The secret of leslie micing is to have one for each rotor - one aimed at the cabinet just below the opening for the upper rotors, and one aimed at the cabinet just above the opening for the bass rotors.
For these, I generally stick to a standard 888800000 With the 2-2/3' added to taste. Everything else is just a variation of that one registration. Little bit of overdrive to add some bite, and some reverb for ambiance. (Even tubes have a natural sustain to them when driven hard). Remember to express the sound with the pedal, it changes tone as well as volume. I'm not big on the harmonic percussion, but it can be useful to help bring out the organ in a mix.
i just needed a good registration for freebird, i can never get it to sound right. have you ever tried to play anything from Uriah Heep? especially demons and wizards or salisbury, those were their best albums. the organ parts are simple, but the sound is so heavy and inspiring, it makes up for the lack of complication completely. look up circle of hands-the versin from demons and wizards will teach you a new meaning of overdrive
Sure thing! The first few seconds was just the tail end of me just getting the sound I want. After that, the songs are: Freebird, Blue Collar Man, Whiter Shade of Pale, -little improv- , Foreplay/Longtime, The Launch, Green Onions, Benny and the Jets, Sweet Dreams.
In this recording I was playing through a small PA system using the digital leslie simulator. I do have an 11-pin leslie output, however, but I don't have the converter box to hook up my vintage cabinet. On the other hand, I find the simulation to be satisfactory and have no problem using a simple stereo output.
Sounds good! Organist1982 has one of these XK-2s and I played it several years ago in an "oldies" music band for the Ector theatre in Odessa. We used a Peavey powered mixer and Peavey speaker cabinet. I haven't played it though in a long time.
I wonder why they didn't replicate the black preset keys on these?
Great job!Great organ simulation!
