bought the album and have been buying them ever since & going and seeing him when he plays near enough. Never seen him do Skellington until Dronfield 9/9/2000, when he was gracious enough to play it for by my request during the interval. A great evening can be had, go see him on tour - last time for me was Leics Musician, 16/03/2011.

  • I watched him last night on BBC 4, only managed to get his surname, loved it and favoured the piece,

    Where are you man?

  • heard it on Late Junction two nights ago, apparently this song is dedicated to his hound

  • what's he got on his fingers that he is using to fingerpick? anybody know?

  • @omfgwep00n finger and thumb picks

  • met michael years ago at the jersey folk club, he is still as good as he ever was.

  • Jimmy page probably idolized this guy. He's real good!

  • I've never really checked this guy out before but I like it. It sounds a lot like Leo Kottke who I'm a bit more familiar with. If you like this, I'd check him out too.

  • holy crap

  • A bit good methinks!

  • I am really diggin his waist-coat.

  • I was going to "The Green" in Kinross .They phoned tonight cancelling it because of the snow.Might get another opportunity but somehow doubt it.

If you go to Michael Chapmans web site it gives you concert dates.

  • Im going to see him in a couple of weeks.I have listened to his music for 40 years and now get the chance to see him play it.

  • @caravaneriam Where are you Going to watch Him?

  • Has anyone anywhere got tabs for this?

  • Brilliant. Makes it look so easy (with a bit of special guitar tuning...)

  • I have to learn this for my music exam xD its so tricky :P

  • @sgvslp what music exam do you have to learn this for? are you at uni?

  • @duseanmandik Still in secondary school :') The teacher let me off in the end though, i just couldn't get the hang of it D: So i ended up playing blackbird by the beatles :) Much easier :)

  • @sgvslp I though all music exams in the UK have to pick from a set list of songs from the SQA?

  • @duseanmandik I have no idea to be honest :') But i couldn't play this, so in the end he just gave me blackbird to play :)

  • @sgvslp Owell, this song and blackbird are great! so good luck with the exams!

  • @duseanmandik Thank you :)

  • @sgvslp Forgive me if I'm saying something completely obvious, but you do know he's in open G tuning yes? With the thick E string probably tuned to G aswell...I can play portions of it, badly...but it all makes sense in open G...especially the slide parts.

  • @burnsybaby1987 Yes, tuning is GDGDBD. Malcolm

  • I saw his on bbc 4 and was shamed that it took me 37 years to hear this for the first time and since have driven my wife up the wall by playing his music off i tunes

as others have said this dude should be more famous all guitar players should look at the way he makes it sound amazing

  • this dude deserves to be more famous.

  • ive learnt this perfectly just by this video, dont mean to bost but im pretty happy with it ;) ill try and post if i know how to, aint really a youtube guy

  • @achemie I would boast if i were you as a guitar player myself i would never attempt anything so bold, well done

  • this is amazing material .... only saw it on the BBC last week on repeats of the old grey whistle test - more of this please - brilliant

  • I am learning the acoustic at the moment and songs like this are the reason why :)

  • Fabulous music made even better by the filming of every note. Love the bit when he keeps playing while searching in his pocket for that little coppery thing he attaches to his left pinky. Wonderful stuff !

  • Fabulous - does anyone know when it was recorded?

  • @therobbiesmith

    about 1974-5 i think.

  • Saw this on guitar heros last night, I love my rock music Led Zep, Motorhead Sabbath etc etc but this is just brilliant and as a guitar player makes you respect it even more. Just brilliant.
