  • Is there any way I can find the sheet music for this?

  • The dislike bar must be a ninja! we know its there but we dont know where!!!!!

  • Almost forgot: Ralph McDonald - Percussion, Phil Kraus - Parade Drum.

  • Maynard Ferguson - Trumpet/Writer, Bob James - Keyboards, Eric Gale - Guitar, Gary King - Bass, Mark Colby - Sax, Harvey Mason - Drums, MF Horns - Backing, CTI Orchestra - Strings, Jay Chattaway - Arranger/Producer/Writer. Number two of three baddass 70's trilogy albums (see Primal Scream & New Vintage). All three arranged and produced by Jay Chattaway.

  • Might anybody be as kind as to tell me what key this is in?

  • @AlexSchmidt1992 1st theme is in d minor (or e minor for trumpet). 2nd theme is in g minor (a minor for trumpet).

  • to the one person who disliked this: please feel free to get new ears. the ones you have must be defective.

    sincerely, everybody else

  • Maynard = god

  • Hope you found all of those high notes up in heaven Maynard.

  • Any trumpet player can hit high notes but only talented trumpet players can hit high notes and make them sound good and he was well above good

  • After I heard his music I was never the same trumpet player, he is a huge inspiration to me.

  • 2:55 HELL YEAH!!!

  • I'd love to see what he would have done to a euphonium. I imagine it catching fire and splitting down the bell, yet somehow still working perfectly.

  • @Glitch5222 Personally, I envision a stream of golden fire bursting forth from the bell and jewel-encrusted obsidian eighth notes flying out of the fire.

Come to think of it, that's usually what happens when I play the euphonium, minus the jewels.

  • 2 words AAAAAAAAAAA Mazing

  • this man has changed the way i play trumpet. forever. <3

  • live this was awesome. recorded . still awesome.

  • very nice... very nice. one of my favorite things ive heard him play.

  • Is this the original version of Conquistador or did someone else do it first?

  • Move over, Gabriel. Somebody else has got first chair.

  • Um, his wonderful LIFE, my bad

  • Thanks for posting this, amazing song, and he is a very big inspiration for other trumpet players like me, Rest In Peace Mr. Ferguson

Thank you God for his wonderful, We Love You Mr. Ferguson!!!

  • i got to see maynard in san antonio at southwest h.s. i could not believe the energy you felt when he played. i count myself lucky and blessed to see hiim live.

  • @sevenmothers think about all the young horn players that he motivated and nutured...there's the lead with 'Tower of Power' who's amazing

  • Wwwwwoooooowwwwww!

  • Imagine the power one felt when standing in a crowd when the phrase-ending flourish at 2:55 came sweeping through.

  • I always related to Ferguson, maybe the one real virtuoso of the Jazz trumpet...

  • I love Spanish/Mexican trumpet music. Especially the riffs that are in pieces like Malaguena and la fiesta. I just wish I knew where to look for songs like this. I also love authentic Cuban music a lot. If anybody has any suggestions of pieces to play, then I would be forever in your debt.

  • man i raped the replay button! amazing song

  • stunning

  • I love this song. and Maynard!

  • @ozzyvanhalenrox me to

  • @ozzyvanhalenrox me to v

    .

  • Anyone can convert this video to mp3 and download at soundnabber..com

  • Notice how nobody dislikes this video! >:D Yeah!

  • You know, this might just be Maynard's best song, from the 70s at least. Did he write this?

  • @Baritone45 Conquistador is an old, famous song. Maynard decided to take that song and pimp duh shit outta it. =P So in technical terms, he "arranged" this variation of that old, amazing song. xP

  • @Codeafo1 Thanks for the info, Code. That figures, as that is the model of, I think, every other song he arranged and performed.

  • RIP, Maynard!

  • We miss you, Maynard! You were the most amazing trumpet player ever!

  • Maynard Ferguson was the reason I started playing trumpet when I was in 2nd grade. I rarely play trumpet anymore, but I`ve been playing music ever since....Just Bass Guitar now.....Excellent musician, excellent inspiration.

  • @spencerfromillinois

Amazing how many trumpet players turn into bass players later, myself included

  • @freedmrydr

    I think it's because (a) we get very good at hearing harmonies, how they work with the melody, and the cool stuff that you can do even when you're not playing lead;

and (b), because we only have 3 valves to worry about, and that doesn't force us to develop crazy finger dexterity like woodwinds or string players. That level of dexterity is a must for even mediocre guitar players, but not for bass players.

  • I love this tune thanks for posting this. I wore out this LP listening to this.

  • What an amazing man he was!!! I had the privilege of seeing him perform in Ada, Oklahoma back in 2003 and he was freakin amazing! Before hearing him, i never knew that the trumpet could make such beautiful music in such high registers!! You will be greatly missed Mr. Ferguson :'( Rest In Peace

  • A awesome talent! Missed by many!

    R.I.P. Maynard Ferguson

  • Maynard was THE BEST! A musical inspiration to me and a very nice guy in person. Missing you Mr. Ferguson!

  • Nice biography, malawolf. Thanks!

  • omfg....amazing

  • lol, the coolest thing about all of this INCREDIBLE trumpeteering is the fact that he's doing this with ONLY 1 lung. 0.0

  • what do you mean?

  • he smoked, and lost a lung due to his smoking. he said once that he smoked with one lung, and played trumpet with the other.

  • R.I.P. Ferguson, you are an insperational person to many trumpeters around the world, I would like to seriously thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • best album I ever bought

  • Check out Maynard's sound at the beginning--Such Pathos- (don't know what it means? look it up lol) Beautiful AND with intensity--a lesson for the young players out there-- Def one of his BEST.. He was very instrumental, (pun intended), at incorporating different styles n genres of music--We miss you Maynard--Look out Gabriel!!!

  • Maynard went to se my Lord. He is now playing for him in Heaven. He left us a legacy that will never be duplicated. I thank God for his life and for the love of music he shared with all of us. No color lines. Just white and black notes heavenly put together beautifully.

  • that crazy canuck. RIP maynard

  • this guy can kick ass with his magnifisant radiating sounds constructed of wind and brass

    (made that up my self)

  • Awesome. Every high school trumpet player in 70's wanted to be Maynard.

Sorry Gameshark but most likely it wont happen. This kind of player comes along only once in a blue moon

  • we still do!

  • WHAT A BEAST!

  • this is amazing, I wish I could play as beautifully as him some day, because I am a trumpet player and I hope to be as good as him but I don't see it happening....
