@bandguy360 I rode my whole life in the snow with bikes just as heavy, and with half worn tires, that being said I never really had fun doing it till I started using studded tires
i have a few mor questions i just got a yz100 big bike and pretty powerfull two for 100ccs do they have a cut off or will they rev the piston threw the head and also shifting do you recomend clutching for every shift
@dirtrider6 Is it very hard to drive without spikes? I'm hoping to do a bit of driving in the snow this year but I think the cops would go mad if I drove around with spikes.
@fionnoc You can get what we called frozen ground tires, we would stud our own, but you can buy them, they are car studs put into the tire, and only the carbide tip sticks out just like a studded winter car tire, they are good in the woods up to 2-3 inches of snow or frozen ground.
@happycritic123 if he lives in a snowy area the last thing he wants is a bike that demands attention and slow starts where he has to warm it up in this climate. also he wants smooth power delivery on this terrain.
I have an xt125x yamaha with road tyres will be riding on the icy roads, stick to low profile tyres or get studded? long way on proper roads - few hills and a lot off ofr oad parts or just get a car for the winter? XD
this is my first year riding my cr125 in the snow im getting pretty good with the dritfting i notice you have to keep the front end straight and burp the trottle to drift also im useing a bald back tire
We just had 2 four wheelers and me and my friend shawn to turns riding on my two stroke and my four stroke. Riding in the snow and mud is quite challenging, but it is so fun!!!!!
I did for years, but once I tried studded tires there is no comparison, you can actually ride the trails and have fun with them, non studded you just struggle and get stuck all day.
never done it at all i just got my bike maybe 2 or 3 months ago. And i live in maryland not much snow but i need someones opinon on it cuz when it does snow i wanna try it and i need some tips
I have one of those miniature tripods, around 4" high, I just put it on top of a stump, checked the angle, then edited out all the non action as I was getting into position to ride towards the camera.
It takes a "special" mentallity to do it, it can be fun, but you need the right bunch of die hard riders, we rode all day today, only about inch of snow, but the ground was frozen, and it was freezing out, and no one had studs on yet!
It's all about throttle control, and trying to be smooth.
I ride a KTM 300, so I was also able to adjust my power valve in to make it more tractable and less screaming, really helped a lot, and my rear tire is shot!
o really well what else do i need to put in my bike to ride during the winter so i dont blow spark plugs? where abouts do you live like... what state?
What do you mean by blown plugs, you cant be talking about fouling them.
The Winter air is colder and denser, that means your bike is getting a lot more air per fuel mixture, which means you must increase your main and pilot jets. In the 4 strokes I believe you also have a leak jet, increasing that will also make it easier to start.
I also cut a thin piece of plastic and put that in the airbox to help keep out fine powder snow, add heated grips easy to do.
ha yeah i didnt mean to blow plugs like that but yeah i was just wondering from someone how to make my bike so i can ride it in the winter i live in southern new hampshire so we close by
I know what you mean, we invite people to ride and tell them bark busters are a must, they show up without them, and they have a miserable day, hey there's a reason why the trees have the bark knocked off them!
it dont cost that much to stud your tires any dirtbike shop can order in studs for you. all you need is a drill i studded my front and back tire in liek 2 hours its really easy work jsut takes a long time cause soo many studs and it cost me 40 bucks fro a box of 1000 studs
I think he is talking about the V cut screw studs, i used to ride my kx 125 on the ice with em. work real good as long as there is no snow on the ice.
looks like fun. It dose not snow here in west Texas. but its cool cuzz we run GP's all year. O and to all the haters.... you are just mad cuzz u prolly dont have the money to ride. and if you do have then money then you are just too big of pussys.... if you ride then you cool with me

No, I rode for years without them, but it wasn't fun.
If you really want to be able to ride the trails in deep snow and have fun, you cant beat them.
For frozen ground and up to 2 inches of snow we studded our own tires using car tire studs, and a stud gun, they work great.

how much would it cost to get it studed at my local dealer?
chilloween1 4 years ago 2
No idea, you would be better off finding a Autamotive tire dealer who still studs tires and ask him if he can do it.
Keep in mind you'll still have to drill the holes, and that is determined by the depth of the stud.
Also WER products now has a screw in stud, no gun needed, you can do them yourself.
Good luck
dirtrider6 4 years ago
where could i get studs for a kx100 and where is this i live in p.a?
chilloween1 4 years ago
If your going to stud your own, it's a LOT more involved than that, Stud Gun- $400-$700
Studs -Cheapest $45.00 per thousand, Air Compressor, all holes drilled, and a lot of time
