  • Hey! I was watching Dale Calder. I am considering a small hoop house (Dale has one) or green house (like Kent's) in the future... Anyway, I just watched a video called "How easy is a Polytunnel to construct?" by polytunnels. At 5.24 they use a "hot spot" tape product on the bars to help prolong the life of the poly. After thinking on it, it makes sense. Heavy movement wear spot with sun assistance where poly meets roof hoops....just wondering what you think. Have a good evening. Thanks Jackie

  • @JaxRL I have seen that video. "HotSpot" is a UK product. Here in the US, Growers Supply sells a product called "Guardian Felt Tape". I bought a dozen or so rolls to cover the tops of the hoops, especially where the purlin bkts are, to prevent heat buildup and wear. Its some really sticky stuff, adheres quite well. The only drawback is they didn't give a duration of use. So it might breakdown before the 4 year poly does. Time will tell. :-)

  • Hello brother I'm fixen to build a greenhouse in the next week or so. My first question is what size pipe to use? Second is how to bend the the hoops? Third is the best way to join the pipe or EMT? Forth is what type of plastic to use and where to buy it. I love your videos please keep them coming!

    Thanks, Mike in Arkansas

  • @blackrockarkansas Lot of questions there Mike, sending you a PM.

  • Great job Dude!!!

  • @drmikeyg Thanks bro !

  • Prettiest greenhouse I have ever seen. You have my respect and admiration.

  • @vintageozarks I think its kinda cool myself. Not a bad job for a homemade design. Thank you. :-)

  • "Southern Engineerin," at it's best! Heck of a good job, Bobby! Man, it's really comin along nicely. I'm impressed, buddy...AGAIN!

You wouldn't come done for another .50 cents an hour would ya? LOL!! Might even throw in a little...pork!

Once more, looks good, my friend! Take care, and God bless!

  • @DubandDebs I dunno...I'm thinking of a contract holdout. Your offer is just a bit low ! LOL However, throw in a few pulled pork barbecue sandwiches and the deal looks interesting. Thanks friend. ;-)

  • I wouldve never believed that you built this by yourself if I didnt see for myself on video. The Lord definately blessed you with more patience than he did me, lol. Awesome job.

  • @keith19692 LOL...my patience has grown as I have gotten older. It wasn't always this way. Thank you. :-)

  • You da man, brah!!!, that was awesome if you ask me...Your a dang good Un-Proffessional that's for damn sure...Now this is the part that becomes fun, now right??? lol... Prepping for the planting??? Hee Haw...I'm proud of you too. Take care can't wait to see the updates..

  • @wmkk808 Thank you sir ! Yep...planting is underway now. Ready to roll !

  • Putting on plastic is always like herding cats... but worth it

  • @elkrivermr My wife goes outside and the cats just follow her around. Maybe I should have let her take care of the plastic..hmmm. ;-)

  • Your greenhouse looks awesome!

  • @GrowSomethingGreen Thanks !

  • Very impressive plastic work and editing work as well! I liked it when you sped it up as you were walking down the length of the greenhouse, like an old timey movie! Would love to fly my micro helicopter in there! LOL I do have one question and one request. What is that rectangle in the plastic down the side of the first GH? My request is to see how you did the wiggle wire closer around the door. I always wondered how to do right angles so the plastic wouldn't rip on edges of the u channel.

  • @mediamaker2000 My $85 camera gets the job done ! The rectangle is a piece of white plastic that I put up, thinking it might help with light reflectivity. I think its to transparent to be of much use in this way. The plastic is really tough. Just put a couple layers of duct tape on any possible sharp edges and keep going. Even if it punctures the plastic, it won't rip. You just tape over the tear.

  • @mhpgardener They make 6 mil that is black on one side and white on the other and light will not make it through. You could also use mylar as well. Ah OK, I knew there had to be a trick on those sharp edges just never saw anybody else do it before.

  • **Awesome** :)..

  • @SpikenAL No too bad for a farm boy !

  • bery good job I will buil somethink like that when i have my land

  • @TheMartinez2006 Thank you..I hope it works out for you.

  • She is looking good, Its a lot of work now but when it is done it well be all worth it, Looking forward to the next update.

  • @lifeinthailand Thx... you're right about the work. But I only have to do it once. I'll have an update sometime first of the week...I hope !

  • Merry Christmas my friend !

  • @selfreliantboy I hope Santa was good to you and brought you a big bag of seeds to plant !

  • This was really helpful to me.I am in process of putting up a 36x88 frame house and this has really came in helpful on how I will install the two layer's of plastic. What are you going to grow? What area do you live in?

  • @morgansgreenhose7371 I'll be growing some of everything. Haven't decided what to exlcude yet. I'm in southern Virginia.

  • I cannot believe you put that plastic on there all by yourself. That's a three people job. You're right, now you will never sleep again. The greenhouse really did turn out awesome. It is SO big. Great job with those two layers of plastic. You must be exhausted!

  • @chicagocindybuddie I'm trying my best to keep up. Still hoping to put some plants in there this weekend. Its turning into a full time job !

  • Amen brother!! The lord was telling me while I watched ((thats my son!)) I said yes lord he sure is hahahaha. Amen you do bring him glory brother! Great video!

  • @GospelTruth37059 LOL I think about the father/son deal a lot. I never really had a dad, so I don't know what its like to get that acceptance of a job well done. But I do have a Father in Heaven, and I know He approves of what I'm doing by the continued blessings that I'm receiving. And for that, I am very thankful. Thank you mam. :-)

  • Amazing! Can't wait to see how you lay it out inside and all of the beautiful produce you'll get.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @pybryce Thanks. I'm still undecided on the layout. I'll start in the middle with tomatoes, cukes, and beans for the vertical stuff, then work on the outsides. Gonna try to be patient and let it play out. Its gonna be interesting. ;-)

  • Well done and from My Family to Your Family a Very Merry Christmas . I also wish Yours the Very Best for the New Year. Barry and Family.

  • @AquaponicsOrgaponics Thx Barry. And a Merry Christmas to you and yours as well ! :-)

  • You did an awesome job. I found long ago that several pairs of hands can be replaced with one piece of rope. The greenhouse is amazing!

  • @imstillworkin Thank you mam. So true about the ropes...and vice grips...and cinder blocks ! Whatever it takes..just git er done ! :-)

  • A truly awesome and inspiring feat you've pulled off. The hangar looks absolutely amazing. You've given me a lot of good ideas for some plans I have in the future, once I get some land and get out of the city. Hope you get everything all done before any major weather sets in.

God bless you and the family...-David

  • @Planogardener Thx David. Hanger...hehe. I hope you can get out of the city soon. The future aint looking too good for hanging around downtown. The weather is still doing ok...a little rain here and there..but no bitter cold or snow. Its still "all systems go" for me right now.

  • You are the Man Bobby. I wish I had your resources and resourcefulness. Kudos Brother

  • @mainbearing68 Thx bro...just trying to use that space between my ears. :-)

  • Mr MhpGardener, that is just simply amazing, wow.

    Great, great job.

You and Mr WebCajun must have went to the same school.

Y'all ALWAYS do the job right.

Thank you Sir for posting all of the good information on here, in doing so you are helping

countless folk grow the very best food, (home grown).

    God Bless You.

  • @czyhrs Thanks. Yea, but I think he graduated a few years before me. ..LOL

  • great job ...

  • @pinetar100 Thank you sir !

  • There are folks who are nay sayers and then some are the Do ers , like my Dad always said , dont look at it just do it and get it done , do something ... lol ... your a Do er thats for sure Bobby , where there is a will , there is a way ... love your attitude..... Rock on....!!!

  • @bowhunter2439 Yes sir...it aint gonna get done by watching it for sure. Doing something, anything, is better than doing nothing at all. Thx bro !

  • Great looking greenhouse. You should be proud of yourself.

  • @ncautoman57 Thank you. I am. :-)

  • @AMIABRUZZO Its 6mil greenhouse poly...some good stuff. I think theres a lot of "untrained professionals" out there. ;-)

  • I like how you are able to get things figured out. Maybe a little later you can show us the detail of how you did the rod for the rolling curtain. I tried to do one last year and could never get it to work out. It was a royal pain to get those sides up every day when the weather was fluctuating between cold nights and hot days.

I am thankful that your 'light' affliction worked for you patience; for then you found the answer to the rod supports. God is good! :)))

  • @22justus2 My wheels are always turning, trying to think of ways to solve problems, or to do something better. The curtains are really easy to make. I'll show the process a bit later. Yes mam...patience, patience, patience...there is a reason for everything. :-)

  • Great job!

  • @IndianaCaver Thank you !

  • It's beautiful, I love it! I'm so proud of you! I wish you lived closed to me so I could come and share your blessings and profit off your ingenuity. My mother always said "Necessity is the mother of invention" and you just proved that. Where there's a will, there's a way is my motto because I have to jury rig so many things to make them work when I'm gardening and I love learning what others have done in my same situation. Can't wait to see how you finish this. Exciting.

  • @prettyroads Thank you mam. Sometimes you just have to make the most of what you have...get creative. Its surprising what you can come up with. Its coming along nicely. The curtains are installed and sealed for the winter, and the west end is covered. Working on the water / electric now. Got lots to do ! ;-)

  • So, not content with doing the work of four men you decide to use one hand to hold a camera... wow, I am impressed, very impressed! You can rightly be very proud of that job because you deserve to be. I was all pleased with myself installing a new sheet of glass in the roof of my greenhouse today but you have me beaten hands down. Great job.

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • @baconsoda Hmmm, was I showing off? LOL... Look ma, one hand ! Thanks Brendan, and Merry Christmas chum !

  • mymymy brother-you work really fast---must be that magic camera--i like that roll up curtain-i need to put that to work on my creation--can you do a video showing how you fastened the plastic to the roll up pipe-i was going to attach a cable and run it to a hand winch like a chicken house rigging--i seen the greenhouse kits had a crank system but did not see a video of one in service---i really like that---i am looking to get some wiggle wire for my next attempt--that brace looks great-peace

  • @GreenhouseSalvation Yes sir...its all trick photography ! I recorded a segment on the curtains and how I made my own. I may post it separately, or just wait till I edit the whole constructuon process. Either way, I'll show it. Thank you James....and Merry Christmas my friend. :-)

  • I am so happy for you !

  • @Teddybearcop48 Thank you sir !

  • Nice days work Bobby for one man.....ya boy

  • @StatenIslandSlim LOL....I slept good that night !

  • The braces and supports are wonderful! It took me two hours to put the netting on my cover, and yesterday it took about ten minutes to remove it, because it's a lot lower now. It will be fun to rebuild it though : )

  • @Helioforge Thx Pete. Yea, that snow played havoc with your strawberry cover..time for plan B !

  • I really like your method of adding the extra bracing. We get a lot of high winds here, I'll have to remember that when I build my (itty bitty) greenhouse (hopefully) next year. :)

  • @Learning2homestead I wanted to make the frame as stiff as possible. Diagonal braces made a big difference. This one is "itty bitty" compared to some I have seen. But it oughta keep me busy. :-)

  • @mhpgardener EEK!!! If your GH is "itty bitty" then I guess mine will be "teeny weeny".... I'm planning on about 12' x 20' ish to start....

  • That's really amazing! You were so creative getting all of that done! It was cool to see how it all just came together!

    and AMENNN!! :-)

  • @gardenvespers777 Thank you. You gotta think outside the box sometimes...I do it a lot ! ;-)

  • the bug is spreading! a bunch of people watching this project, and it is looking good...gonna be a lot of wasted plastic when folks like me try this..good job dude!! looks great!!

  • @1952Jeep I hope folks don't get the flu. :-) If you don't have any wasted material or cost overruns, then you did something wrong ! I always do, partly cuz I change plans so many times, after I have already started.Thank you sir !

  • awesome and fantastic work kitty kitty (hehehehe) !!!!!

  • @Hard2HandleRandall Thx friend.

  • Love the roll up sides idea. Awesome work, thanks for the sharing Bobby.

  • @chapman2212 Roll up sides should help with the summer heat. That and some shade cloth. Thank you much. ;-)

  • Nice job I had a heck of a time putting mine on last spring and it isnt near as big a greenhouse as yours. You should be proud Great video.

  • @KSPrepper1 Thanks....I'm like a proud papa ! ;-)

  • If I was any ware close to your place I would be there to help you out. You did a great job working it out.

  • @Unclebobs2 Thank you sir. Maybe you'll take a wrong turn some day and end up out here, LOL

  • @mhpgardener

I miss the east, keep thinking about moving that way, maybe some day.

I've learned a lot about green houses from you, thanks a bunch, I need one out here.

I have a average of 83 days between frosts up here, lord willing ill start a green house in the spring. Thanks again for all your hard work.

  • Awesome Bobby! I am very impressed on how far that greenhouse has come and the work that you have done on it. I would love to have something like that to grow my vegetables in.

Also, double wall plastic is the way to go. I was sold on that the first time I used it, over 10 years ago.

  • @TheOntarioGardener Thx Jake. I told you..switch the riding arena over to a GH...problem solved ! I'm with ya 100%...double poly rules !

  • looking real good my friend. You must have a lot of country boy in you to get it all done by yourself like that. After you get it done you can eat your baloney sandwich sitting in a nice warm greenhouse, enjoying life, lol. Have a very Merry Christmas.

  • @devartt1 Thanks. Oh yea.... country all the way. And you know the deal.. A country boy can (and will) survive ! Hmmm, I might put me a small fridge in there so I can have my Dukes mayo and some bologna close by. Merry Christmas to you too !

  • "Here kitty kitty!" haha This is a true Do It "YOURSELF" video and that greenhouse looks MORE than professional. All of the commercial greenhouses I see here in AZ have staples and cinder blocks holding the plastic down. Great job and hope you have a Merry Christmas! May Santa Clause bring you lot's of red and green gifts next year!

  • @ZachAttacksPHX Its a DIY if there ever was one ! It does look pretty good....not bad at all. I had plenty of red and green for lunch..tomatoes, cukes, and peppers :-) And a very Merry Christmas to you too !

  • You are such a clever fella! You are gonna be the envy of every gardener out there.

  • @TheCajuntransplant Where there's a will, there's a way. Sometime you gotta get creative ! :-)

  • Great job. Terrific!

  • Excellent idea with you braces. I couldn't help but to laugh when the wind picked up.. Got to love the wind mixed with plastic. LOL Excellent video Bro!!

  • @1TruPatriot I kinda liked that too. After I put the first one up, I knew I was on to something. Laughing ? Come on man ! Wind is to plastic as drinking is to driving...they don't mix very well ! Thanks !

  • Very nice, and i can tell youll be very busy from now on.its always great to your vids.Very nice greenhouse

  • @RICHROOFER1 Busy? You mean like no time to sleep ? LOL...yep, thats me ! Thx.

  • Some extra hands would have come in handy. Outstanding job.....Donald

  • @webcajun Yes sir, especially trying to stretch the plastic and get the wire put in. That was a job. Thanks Donald.

  • that is an incredible job, giving me the bug!

  • @1952Jeep Thx...bug? I do believe its contagious ! LOL

  • Looks good!

  • @rileyphillip Thx friend !

  • What a superb job you have made of it. Looking forward to seeing it full of plants! Shows just what you can do with a bit of Faith.

  • @pamsallotment Thx Pam. My seedling-transplants are coming along nicely. They are almost ready to plant. I gotta hurry up ! Yes mam...a little faith goes a long ways. :-)

  • WOW!! Now that is just fantastic. Congratulations on an incredible structure.

  • @bvbjb Thx. Its pretty sturdy, should last for a very long time...hope so anyways. ;-)

  • Looks great! Congrats : )

  • @RTPgardenguy Thank you sir.

  • WOW! I am so impressed. Great job!

  • @road2health Me too ! I surprise myself sometimes. Thanks !

  • That's excellent Bobby. Nice work!

  • @SleestaksRule Not too bad...Thank you !

  • this looked all to familiar, 10 years ago we put up our hoop house I used it 6 yrs then upgraded I wish I would of save that hoop house now.. never enough room! real nice Bobby as always.. lots of blood , sweat and tears.. take care! Diane

  • @dianemummvideos Yes mam..plenty of blood sweat and tears. This was in the works since late spring, been thinking about it for a long time. And you're right..never ever enough room. I'll fill this up quickly !

  • You are Da Man !!

    Looks great !

    I only have one problem...

... "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's greenhouse" is kinda ringing in my ears.

  • @texasprepper2 Thx friend. Covet you say? Kinda like me and the orange tractor you have...hmmm LOL

  • Holy Moly looking just AWESOME !!!

  • @MrJohnhunt1 Hehe...thanks !

  • JOHN 15: 12-13 HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING A ONE MAN BAND. I BET YOU WOULD BE GOOD AT IT. TALK ABOUT GIT-R-DONE BY YOUR SELF.GREAT JOB MY FRIEND. I'M IMPRESSED.

  • @contreeman LOL...a band? I couldn't play an instrument if my life depended on it ! I've always worked, never had the time or the $ for playing music. Always wanted to play guitar though. Thank you !

  • This is just Great! Glad you got it done. It really looks like a pro job no matter what you say.

  • @loislaney23 I am too Lois....the cold weather is coming and I wasn't gonna get many more good days. Its looks better now with the end on and the curtains sealed up...looks very nice. :-)

  • THrough him all things are possible! Amen to That!

  • @Backyardhomesteader Yes sir !

  • So Bobby; Is there a book you would recommend on building a backyard greenhouse. Can't wait to see your stove set up inside and how you mechanically adjust the heat. Blessings; gina

  • @farmgirlginaB Hey Gina, I don't know of a book, other than looking at a GH supplier catalog like Growers Supply/Farmtek. I just watched a LOT of videos, and talked with anybody that I thought might could help me. Farmtek has a lot of good videos on here. I covered the stove info last week I think, with the new grate. Its a cool setup for sure. Just gimme a holler if I can help you. :-)

  • For being highly untrained you have done a mighty fine job on that greenhouse. I am trying not to covet lol Excellent job MHP !!

  • @NWOIS666 Not bad for an 'ol country boy huh? Thx friend.

  • Love it love it love it

  • @itsjustdeb579 Me too me too me too ! ! ! ;-)

  • Such a great job. Inspirational for sure! Thanks for sharing.

  • @bowlmeoverva Yes sir..thank you very much !

  • !!!!! the rolling up of the sides is genius !!!!!

  • @catfish222banjo I didn't have them on the first one, cuz I didn't know anything about them. I did my homework this time. :-)

  • Great job it looks very good! Do you have anything planed for a irrigation system?

  • @REDFTW Thank you. Yes... a lot of ideas. Drip, soaker hoses, manual..I gotta see what the layout of the plants is gonna be. And I'd like to do some type of gutter to catch rainwater, but the only place I can put the gutters is at ground level...which means I'd have to bury the storage containers then pump out of them. Not crazy about that idea.

  • How much on average does the plastic cost?

  • @TheClownCentral Depending on where you get it and how much....anywhere from .11 to .15 / sq ft. Shipping costs are pretty high too.

  • "I am a highly untrained Professional, so don't you try this at home!", Tell Bo Dean that has to be the New Classic! Great Job Bro.

  • @KingRyltar Yea..it was bowhunter2439...he was cooking something and said that. I thought it was kinda neat. Thx.

  • Living the dream! You're amazing. Can't wait to see all the crazy starts you'll have for planting out next summer. I imagine you could easily recoup all your construction costs the first summer with a stand out by the highway. Be careful or you'll put your local grocers out of business!

  • @rubbernecker13 Haha..thx. My neighbor says he'd be happy to sell all the produce. I told him sure, I'd even pay him for his time, .50/hr ! LOL

  • LOL sleep is over rated great job one huge under taking for 1 person and filming it at the same time

youll get to your goal by Christmas

i like the side curtains that will work great in the summer bigger greenhouses get so hot and with both sides open youll grow some big tomato plants year round

  • @MajorRager76 Yea.. I agree on the sleep deal...plenty of time for sleep later on. I wanna be able to roll the sides up, but I'm gonna have to do some type of screen to keep the bugs out. Have you priced screen material lately?....geez

  • @mhpgardener for a good screen on the hanger id say ball-parking it $500 for the normal cut of the mill fiberglass screen up to $1100 for something that will last 5+years

  • Jealousy has set in, I can only imagine what great things will come from that house, can't wait to get one myself, until then I'll just keep on watching and learning from you. Thanks for the great videos.

  • @blingsthing LOL... you're ahead of me cuz I still can't quite imagine what I'm gonna do with all the space. Tomatos, cukes, squash and zuke, beans, corn ,melons, peppers.... OK, I think I got it full already ! You're welcome and thx for the support. :-)

  • i will see you in heaven in heaven :D I love u man

  • @oogp Count on it brother. :-)

  • I am impressed with your curtain rolling up and down was that your invention? It works really slick. Everything looks so good. It looks like a long ways down to the other end when your up top pulling on that rope. The whole deal is very impressive. Wow. I am proud of your green house it looks stellar.

  • @shartne No sir...its pretty common on the larger houses. I used the parts from the used frame I had to make the first curtain, and one more on that side. I had to buy new parts and make homemade curtains for the other side...they turned out just as well. I might need a golf cart to ride around inside...LOL Thanks.

  • I admire your determination and ingenuity.

  • @johnatncsu Thank you kindly !

  • Great Job Bobby.....you should be proud! Very Impressive !

  • @sthier24 Thx. believe me..I am !

  • Looking good. Wish I lived close enough to swing by and lend a hand.

  • @03DexterHauler Thank you sir. So do I ! LOL

  • Yea boy, I thought that greenhouse was gonna take off.

  • @mrbluto3 Hehehe.....I had to keep it interesting. :-)

  • Excellent Job!

  • @irishiweredrunk22 Thank you sir. Kinda like that hydro setup that you have. :-)

  • Very nice Bobby that my friend was a job well done, I like your saying about being an untrained professional I may have to borrow that. Thanks for sharing.

  • @rchopp Thank you sir. That was bowhunter2439 that taught me about being untrained. He tries to cook once in awhile. Thx for the support.

  • Your inspirational Bobby! I love your determination! I got my seeds in the mail you sent me! What a blessing! Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  • @farmgirlginaB Thanks Gina. Where there's a will, there's a way ! I hope the seeds do well for you. You're welcome and Merry Christmas.

  • wow! that is amazing looking! I saw that piece start to lift and i'm like, oh no! its going to fly away! and then i see you come runnin with that rope to save the say. siply amazing.... all i can say is that you do nice work.

  • @MIgardener Thx Luke. Kinda like that deal.."here I come to save the day!" I just do the best I can with what I have to work with. ;-)

  • Oh Bobby, I was holding my breath with the wind too, MM was about to have his own lack of oxygen too....You done just a great job...It is amazing what you can do when you set your mind to and and with alot of the Good Lords help...Now to get 'er growing.....Your Sir are on of the Best Unprofessional's I have ever seen...We knew you would do it..../;-) God Bless yall.....
