One of our neighbours has two dachschunds, and one of them has his back legs paralysed - but she still takes them up together. She walks after the paralysed one, keeping his back legs up with a long strip of cloth. I think it's heroic how she kept the dog no matter what =)

well actually the fighting breeds are bred to be vicious, its in their nature. Unless your a responsible owner who can control their temper it can get very ugly, any incorrect attempts to control the behavior can be seen as a challange and they escalte very quickly.

So don't discount the breed, and don't get one if you dont know what your doing.

No reason for anyone to feel sorry for him. ^^ Handicapped dogs do not realize they're handicapped. When they're missing limbs, they see it as normal and go on about their daily life. They usually tend to dislike special treatment towards their handicap because they can't understand WHY they're getting it. Popeye looks very happy and I don't think he even realizes that there's something wrong with him. =) You go, Popeye!

It's not the breed, honey, but the people that own them that have made them mean enough to injure. Any dog, from a Chiuahuah to a Saint Bernard can kill or injure. Pit bulls are just the meanest looking ones, so therefore the most popular to train to harm. It has nothing to do with the dog itself. It's just unfortunate so few people aren't educated well enough to deal with such a smart and sweet dog better. As a pitbull owner, I speak from experience.

I agree with you on most of you're points.

All though aggression was a highly desirably characteristic in a pit bull up until recently as they were used as pit fighting dogs.

So I think in some ways it is fair for people to be afraid of a dog that is bred to fight bulls, bears and other dogs.

They are a smart and sweet dog but that all depends whether they are raised that way, deliberately or not.

You must have never had a dog. This is how they play, they jerk their necks back and fourth like that all the time. Their necks are very strong and they use that technique to latch onto the other animals necks and break the other animals neck, not their own. Obviously they hold back when play fighting, but you get the point.
