The difference is that in the Old Testament "faith" wasn't required. According to the book, Abraham actually talked with god on a physical level like you would talk to a person face to face. The prophets "supposedly" talked to god, hearing voices out of the clouds and such. It's not until after Jesus that all this "faith" nonsense kicked in. Even during the life of Jesus, there were people who didn't believe it. Couldn't have been all that impressive. Now all we have are STORIES.

Morality, in my opinion, is the cooperation of a sentient being, or beings, in order to increase it's chances of survival to it's maximum level. This also take into account whether or not a being is aware enough and/or able to comprehend the variations in which they are able to survive. Example, a lion (as far as we know) doesn't kill for the hell of it, but only for survival purposes & only because it cannon comprehend other ways to maximize survival of itself or it's species.

Morality, in my opinion, is the cooperation of a sentient being, or beings, in order to increase it's chances of survival to it's maximum level. This also take into account whether or not a being is aware enough and/or able to comprehend the variations in which they are able to survive. Example, a lion (as far as we know) doesn't kill for the hell of it, but only for survival purposes & only because it cannon comprehend other ways to maximize survival of itself or it's species.

Humans aren't social animals by the scientific context. We are animals, and amoung animals there is heighrachy. The highest human in the Nietzschean sense would fall above morality if punishment weren't the order of the day for him. So all this amounts to is some clever word tricks and and obediance to a God to keep animal instincts in check where society fails and, where God fails, a leader is born. The Princes of old still exist, they are the leaders of today hiding behind "reason."

The Black people who are Christian today, MOSTLY come from a long line of people who were kidnapped, raped, beaten, and FORCED to follow Christianity, believing their "Masters" were god on earth, assigned to rule by the god in the bible. the same god who was cool with slavery, basically making a "How to own slaves" handbook.

@mattakudesu That sounds as close as I can imagine heaven to be. If I told my family I didn't believe in a god, it would be way worse than if I were gay. The looks of pity I would receive would probably be too much to handle.
I'm at the point where I'm not telling them because I would rather let them be happy. Most of my friends know, and I suspect that my mom thinks I don't believe. One of the last things I want is for family members to pray for me.
