  • Edita is very nice, but, the real and only Gilda to me was Anna Moffo. Edita is a human singer. Anna was an Angel personification of Gilda.

  • BELISSIMA!

  • Me encanta simplemente perfecta

  • what year is this performance?

  • She IS Gilda to me.

  • 4:36 - 44 = literal, genuine VOCALISATION

  • Could someone please upload "Tutte le feste al tempio" ? I mean this version of course. I find Edita's interpretation sublime.

  • One of my fav renditions of this role, i love her tecnique amazing singing

  • edita is the best and this is the perfect caro nome.

  • oh GAWD this makes me cry

  • Meine Beste!

  • The best. Absolutely the best. Perfect!! No one sang like this!

  • I fall in love everytime i hear this aria

  • MERAVIGLIOSO!!!!

  • @vonspre

pero la escenografia es de Giulietta e Romeo...

Voz bellisima...voy a escucharla en Casta Diva

    grazie Amadeumio

  • @vonspre

èsta no es el problema..sigo buscando

  • listen 4:23 to 4:44: a nightingale is singing! sounds so soft and easy. Wonderful

  • I wonder if she teaches canto

  • YOU should get teached...

  • She has an amazing voice

  • aw my names edita; my best friends name is gilda ! how kute :}

  • She sounds so young, light and fresh in this! I loved they way she modulated some of the top notes with piano. Excellent acting as well.

  • @dt195k2 Yes, and that's one of the most difficult things to do. ( mean singing high notes piano)

  • beautiful, w/ her lyrical voice. R u sure one is 'the best'?? Nope, I think Sutherland is 'as good as' her.

  • edita is the best one, with no dout!

she and pavarotti together are fantastic!

  • Her voice continues to sound like the finest crystal.

  • Beautiful...but what attracts me is the production! This is a movie or what ? Looks like Zefferelli...it's gorgeous...looks like Romeo and Juliet from 1968..a Baroque/Renaissance period....Edita sings lovely...

  • What! You really do not know Jean-Pierre Ponelle? He was a genius!!!!

His Monteverdi trilogy with Harnoncourt, for instance..

    Oh! Unsurpassable!...even bettter than Zefirelli.

  • Pardon me!..PoNNelle....;)

  • Una Opera belissima

    Bravo Segniore Verdi Grazie

  • she's the best!

  • Quelle pureté de voix. Une vraie splendeur !

  • She captures the pure broken-heartedness of Gilda so perfectly!

  • Gilda isnt supposed to be broken hearted. She is supposed to be lovestruck and infactuated with Duke. She's head over heels in love.

  • Yes, you're right. I was getting at how Gruberova manages to play the character with a perfect fragility. Comepletely overjoyed but innocent of what's coming.

  • Very fluid voice, and she really more than manages to capture the essence of Gilda's innocence and naivete.

  • please turn your attention also to the video clip of Petya Ivanova and her "Caro nome"!

  • Edita Gruberova bringt den Himmel auf die Erde!!! Sie tröstet die Verzweifelten und ernährt die Armen.

  • Bellissimo, brava. La migliore che abbia sentito dopo la Sutherland.

  • Brava Edita! Superb! 1983 production I think.

  • Edita's performance is unforgettable! It's been years since I watched this. And I could remember it completely.

  • There is a superb early live recording posted of Virginia Zeani full of character and beautiful tone. Unmissable.

  • For a new superb interpretation try Eglise Gutierrez posted by jung123456.

  • Her cadenza at the end is absolutely perfect. Perfectly stable, pianissimo, gorgeous high notes.

  • she is a bad ass soprano!!! so beautiul i'm singing this for solo/ensemble i just luv it! =)

  • Gruberova and Sutherland are unsurpassed in this role. I love the way Gruberova does those wonderful high notes where she starts piano and goes to forte.

  • How many high coloraturas do you know that can match her????

  • nobody on this.....Sumi Jo and Dessays' are good but it doesnt have the same full quality..

  • shi is one of ze best Gilda.

  • En su voz ..... es chingonsisima esta aria la adoro pero solo en su voz

  • increible!!!!!!!!!! la mejor gilda!!!!

  • I felt like she was Gilda. She wasn't pretending! Stellar performance and I'm glad it included the recit.

  • She's so sweet! Love what she does with her voice...it really melted my heart.

  • No words can describe what this lady does with her voice! Her ultimate technique enables her to do anything she wants with her instrument, even at the highest notes. How flexible her high C is, working it flawlessly from pianissimo to forte and back again, doing a crescendo a decrescendo on one damn high note as if it was nothing!! Or her last trill in this aria, what she does with it and how playifully she crowns it with her straight perfectly pitched pianissimo...Brava!!

  • absolutely the best ''gilda'' ever come. i couldn't find any mistakes at the notes could you? :)

  • I have this recording on DVD. I wish she had sung this role with Alfredo Kraus though. She is my favourite soprano of all time. Bravo Gruberova

  • Is it possible, if I may be so bold to ask, to post some videos? :)

  • Gruberova's voice is simply perfect in this video.

I think this is the most beautiful recording of the opera as a whole. Unfortunately, it's a video with low sound quality. (the studio recording with Bruson/Sinopoli is much inferior)

  • Gruberova, Slovakia's jewel.

  • Maravillosa voz!!.... Una perla preciosa...

  • Listening to her is sooo relaxing...i ADORE her voice...

  • Edita is divine in this aria (actually in everything she sings). This Caro nome is unmatched!!!

I have to agree in the wigg comments; terrible!

  • She is by far my favorite soprano. The wig doesn't even matter. She could have shaved her head and I wouldn't even notice because the beauty of her voice is so amazing!

  • She's my favourite one, too. The one and only. At 60 (now 62) yo she sings a great Norma. I've never really liked Norma before.. Now it is my favourite opera!

  • Gruberova is one of my favorite lyric coloraturas. Her pianissimos are to die for! I still say they could have found a more flattering wig for her in the movie.

  • Bravissima

  • WOW!!!! Simply WOW!!! Brava!

  • Simply Stunning!!!! Praise God!

  • Her voice is really beautiful, but I love Andrea Rost's Caro nome much more...

  • I love Edita. Every thing she does vocally sounds so natural, save for the weird "e" vowel on the staccati that paminaase mentioned. She is truly an artist!

  • at the high stacattos I didn't like the wowels to be pronounced as "e". but the pianos are astonishing !

I love you gruberova, your voice is as sweet as candy !

  • She sings "e" because in the score, it's written "a te" before that passage. Most sopranos just sing it on ah, cause we hate the "e" vowel--especially in our middle voice area. But, Gruberova usually sings what's written in the score text wise, even if other sopranos don't. God! I love her voice. She's so amazing.

  • absolutely classy...the best coloratural soprano of all times!

  • Gruberova is my favourite Gilda. Hear her in the quartette!

  • Oh, God! The quartet is to die for! So amazing!!!!
