Great documentary. The Holocaust deniers should see this video. Still, I never believe these people are genuine anyway in what they say anyway.
They are often trying to make some cheap political point. They shouldn't do it this way. Sure we may disagree with what Jewish people or Israel does from time to time.
To attach the memory of the Holocaust in these political discussions is way "below the belt".
They say that those who fail to learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.
We have failed to learn!
Dispite numerous enlightened comments here, and similar sentiments boasted by those who claim to be our leaders, Humanity has proved time and again it's unceasing talent for inhumanity. Not just in the evil men perpetrating such atrocity, but in the complacency of those that let it happen, and then try to claim ignorance later.
The late CBS president William Paley once called Murrow "a resolute and uncompromising man of truth". This piece of radio history is but a small example of why. We shall never see or hear the likes of Murrow again.
I wish I knew. I want to be a reporter when I'm older, but I assure you I will look to men like Murrow for inspiration. Hopefully, we can get a little of that back someday. I will do my best.
This was originally broadcast (via short wave) on CBS radio in April 1945- most documentaries usually match this audio with footage taken at the time when the Allies reached Buchenwald....but Murrow didn't need "pictures"- his commentary is disturbing and thought provoking enough....
Thank you for the post. It is chilling to hear Murrow's description of this babrbaric place. I visited Belsen in the 90's and can say that it was an eerie experience even 40 years after it's liberation. Lest we forget.
I have heard this broadcast before. It's amazing, you can hear that Murrow is mad about it. The ending "if I have offended you with this rather mild description of Buchenwald, I am not in the least bit sorry." This, and Martha Gellhorn's article about Dachau are some of the best journalism, just ever.

They all know the truth. Everyone does.

well, until stalin, pol pot, hussein etc etc etc. As Plato said "Only the dead have seen the end of war."

Never, never again will people of sound mind allow this filth ever to happen again to our fellow humans!

He could bring the pictures to your mind simply by his descriptions. Todays "reporters"could never do that.

...and people say it never happened.

Even after there are pictures upon pictures of starved, dead, naked bodies. People still deny.

It's a shame that Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann are even mentioned in the same breath as Edward R. Murrow.

Just, heartbreaking. You can hear how he's pained and lost by this sight.

Whatever happened to guys like this?

It's strange that no one can recreate this type of journalist today. They were all typically war correspondents.

I wish this guy was alive and working today. Modern journalism is essentially prostitution.

Sounded strangely cold, but still powerful. "If I have offended you by this rather mild account of Buchenwald, I am not in the least sorry."

I'm not a religious person, but thank God for Edward R. Murrow, for his bravery and uncompromising attitude.

Thank you for posting this. It needs to be required listening for all high schoolers. How could anyone deny the Holocaust after listening to this??
