This is BY far my favorite player of all. But I cannot tell you he was better than MJ. Much as I want to, I cannot and be true to the game. But I guarantee there was nobody that ever looked better dunking the basketball. But he was definitely so very much more than just a dunker. One of the very best we have seen, or will ever see.

The Sixers were LOADED! McGinnis, Cunningham, Collins, Free, Dawkins, Caldwell AND Bobby Jones, and Kobe's dad, Joe. The Nets sent him to Philly for MONEY! They didn't even get one of these good players back from Philly. From the time of the merger in 1976, the Nets were basically dead until 1984 when management finally put together a decent team. Those bad years were the result of trading Julius.

You got a watered down version of what Julius was. This man was THE reason for the merger. I love how people argue about who is better...If people go by stats...its neither of them..its WILT CHAMBERLAIN! If your go by popularity..JORDAN...the internet wasnt around for the other guys. Jordon was KING of popularity. But for all Jordan's prowess....It was the DOCTOR who made MJ say.. he was a great shot blocker too. i think he made the best blocks i seen in a player. he would block a shot and make it look like he was swatting a fly. and he would make those blocks mostly when the game was on the line. i don't know why he never made more all defense teams. his steals and blocks always

Actually Michael Jordan has 2 200 steal - 100 block seasons. He has 0 100 steal - block seasons. Doc's 12 100-100 seasons remain impressive. Need I remind you when Doc retired he was the all-time steals leader. He also scored at least 1000 points in each of his 16 seasons. This is not to take way from Jordan's accomplishments but to show that Erving was an all-around player who always looked to improve himself.

Erving was a better Rebounder and Shot Blocker than Jordan. Ye also played SF with a 6`6 1/2 height so that makes him as good and better in many aspects. DJ was a mix of a SG and SF all that rapped into one

Dawkins was a man-child literally. He was big and powerful but was not the smartest guy. He messed up the Sixers big time in the 77 finals, igniting the fight that woke the Blazers up and gave them momentum. That's why he is a scrub. Why start a fight when you're up 2-0? He was a beast that broke backboards but he was also the straw that broke the Sixers back in those finals.

Daryl Dawkins wasn't exactly a scrub at C for the Sixers before they traded for Moses..no match for Jabbar though..but you're right, Jordan's teams never faced a dominant, All-Pro center in the Finals..God Bless the Good Doctah for all he did for this leauge..

And by the way, MJ didn't have to face the greatest center in NBA history during the time he led the Bulls to the Finals...let's see: 91 Lakers-no Kareem, 92 Blazers-nada, 93 Suns-Majerle wasn't that dominant, 96 Sonics-nada, 97 & 98 Jazz-nada. The 1976 sixers had to face Walton, and the 80 & 82 sixers had to face Kareem. It was only when they had Moses that they were able to stop Kareem. But Dr. J carried them even though their center was wack.

And one more thing, the Doc was the reason why the NBA merged with the ABA in '76. The NBA was losing fans during that time, and they needed a spectacular bball player who can innovate the game. And that player was Dr. J, truly the greatest of all time.

He got the NBA going through the dark times of the late 70's (only the Doc had fans during that time before the arrival of Bird and Magic), and MJ himself admitted that w/o the Doc there would be no Mike. But these cats today got no respect (yeah, especially you, LeBron) to the Doc.

Actually Doc has over 5000 assists in his career and 30026 points. He also has over 10,000 rebounds and is one of only 5 players to have over 30,000 points, 10000 rebounds, and 5000 assists. MJ is not one of them. Doc also retired as the all-time steals leader ( since exceeded by Stockton. also... number of 100 block- 100 steal seasons.. Dr.J 12, Jordan 0

And I also see that you conveniently fail to mention that Jordan was always in the top 3 in the league in steals and that he passed Dr.J in steals LONG before Stockton did. MJ is second all time in total steals.
