Whenever I play this video, I just close my eyes and keep listening...The reason being, Das sir has sung a little differently compared to the original. yet it is so pure..Hats off!!! But his actions are some what distracting..hence I close my eyes.

Yesu Das Ji is a great singer and has a great voice. One is generally moved by his recital of slokams and his devotional songs ,but I am sorry to say this one does not create the usual effect. The problem is with the visual.By using the laptop as the autocue Yesudas ji has not been able to create a serene atmosphere which is so necessary for the rendition of a slokam or a devotional song. ditto. No bhakthi no bhavam. hail the musical sense of those those who applaude this rendition! Singing in kacheri usually brings out more with the likes of santhanam ( ever listed to bho shambho live?) but not with yesudas..not at least on this occation. this is singing for the sake of it.

Agreed this not one of his best performances. But recordings of these Kutcheris never come out well. And mind his age too..

Speaking of Bhakti and Bhavam, nobody could infuse those into mortal singing than Jesudas can, and make it divine. He does not need to be compared to anyone. Unique voice, unique singing style, soothing flow..

I saw the comments here and would like to say this. Yesudas is a "classical singer" not a "classical devotee". You should enjoy this from the perspective. Yesudas is all "voice"!. It's the voice that makes up for everything .. period! With his voice now, it's hard to express submissive devotion. May be 20 yrs ago he could have done it and has done it. Plus, his light music singing has obviously coloured his classical renditions. We should enjoy his voice..voice ..voice..voice..and ..voice!!.

Dont misunderstand, I think it has a nice melody, rhythm etc. But I don't think this is how a religious song should be sung. I believe there would be more seriousness which is a result of genuineness. Some things that indicate a lack of this for example can be seen in how he starts the song. He's itching his face, touching his nose, etc etc. Also the way he is singing is a bit crude, unnaturally simplistic and too abrupt at certain place. That inconsistency shows a lack of thought

u r mistaken , actually u know the frieness of Chennai , and even if u have any beard u would have also itchen ur face , Also about the Song , Harivarasanam ,the orginal version is only in the mood of sleepness to Lord Sastha. DAS sir , sang thousand times this song , giving a new classical style . he sangs in live ,his version not the orginal NOTICE : IN live Kacheri , Singer has the Freedom to sang in his style , thats the difference between kacheri and Record.
