This is just an INCREDIBLE atmosphere! I so wish the NHL arenas (other than the Molson Centre) got into this kind of love for the home team and the game.
why did they slide down the ice with their sticks between their legs? Obviously to thank the fans, but what is the significance of that? I wish ALL the NHL arenas were like that...My theory is, if your team wins your voice better be lost when you get home! Lately it seems like I am the only on doing that...
tycopley32..i see that your ice hockey expert, Slovakia is World Champion from 2002, when did USA last time win World Championship....oh my god, in 1960...what a shame, and NHL...why the best players are from Czech repulic, Sweden, Finland and Slovakia...ups. Canada has very good players, but USA just good fighters...
I lived in Germany for 8 years, and Canada for 6 years. Not once did I mention anything about European players being worse than USA players. European's are far more superior than 99% of USA born players... I much prefer to watch European hockey than anything else.
Matter of fact, I would take ANY european forward and a few Euro d-man (lindstrom, chara, etc) over the USA's best Defenceman/goalie (Chelios at age 45-ish/Ryan Miller?!?) on a one-on-one situation.
Just look at who has been in the headlines and leaders of the NHL lately. Gaborik with 5 goals for the first time in 11 years in the NHL, Kovalchuk on pace for 60+ goals, Zetterburg,Datsyuk,Lundqvist, Kiprusoff, Nabokov (from Soviet Union) Heatley (born in Germany) or any Russian sniper (Ovechkin, Malkin), etc...
Not sure what country your from but as a hockey fan, I know that European players have been dominating the NHL and taking it by storm...

My question is still un-answered. Maybe jakubKO777 will know. Is there a particular reason why they are skating down the ice with their sticks between their legs? Is it like a tradition of that particualr team.
it means nothing special, btw for my previous reply, it should be reaction to kunkee, not to you, my fault.
i am from Slovakia and Slovak players in NHL are for example Hossa, Gaborik, Chara, Demitra, Satan and so on..., our national team is not so strong like Canada, Sweden or Czech Republic, but in my opinion we are similar level than Finland/USA(world champion ship team, not NHL dream team).
By the way aren't the World Championships going on now in Czech Republic and possibly Slovakia? Or is it just under 20 year old teams playing? Is the USA NTDP (or u-18's) playing over there? I am a huge Thrashers fan and Hossa pick pocketed a guy last night to win 9 seconds into overtime...He roofed it from like a meter or so out...totally caught the goalie off guard...it was phenominal...
WC under 20 will start from dec.26 in Czech Repulic. World Championship will be this year in Canada (Quebec/Halifax.)If NHL will stop for this, it would be great championship...
The Slovak fans are the best and MHC Martin too..!!:))

If slovakia has so good fans and so much viewers in normal games, why can't they play icehockey?
That's just insane...
kunkee 4 years ago
Your insane.
Typical reply from a user from Finland.
Slovaks are financially weaker then Finland, we are a smaller country. Maybe that is why we are a bit worse the you guys.
Hossa, Budaj, Gaborik, Demitra, Nagy, Chara, Meszaros and so on....."can't they play icehockey"?

That riding the stick thing. If done in N. America would result in some serious payback...what a difference an ocean makes.
