I swear Don Music has the worst songwriting mind possible. Working backwards in every song, viciously self-loathing, banging his head at ever opportunity. Unfortunately, this is what most songwriters are like and that's why the character is so brilliant. This is my favourite one. Kermit's reactions are priceless.
@TheSourceForDVDVHS Well, the real deal was, his performer Richard Hunt died in '92, so they couldn't do anymore segments (although why the never just put in a new performer is beyond me). The repeats of his skits were taken off because kids at home were imitating it.
@wattamack4 - Understandable, but you'd think the parents at home would explain to their kids that they were watching a Muppet, and real people could get hurt doing the same thing...to me, it's like dumping Cookie Monster b/c some kid shoved a dozen cookies in his mouth at once and choked to death.
@TheSourceForDVDVHS Don Music should not have been removed for any reason; they should have stopped Don Music from banging his head against the piano. Several other clips/skits have been removed over the years and Sesame Street has gottin worse & worse. (i.e.: the counting segment when the baker falls down the stairs at the end, everything gets cleaned with the kid taking a shower, and many others.
Do you remember a skit (film) when an Afro-American boy puts on his pajamas, goes to bed with his teddy bear, dreams about his day, and the teddy bear winks at his dad in the end when he opens the door to check on him?
Maybe they should have had someone rub Don Music's back when he was losing his temper, to calm him down. That's a great way to deal with people losing their temper, especially kids.
I would LOVE to see the english ( I only speak THAT language) version of Don Music writing Old Macdonald. Old Macdonald had a farm. EIEIO. And on his farm he had a.... had a... had a...
Oh my heck...I LOVED watching this when I was little!! How that poor guy keeps banging his head in frustration...quite a few time too. I bet he had migraines afterwards. Nice bust of Beethoven on the piano (or was it Mozart?)...but I prefer Tchaikovsky. DON MUSIC ROCKS!!! :)
This clip is different to the others because it has Kermit questioning and criticizing the choice of words for the song when it is usually Don Music who does that.
@finnishminnow My brother & I always loved the Don Music clips, because he & I were big fans of classical music. We even dabbled in writing sheet music ourselves and played guitar.
Thanks for uploading the English Version of this Don Music skit in addition to the people of SesameStreet, "wattamack4". We really appreciate that because a lot of users in additon to me have been dying this Don Music skit in English.
And BTW... does anyone have the skit of Don Music writing "Old MacDonald" in English to upload?
Probably because (with the exception of the "treat") Don Music wrote this one virtually by himself. Usually, it's the frog who comes up with the lyrics and ideas, only for Don to take all the credit. Kinda selfless of Kermit if you think about it.
True, though Kermit doesn't always let Don get away with that. Remember, in the "Whistle, whistle, little bird" one, he says "Your biggest hit? We did this together! I want a co-lyricist credit here."
@muppetfan33 I don't know, but for years, I could never understand what Kermit grumbled at the end...but I do now: "Another instant Evergreen from the pen of Don Music." what exactly did he mean by that?
Hahahaha, Don Music, bringing on the funny as usual!
Of course, my favorite part is where Little Chrissy and his boys sing backup, but what's up with the Alphabeat's voices??? The lavender one's supposed to have the bass voice I love so much, and the green one's voice is a little high, compared to his baritone in Yankee Doodle.
I have no idea when this was made (though it says it goes as early as Season 9, but I think this was probably made in Season 7), so I think they were possibly minor characters back then.
They were minor characters back then? Looking at the number of SS books they've been featured in (which is 6, according to the band's article on Muppet Wiki), that alone would've been enough to almost consider them major characters.
I don't know... maybe Moss just wasn't available at the time. I have noticed that in some earlier songs like "Count It Higher" and "Exit", the Alphabeats seem to have their regular performers already.
And listening more carefully, I can sort of hear Moss in the "Yellowstone Park" song.
