  • I swear I'm going to learning how to do this.

  • can we get this in chineese

  • I am the very model of an Anti-Hero Archetype,

My condescending manner's guaranteed to make the heroes gripe,

I hang out in a dungeon that a nicer guy would wither in,

It doesn't bother me at all because I am a Slytherin.

I always dress in black with a theatrical and stylish flair,

It makes up for the fact that I don't brush my teeth or wash my hair.

I work with smelly potions in an underground laboratory

And have a gift for sarcasm and other snarky oratory.

  • @SnapesFangirl The model of an archetype is redundant :( The 'gripe' rhyme didn't fit anyways, now you have linguistic cause to change it :)

  • is there a faster version!!?

  • I had to do this as a solo in school, in 8th grade. -.- so difficult.

  • Did anybody else get here because of The Rant Song from Scrubs? This is such a cool song!

  • This is more Hip-Hop than Waka Flocka Lame!

  • I felt like screaming out of annoyance in the middle of the song

  • Very hot chorus.

  • thanks trying out for irates of penzance at school

  • Gilbert and Sullivan's greatest accomplishment:

Unknowingly inventing the world's first rap song.

  • I did a play and I sung this :D I nearly passed out on stage bwahaha

  • ahhhhhh i have to memorize this by tmr invitations to my funeral will be sent out as soon as they can scrape my exploded head off the floor and make my corps stop twitching...

  • Dear god. How many times did he have to go over this before he could sing it through without stumbling (or flat out laughing at himself)?

  • so fucking fast!

  • we had to sing this in Performing arts D: i died that day.

  • GEICO

  • i absolutely LOVE this show! it is amazing and so hilarious!!

  • Ah, I can't sing the words that fast, only the begging. I can sort of sing this I saw him sing this it seams harder then it is. ;)

  • Rode a horse

  • I'd like to see Eminem or Lupe Fiasco try that!

  • @anonymous1234269

We had to do this in our English class, most us were actually able to do this at the same speed as this guy. So I don't think it is that hard once you know this by heart, or you have a paper with the lines in front of you, so you can expect the next line, unlike here.

  • re: Megabyte: Actually, General Caractacus didn't even wear a loincloth. He and his men wore a blue dye, called "wode." And that was it--just wode. Scared off the invaders since they thought they were aliens--as in other-worldly beings. No kidding: look it up.

  • the real scientist salarien

  • I am the very model of a Kinsian economist.

  • too bad he doesn't talk about economic theory. Our men in power seem as useless there today as this over-educated asshole did in military strategy then.

  • Yeessss I learnt it by heart!

  • Why do you call this an AMV though? I see no Anime and I wouldn't call it a Music Video either.

  • @mith59 AMV actually just stands for "Animated Music Video". If you take a Digital Media class, you'll learn that "animation" really refers to any movement within a video, be it via pictures, text, or graphics. And... what makes this a music video is the fact that it focuses on the music. Thus, with these captions taking each other's places, and the song being recorded, this video IS an AMV.

  • @Libertarian001 Sorry, every reference I have seen to AMV (that isn't a file format) is Anime Music Video so popular culture disagrees with your Digital Media Class. I still wouldn't call this animated since the words never move (no, a jump cut isn't movement it's a slide show).

  • @mith59 Yeah... that's pop culture's definition, not the actual definition according to textbooks. As for movement, look at the first few seconds. See how the text moves? That's animation. So I suppose that would technically make it an Animated Music Video, but... meh.

  • Can we get a big shout-out for the xylophonist? I know I sure as hell will never be able to do that...

  • @jpheitman To the xylophonist:

    SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALUUUUUTE!!!!!!!!!

  • @jpheitman I'm terribly jealous - it sounds like it would be fun to play once you had it down.

  • used to have to sing this in my theater class, good times =]

  • 1:38

    "Galactus' uniform"

  • Comment removed

  • If this was truly how soldiers were judged appropriate to be Major-Generals we would have exactly zero.

  • I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite play on the Citadel.

  • This is The Llama Song before The Llama Song.

  • This sound like Gill from Frasier to anyone else?

  • 12 people are the very model of a modern lieutenant general.

  • The bar across the street from me has a karaoke night. They have this song. I fear I may one day get drunk enough to attempt it.

  • this isnt an AMV.. but its still good!

  • eat it beiber

  • can and have done it proffesh

  • It is my new life's goal to learn this by 2012.

  • Brilliant. Just amazingly splendid.

  • i sing this is school 5th grade rocks!

  • I'm leaving on a 17 hour plane ride tomorrow, guess what song I'm gonna learn!?

  • There's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium, and hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium...

  • @scoobyrds ...And nickel, neodynium, neptunium, germanium, iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium.

  • mass effect 2 educating kids on comedic opera, one salarian at a time

  • lol also here caus of wheezy waiter :D

  • Wheezy Waiter FTW

  • heres a llama theres a llama and another little llama

  • me too... coz of wheezy waiter

  • Im here cos of wheezy waiter ;)

  • I hear nothing but the Llama song when I hear this.......

  • If some of the jokes may have gone over your head

    1) The basic premise of the song is that he's a well-educated man, but entirely inept in military matters. He SUCKS at his job.

    2) A fugue has more than one vocal part. He can't hum it. No one can.

    3) "That infernal nonsense Pinafore" was another play by G&S. It offended the royal family, so this play ends with the pirates surrendering completely out of the blue at the mention of the Queen.

    4) Caractacus wore nothing but a loincloth.

  • @megabyter5 Very informative :)

  • @megabyter5 Oh, I picked up the first bit the very first time I became acquainted with the song. Really, "When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery"? "I know a smattering of elemental strategy"? I guess, even the title sort of gives that away, since if he were really a good general he would be much less likely to brag in this context.

  • @megabyter5 Thank you so much for explaining these jokes that went just WAY over my head. It's amazing what you can learn from someone who copied and pasted from Wikipedia.

  • Comment removed

  • One of the other jokes that some people might not be aware of is that "the croaking chorus from The Frogs of Aristophanes" is just the sound of frogs croaking (basically "Ribbit, Ribbit" in Greek)

  • @megabyter5

I feel very intelligent now that I got all them jokes without being told :D

  • lol im learning it 4 my skl play :/ HELP!

  • @yhyhyhyhyhyhyhful how long do u have to blab

  • Who else noticed that he ran out of breath right when he reached the word "horse" @ 3:40

  • Title of video is a joke,. There is no way to sing along to this.

  • Anyone else think of "The Elements" by "Tom Lehrer" when they hear this? Because "The Elements" is set to this tune.

  • Personally I don't think anyone could sing along to that !!

But since I have this video I'll give it a go !

  • I am the very model of a modern musicologist

I analyze Beethoven, Amadeus, Brahms, Bizet, and Lizst

I write Romantic ballads and Contemporary symphonies

While trying to make motion in each part of all the harmonies.

In case I suffer writer's block, I tell myself this little gist:

I am the very model of a modern musicologist.

  • This explains Kamina in some way after all "He is the very model of a Major-General"

  • 12 people can't tell at sight a mauser rifle from a javelin.

  • can u send this song to me please

  • You typo'd General =(

    0:09

  • This is worse than the campfire song

  • Can you sing it faster???

  • LMAO! The words are right there and i STILL cant sing along!

  • When this was written it was a brilliant satire of English military officers at the time. They to know everything about everything with the exception of anything regarding military tactics.

  • @KrazyKommieKiller Now, it's a brilliant satire of American military officers.....

  • @williamskidfears I think most American generals would know military strategy pretty well. Not sure if any of them could hum a fugue though...

  • this is sooo addicting...it took me forever to learn a little of the words...now i have to fit the notes in there somehow...gotta love theater!

  • theres a version of this where he is cruising the hood in his lowrider

    poppin the 3 wheel motion.

  • for speech class we are learning this song

  • Damn, and I have trouble saying just "In short and matters vegetable animal and mineral." I feel bad. :P

  • @meanmrmusic28: You could always try and be a Brigadier-General instead. Not as classy, but I hear they have kicking parties. :-)

  • hahaha i know all the words and how to say them right and corretly. my school did this play a few years ago and i was a (girl) pirate and we sang in the backround. ahh those were fun times.

  • so fast >_< how can i sing this song in the U.N night?

  • I can't listen to this without thinking of the Element Song, even though it came later... :)

  • I can't liston to this without thinking of Mordin singing....

  • i have so much respect for the guy who sang this

    and got it right

    and sang it clearly

    and pronounced it all right

    and sang it full speed

    and hardly took any breaths

    and sounded happy!

  • I like it better when mordin souls sings this song

  • @Slurpy98 u meen solus

  • Jay-z couldn't write shit this good

  • I am the very model of a modern psychoanalyst,

I'm learned in ways of which obsess we every little orifice

I studied under Sigmund Freud and learned of how humanity

Does cope with anger, stress, despair and homo-sexuality

I'm Master of all Psychosis, an diagnosis artist

I am the very model of a modern psychoanalyst!

  • I used to have these lyrics memorized (thanks to a hilarious karaoke version I found at my library), but now all I can think of is "There's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium, and hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium..."

Damn you, Tom Lehrer! *shakes fist at the sky*

  • @clyhiz thats where it was! i was trying to think of the other song i heard this tune in, thanks lol.

  • I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species: Turian, Asari and Batarian;

    I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology);

  • @Crimpyiff Lol Sheldon

  • @Crimpyiff I like you.

  • @HitodamaKyrie

*Dr. Zoidberg voice* Hooray, somebody likes me!

Yes, I realize Zoidberg probably never said that =P But he probably said something to that effect... Or rather, something to that...

    *puts on sunglasses*

    ...Mass Effect.

    YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

  • @Crimpyiff i hate you and love you for that

  • @Milhail

I get that a lot. Well, mostly just the "hate" part >_>

  • @Crimpyiff well, Mass Effect is one of my favorite games, and while 2 wasnt that great, it was still awesome

and now, everytime i see our salarian crew mate, i hear that in his voice....

  • @Crimpyiff

    Mass Effect 1 or 2?

  • @stonebridge999

2; Mordin sings it when discussing the Collectors.

  • @Crimpyiff

Holy crap, +91 Likes? Go me =P

  • @Shanelly54

Haha, don't thank me, thank the brilliant creators of Mass Effect 2 XD

  • @Crimpyiff Wow.

  • @Crimpyiff This may be a year old but you certainly did well with it

  • @TravisCG

Tell me about it =P Every now and then I get some random mail from YouTube, "X has replied to your comment on blah blah blah" and I'll be like, "Eh, I don't remem- oh, right, THAT" =P

I don't regret it, but it's not a little bit exasperating (though also amusing), lol.

  • I luv it when Marcus sings this song on Babylon5!!!!!!!!

  • @deepblue1994 agreed. I'm actually in the middle of a B5 marathon (never seen it before, my new favorite show) currently in season 4 Sherridan's war.

  • @deepblue1994

    Yeah he sings superb...

  • does anyone know how to play this on piano? (im rly board and like to play the keyboard/piano)

  • This is awesome! This should help me learn the song once and for all.

  • It would be great to have a go at singing this on karaoke night!

  • Thank You

Finally something concrete and professional uploaded. ,,,with the sing-a-long.included.

.I should have this mastered by 2021

    Ha! Ha!

  • @HUTINAK You're lucky - I have a month.

  • pahahhaha

  • I play piano, some guitar, and bang my drums and timpani. I wrote some songs, and sang along, a veritable symphony! And still I practice every day which keeps me high in harmony. But even so, there's little dough that failed to make it's way to me. Although it's often said that music makes the world turn, (as they say). It cheers me up, and that's enough, and so, I let the music play. I studied hard, (not Juilliard!) But that was only yesterday, I'm just an educated guy, a graduate from Tenafly.

  • @drmidi2007 Everyone plays guitar.

  • HEY!!! My school is doing it too!!!! And i already got the part for Major General. Oh Yeah!!!

  • My school is doing Pirates Of Penzance for our school musical. If i chould learn to sing this, i would surly get in, auditions are on the fifteenth.

  • Okay wow. Kudos to everyone who just sang The Elements. Crowning moment of awesome.

  • i liked the song since the moment i saw it on frasier. so dont get me wrong since i must say thats im amazed that they already could make such annoying adhdish music at that time of the century :P

  • Comment removed

  • No frickin way.

  • Thank you for making this!

I want to practise the song for Thespians and it's much easier to do so with the words right in front of me instead of constantly going back and forth with a sheet of lyrics.

  • can the words be a LITTLE bigger? XD

  • Comment removed
