  • LISTEN to how that blue's riff at 1:48 runs into that wonderful legato sound at 2:05, & then back into blues at 2:15

That my friends, that wonderful & perfect combination of tense blues & fluid legato, was why i fell in love with Joe Satriani.

  • He is my favorite guitarist!!! in my opinion he is the best, but there are a bunch of ppl who will disagree. oh and btw... Satch has some pretty hairy arms... js

  • can i download this track somewhere!? its just amazing....

  • Engines of Creation carved a new path for me musically. Thanks Joe.

  • I knew Satriani lived in space...

  • that improvisation should be in a record..it's a must do record!

  • how the fuck did i go from watching classical guitar to joe satriani

  • he's my absolute idol, i hope i meet him one day to thank him for inspiring me to pick up the guitar everyday of my life and get better, i first heard the improv in this a year or more ago and loved it, now im an even bigger and true fan of him and his work, the improv is even more amazing.

  • 2.43!!!

  • 0:13 You did what when you listened to Hendrix and The Who?

  • @wtu61 He ment the band "Cream" xD. It consisted of Jack Bruce on bass, Ginger Baker on drums and Eric Clapton on guitar. Nice joke, tough. xD

  • @TheBlueBandYTAccount I know exactly who Cream are mate, i was just making a joke :')

  • Ever wonder how those shades stay on his head?

  • fucking amazing, mu opinion is that satriani has best feelings for guitar...

solos and melodies every song.. specific style, and I had luck to meet him and got his autograph and take pictures with him.

  • Idk what would happen if Hendrix never existed...but all i can say is Thank you god for Hendrix....

  • @cA5p3r3000 I totally agree with that statement

  • I´m getting goosebumps by watching this video everytime, especially at this part 1:12 - 1:26.

    What an inspiration!!

  • I am gonna buy a Fulltone Ultimate Octave soon! Does any one know of a video were Joe talks about his use and his settings of his peddal?

  • I don't really like his riffs, but can't say anything bad about his solos, they are amazing.

  • @EpictheEpicest Ah- not feeling the Gibson style Rock riffs?

Meh, sometimes I'm not in the mood for deep purple crunch either.

But he is my inspiration, my starting guitarist idol, and so I prefer his style either way.

One day or another, sooner or Later, I come back looking for Joe's sound.

  • imagine going to school with Satch and Vai... they had to have had some awesome high school talent shows

  • someone should tab this out. i dont even know were to begin hahaha

  • this man here...very reason I play guitar

  • Satriani just got so much more cooler in my eyes.

  • does anyone know the name of this background song

  • joe you influence me

  • That Improv is just so beautiful.

  • I don't want to see you play Joe, I want to hear you play and I've been listening for 21 years. Thanks Joe!

  • love his & shirt lol! he's awesome!

  • everytime i watch this guy he amazes me

  • does anyone know what amp settings (gain treble bass mid reverb) could get this sound? im in love with the tone in this vid and it would really help if anyone knew

  • @guitarshred32 Satch usually uses delay more than reverb. He likes having multiple delay pedals, one short, one long. I'd recommend using a lot of mids. Maybe a little bit of boost for the bass, but treble at 50%. You can use a Boss DS-1 Pedal for the gain. Or you could use two, the first one on low gain and the second on high. I think he likes to keep his amps pretty clean but you could boost the gain if you need to. He also uses a lot of whammy and octave effects.

  • @guitarshred32 Clean channel JSX, his tone is relatively tight. here, let me go to dimarzio to check out the mo joe... holy shit the tone on the mo joe is insanely flat! Treble=5, Mid=5.5, bass=5!

  • another great player saying hendrix got him to pick up the instrument.. what a coincidence

  • yes, we wanna see you do it...

  • Oh my god.. 1:46 - 2:00 min is amazing! that whole section is beautiful

  • What is he playing in the background. is it a song of his or just a jam?

  • That tone is the most beautiful tone i've ever heard

  • 2:43-44 классный ход , интересно что это за вещь или это импровизация ?

  • what song is he playing?

  • @Jungleboy867 DURING TALK HENDRIX BITS - END -THE TRAVELER

  • Genius ....

  • xD Voldemort with a guitar!!! LOL

  • Joe Satriani! the best guitarist! ...

  • That's because Joe has his own style that he has developed after being influenced by Hendrix and a host of others. He doesn't sound exactly like any one of them yet through his playing you can hear all of them topped with Joe's own personal expression.

  • king satriani,,,

  • Omg.. i NEED this backing track...

  • this video complete changed my opinion of joe satriani...hes pretty cool

  • @SLiMxShANuS And why did you have another opinion of Joe?

  • Esa imagen de Satriani con el espacio de fondo me hace acordar al gran Ultratón.

  • COMMENT (STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART).....53 or 35,,,, SATRIANI,,, there ainnt no moda fu-inn player like u man..... :) u a magiciannn....expressions in music...... i often get depressed whenever i see him playing somthng new. it would take me centuries to even get close to him, i just want to be able to play like him, justtttttttt for myself.... :((((((( i mean his compositions are way ahead thing. justtttttttt look at the melodies he creates while JUST IMPOROVISING........

  • hard to beleive satch is 53.. he dont look it

  • wat??????satch is 53.........???

  • Because he is bald, so you can't see his gray hair that's why he cut it off hahaha

  • satch is just awesome!!

  • some kind of fans now one knows the name of this bagrund song

  • He is just awesome. Master guitar player, master improviser...

  • any one knows wat song it is ??? if yes tellllllllllll mmmeeeeeeeeee pl.......

  • Beautiful unknown Satriani song:

    watch?v=SfM5EnqQ0VE

He did it as part of an interview for a magazine. Someone prepared a backing track and he improvised over it on the first take, resulting in the masterpiece above. Joe Satriani, I find no words...

  • I was 14 when i started too....interesting....Joe was always a favorite of mine

  • is that song just improvised or is that actually a song he has made cos i really wanna know what song that is lol joe satriani u are my god

  • All improvised from his heart...

  • I just love how no matter what!

    he always wears the shades..lololol

  • Listen To That Improv... I Come Back to this video time and time again for inspiration, and i know im not alone in that... Plus this comment if you agree, i wanna know just how many people are out there that listen to real music.

  • @myself-

One year later, and it's still the top comment. it might not mean much to any of you who are reading this-

but it means a lot to me. so if you gave me a thumbs up, thank you. I am still coming back to this video for more inspiration. and it keeps working.

    : )

  • Joe Satriani is the best :D

  • It's great that he's so humble about what he does

  • Joe's a cool dude!

  • what's that song he played?

  • " I cant beleive i went from being a 14 year old kid where i said, i wanna play the guitar to having this life where people wanna see me do it " Now you know he is the best

  • Its just amazing how, he is so honest about himself and playing and just such a lovely guy, i think about people like ygnwie malmsteen and people like that who are so over-rated , just look at joe whats the bad side about his playing, there are no faults at all in his guitar skill, im lost for words listening and seeing him play

  • You know, I understand where you're coming from, but even Joe doesn't think Yngwie is overrated. Sure he may have attitude problems, but IMO, amongst his peers, there is no animosity or competition. Everyone loves what the other dude does, even if they don't play the same style. Otherwise, Joe wouldn't have invited guys like Paul Gilbert or John P. to be on stage with him.

Love guitar for what it is, love guitar music for what it is, and all will be well.

  • Just beautiful...

  • someone should tab this out

  • joe is the man!

  • 2:17 - 2:27 was one of the most emotional guitar runs ive ever heard.... i got chills listening to it...

  • if anything its all about JOE being a great person, not just his music and guitar play.

even though NEAL SCHON for me is the ultimate and best guitarist in the universe, Joe is right second.

  • stfu

    joe rules

  • Steve Vai once said about Joe, quote "You can measure skill and practice but not talent."

  • Comment removed

  • He's such a smart guy and he's a guitar legend. Every time i see him play i hate that i can't play like that but he is awesome and hopefully someday i'll be able to play with that much technique and feel. Satch RULEZ!!!!

  • God how i dream to improvise like that, its soo beautiful. Joe is truly in inspiration.

  • that was actually REALLY deep. Satch FTW!

  • the man

  • Today Joe talks about the legends of yesterday, tomorrow we shall be talking about Joe.

  • That could not be said any better.

  • dud were already talking about him XD

  • @skimtildeath32 Right that

  • What is the song he is playing in the background? I like it.

    Satch FTW XD :)!

  • Got that improv he was playing gave me chills. I really hope he releases an album with an identical sound, cause that really blew my mind.

  • "IS THERe LOVE IN SPACE" IS KINDA LIKE IT.......kind of....

  • i love the last thing he says

  • Does anyone know the tab of what he's playing? If not could someone figure it out and send it to me?

  • This is a video to come back to time and time again for inspiration. It'd be an honor to meet the man and shake hands, ya know? ehh... Just goes to show-- The guitar is meant to be a life-long hobby or more.

  • yesssssss i've the same wish ,to meet the guy and shake his hand :)

  • wow thats awesome, how did they get him into space tho?

  • a blue screen....are you really that dim?

  • i was making a joke, and also, i think its called a green screen Mr. Dim...

  • green screen blue screen they all do the same thing.

  • yup, i think green is more common?

  • still they both do the same thing...one is just more reliable than the other

  • lol lrn2sarcasm

  • Basically it depends on the clothes you're wearing : look, if you wear a blue jean, when you'll erase by computer the blue screen part of the video, you will loose your legs ;)

  • That is one of the most beautiful things i ever heard ...personally i think that he plays stuff like that all the time when he's alone...he definately should record some of his improv stuff like that...or do something like that at a concert...reminds me of the song "I know your here" that Vai did at G3..it was like a solo with no band playin. What Joe just played in this video felt very personal, like he would only play that when he's by himself, idunno? its just so heartfelt he should record it

  • I agree with you completely. Would be nice if Joe could record some of his improv cos it sounds very heartfelt and emotive just like you said. I feel that fans would definitely appreciate Joe trying something entirely different for a change.

  • Absolutely dude, right from the heart. I watch this video all the time for inspiration.

  • what is this song !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing tone

  • Over the edge of this Universe...awesome player and music !!!

  • pure skill. pure inspiration

  • The music that accompanies you coming of age is the thing that stays with you all the time.

    So artistic and beautiful.

  • I still can't get over that song in the background.

He should definitely release it, hahaha.

  • ppl who infuince me eric clapton paul gilbet and Joe Satriani if i could play like them then....dam

  • if anyone

    anyone

    ever

finds out what song hes playing in the background

i will send you money lol

  • It's an improvised song :D

now give me my money :D

  • LoOK AT THAT GUITAR! satch is a god and some cool

  • what is that beautiful song in the background called? :D

    it's so beautiful

  • it's just a jam i gues, can't find it anywhere

  • He's so genuine. Just in this video you get a feeling of "truth."

    This video is very inspiring.

  • Anyone ever seen the eyes of Joe?

  • sure a 1000 times

  • oh yeha, lol makes him look even more like a turtle. lol satch ROCKS!!

  • I wish he does this more often, It's cool that he is explaining things here, also very profound what he is saying but I wish he would just play what he was playing non stop. It's awesome I can listen to this all my life.

  • Insane . . .

  • the improvisation throughtout the video is amazing! beutiful tone!

  • i would kill just to meat and talk to him he is wothout a doupt the most emotional gutiar player ever

  • I met him back in the mid ninties when he played in a music hall here in my town. Those who wanted to see him went out back near the bus after the show. It was freezing cold in mid November. What I remember about him was that he had a T-Shirt on in the cold, but came over and talk with us for about 10 minutes or so. He had no "Airs", and was a really cool, down to earth guy. I was like talking to your neighbor. That really left an impression on me about what kind of person he is.

  • yeah i heard he was a really nice guy and u can really tell cause all the music and interviews he does

  • its an incredible experience

He usually has a meet and greet when he plays live... its about 50 extra bucks

plus you get his cd extra

  • This video was very touching. I got shivers down my spine when I saw the emotion he was putting into that song. I just love Satch.

  • I love the guitar.

  • "dog with crown and earing" is a bad ass song

  • looks like their on Joe's spaceship

  • Jahs, that's called an improvisation :)

  • Anyone know the name of the song he's playing throughout the video?

  • i liked the very ending sounds pretty cool

  • I think I missed my calling as a guitarist I stopped playing when I was 15 just when most start getting good

  • pick it up again dude!

  • 2:19 to 2:27 is bad ass

  • One thing I like about Joe Satriani is that he's not one of these typical shredders. Yes, he can play fast, but he doesn't emphasize it. He can be a very emotive and provocative player as well as a full on rock n' roll in your face kind of player. As far as the heavy metal genre concerned, I consider Alex Lifeson, Kirk Hammet, and Satch to be my favorite players.

  • that's exactly what i think...... most other guitarist ( not all of them) sound the same, but satch had diversity

  • yh same for me man, what suprised me was that kirk took private lessons from satch, meaning he is good=] i like how he plays, how doesnt do head banginf like modern guitarists

  • I would go as far as saying Satriani is the best of my lifetime and maybe the best so far in history. His creativity and musical awareness are truly inspirational, in addition to his execution and feeling. Every one of his songs, EVERY ONE tells a story. That is unprecedented. Joe Satriani: More than just a fast guitar player.

  • wow. when he said "young ppl cant help but be origional. thats what makes music just keep on rollin" that friggin gave me hope man. i have always thought things like "man, in 20 years, music is gonna die i cant live with that man" geez if sum1 as musically intelligent and with insight like his, he must be right. man that just motivates me like no other. i always thought i was the only origional musician left, but now, imagine how many other kids are that way to, man. he is just so hopeful.

  • I wish i could get ahold of Joe and request him to do a song based around this song being played in the backround. It's spine-tingling dude!

  • does anyone know what he's playing in the background?

  • @ aaecinos

    Improve, but it's REALLY GOOD!

  • I love the solo he's playing

  • i agree

  • i think he is the best of all time.

  • his playing in the background is stellar

    he is truly amazing

  • he makes it look so easy

  • I freaking love Satch's tone. It may sound odd, but it actually makes my heart flutter...What I can I say? I literally love music.

  • Does any one know what song hes playinng in the back or is it just improvisation ?

  • This is the first time I heard him talk, and I really expected him to sound way more badass.

    He's a good guitarist though.

  • "liek ya dood i was liek holleeeee shiiiiit man hendrix wuz like tha fuckin......fuhckin......greatest god guy alive man. fuhck."

There, is that what you were fucking expecting?
