When Death metal first started it was primarily about death, gore etc. Today, many bands sing about many different topics such as life, nature, legends etc.. The sound is still there and I would hardly call them posers, although you probably would.

And it has always puzzled me why bands like Deicide, Possessed, Behemoth were all death metal bands despite their lyrics.

this would be considered DSBM since DSBM's style is usually More ambient, melodic than run of the mill black metal. DSBM vocals are usually more akin to painful/sorrowful moans, shrieks, and screams, where as normal black metal will have shrieks, etc that will try to convey a different feeling rage, anger, hatred. And Lyrical themes that are focused on suicide and depression. along these lines Thy Light is DSBM
