i tried this too, lost half of my cutting disc and in the end the bottle broke... then i started searching the net for other methods, and - i found a lot better and easier ways to cut bottles, and they work just fine. :) i suggest doing that as well.

You should research the "cracking off" method. uses only a scratch and a strong heat source. it's way easier, alot quicker and you end up with a much cleaner cut. no tape required.

dude you should check out the green science channels technique. i have used string and lamp oil for years and im here to say your tech or mine dont hold a candle to his. it will make you rethink the process for sure. it did me.

Fill with oil then put a redhot poker in it, it should clean-cut at the level of oil. So i was told anyhow.

@sambasabrosa yeah carbide might be a little rough. it is a diamond cutting disk. There is a link to the type in my blog post about this at the link under the video
