  • Here's one more:

    Walk walk walk yourself

    gently up and down

    Merrily Merrily Merrily Merrily

    Go from town to town

  • Here's another good one:

    Climb Climb Climb the rock

    gently to the top

    Merrily Merrily Merrily Merrily

    Think when you can stop

  • Here's a good one:

    Fly fly fly your plane

    gently in the sky.

    Merrily Merrily Merrily Merrily

    Life is way up high

  • It is very funny to hear Kermit beginning a response with, "Well, yeah but..."

  • Here's something just as good:

    Ride, ride, ride your bike

    Gently down the hill.

    Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

    Life is but a thrill.

  • Here's another idea:

    Fly, fly, fly your kite

    Gently through the air.

    Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

    Life is but a care.

  • @11tvbuff OR Fly, fly, fly, your plane gently through air merrily, merrily merrily, merrily

    life's without a care.

  • i love his sketches. i still crap up at him throwing tantrums and hitting his head on the piano, and i am grown now.

  • It's funny because here you have Don coming up with the answers and Kermit going, "Well, yeah, but...."

  • "Drive your car" is a good "Row your boat" twist. I don't drive a car. I ride a bike, so I'm thinking my very own version could be...

Ride, ride, ride your bike, gently down the road.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but an ode.

    How does that sound?

  • Does anyone have the sketch where Don Music writes "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" ?

  • I imagine in some cities and towns, you DO row your boat down the street during the rainy season. LOL

  • @boywonder0319

In Venice and Amsterdam, you row your boat down the street because the streets are waterways.

  • This used to just crack me up when I was a kid. I still laugh at him losing his cool but now I'm busting up at "What is life ANYWAY?????" :56 LMAO

  • "What is life anyway?" Good question, Don.

  • "hypocracy" - would that be a society run by a subterranean elite? Or maybe a society exhibiting a marked lack of leadership?

  • WHAT IS LIFE ANYWAY??!

  • i'd forgotten what a drama queen (king?) don music was. lol

  • Don Music would get along with Scootaloo from my little pony friendship is magic :D

  • Man, I bet he had brain damage similar to an old boxer or NFL player.

  • @kickntaste: ...which is probably why he had trouble remembering the "real" lyrics and rhymes, and ended up composing those parodies by accident. :-)

  • Oh How i miss this show!!! Teaches kids logical reasoning so simply!!!!

  • FIGHT THE POWAH

  • LUV THIS CHARACTER

  • Don't you just love Kermit's response always beginning with, "Well, yeah, but...."

  • LOL This guy makes me laugh a lot when I was a kid, good times :,)

  • Is the Yankee Doodle one the only one where Kermit suggests the word that's usually used at the end of the song?

  • I swear Don Music has the worst songwriting mind possible. Working backwards in every song, viciously self-loathing, banging his head at ever opportunity. Unfortunately, this is what most songwriters are like and that's why the character is so brilliant. This is my favourite one. Kermit's reactions are priceless.

  • This character drove me nuts!

  • my golf game brought me here

  • Owen Pallett brought me here. <3

  • Don Music looks like Erlend Oye lol (both are cool lol)

  • I think that is a framed picture of Joe Raposo back there on Don's wall

  • The reason why Don was removed was because kids were mimicking how Don banged his head against the piano.

  • @TheSourceForDVDVHS Well, the real deal was, his performer Richard Hunt died in '92, so they couldn't do anymore segments (although why the never just put in a new performer is beyond me). The repeats of his skits were taken off because kids at home were imitating it.

  • @wattamack4 In other words, PC BS!

  • @wattamack4 - Understandable, but you'd think the parents at home would explain to their kids that they were watching a Muppet, and real people could get hurt doing the same thing...to me, it's like dumping Cookie Monster b/c some kid shoved a dozen cookies in his mouth at once and choked to death.

  • @TheSourceForDVDVHS Don Music should not have been removed for any reason; they should have stopped Don Music from banging his head against the piano. Several other clips/skits have been removed over the years and Sesame Street has gottin worse & worse. (i.e.: the counting segment when the baker falls down the stairs at the end, everything gets cleaned with the kid taking a shower, and many others.

  • @AFGSANFORD2 Another example of the continuing pussification of America by soccer moms and the PC pigs.

  • @AFGSANFORD2

Do you remember a skit (film) when an Afro-American boy puts on his pajamas, goes to bed with his teddy bear, dreams about his day, and the teddy bear winks at his dad in the end when he opens the door to check on him?

  • @AFGSANFORD2

Maybe they should have had someone rub Don Music's back when he was losing his temper, to calm him down. That's a great way to deal with people losing their temper, especially kids.

  • @Pocockable That's a real good idea! I like that except I like to have my back scratched (a woman's sharp fingernails feel good!)

  • @TheSourceForDVDVHS Yeah I remember reading.

  • Are these the performers?:

Reporter Kermit: Jim Henson (of course)

Don Music: Richard Hunt (once again, of course)

    Little Chrissy: Christopher Cerf (obviously)

Lavender Alphabeat: Richard Hunt (instead of Jeff Moss)

Green Alphabeat: Jerry Nelson (instead of Richard Hunt)

  • The original..

    Çek çek kürekleri koştur atını

Neşeli sakin tasasız çıkar hayatın tadını

    :D

  • I really like it when Kermit wears his hat like that.

  • I would LOVE to see the english ( I only speak THAT language) version of Don Music writing Old Macdonald. Old Macdonald had a farm. EIEIO. And on his farm he had a.... had a... had a...

  • jjjjjjjjjjjajajajjaa... I love it!

    Donde está esto en español!

Rema rema rema tu bote..muy felices y contentos vamos por ...... vamos por....vamos por ....la calle ....Ups!

  • What about Venice???

  • This rocks!

  • Don sure was a great songwriter wasn't he? And he looks like Hugh Grant.

  • Don music bangs his head due to his frustration. It does physical and mental damage.

  • "What is life anyway?!?!" I'm like... 42?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @sathyaprabh00 Did you mean to say it DOES physical and mental damage?

  • @pantherbuff89 Yes I did. I'll fix it

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my heck...I LOVED watching this when I was little!! How that poor guy keeps banging his head in frustration...quite a few time too. I bet he had migraines afterwards. Nice bust of Beethoven on the piano (or was it Mozart?)...but I prefer Tchaikovsky. DON MUSIC ROCKS!!! :)

  • Don: Row Row Row your boat gently down the stream, If I can't remember the last word, I am going to scream!!!

  • Good one XD

  • @See918 The wording you're looking for is: Life is but a dream, Don.

  • jajajaja Don Musico era de lo mas chido en Plaza Sesamo !

  • Don music need to write rap lyrics!!!

  • Rema, rema, rema tu coche, rema por la calle...

Muy felices y contentos vamos por el valle...

Si alguien lo tiene en español, no sean malos, súbanlo.

  • This clip is different to the others because it has Kermit questioning and criticizing the choice of words for the song when it is usually Don Music who does that.

  • In Venice, you row a boat down the street, Don and Kermit!

  • @Pocockable you have a point there. but did you mean Venice, California or Venice, Italy? just kidding...I know you mean Italy. hee hee.

  • Well, not exactly. There aren't any REAL streets in Venice, so it's something of a different story.

  • nice jajajajaja

  • @SIRchopski

'Evergreen' was a song by Barbra Streisand, a big big hit at the time this aired.

  • Comment removed

  • This skit is from episode 1063, aired on December 7, 1977

  • ...earliest known airing though, not first.

  • @wattamack4 How can it be earliest known if you know there was another that came first?

  • @ceredigio Really? I would've guessed 1976.

  • class

  • WHAT IS LIFE ANYWAY?!

  • i love when he bangs his head

  • whoa don's really gotta be careful! he can get a serious head injury or even a brain bleed if he bangs his head to hard onto his piano.

  • Now if someone could download Don Music rewriting Old Macdonald Had A Farm, I'll be a happy camper.

  • Very interesting.

  • @finnishminnow My brother & I always loved the Don Music clips, because he & I were big fans of classical music. We even dabbled in writing sheet music ourselves and played guitar.

  • @CanadaFamilyMan

    That's very nice, man.

  • So will I XD

  • @muppetfan33 So will I.

  • Thanks for uploading the English Version of this Don Music skit in addition to the people of SesameStreet, "wattamack4". We really appreciate that because a lot of users in additon to me have been dying this Don Music skit in English.

And BTW... does anyone have the skit of Don Music writing "Old MacDonald" in English to upload?

  • My only hope: Wait for Sesame Street to upload it on their website.

  • You are so right. And therefore... that's a very good idea as well, man.

  • Don Music, the original headbanger.

  • What is life anyway?! good point there Don. Ah, the over dramatics of being an artist.

  • Anyone know why the frog was so miffed at the end?

  • Well, let's face it- is that a very good song Don did?

  • Well....... not really.

  • Not to mention it's slightly more predictable than the others.

  • Not really?! It was a great song! And a very catchy one at that. Just wondering, why didn't you like it?

  • I didn't HATE it. It's an okay song.

  • Oh, okay. I misjudged your comment. We're cool now. :-)

  • I do like it. I just think it's a bit more predictable than Don's other compositions.

  • I know you like it. I was talking to muppetfan33 at the time I posted that comment.

  • Probably because (with the exception of the "treat") Don Music wrote this one virtually by himself. Usually, it's the frog who comes up with the lyrics and ideas, only for Don to take all the credit. Kinda selfless of Kermit if you think about it.

Or maybe Kermit just didn't like the tune.

  • True, though Kermit doesn't always let Don get away with that. Remember, in the "Whistle, whistle, little bird" one, he says "Your biggest hit? We did this together! I want a co-lyricist credit here."

  • @muppetfan33 I don't know, but for years, I could never understand what Kermit grumbled at the end...but I do now: "Another instant Evergreen from the pen of Don Music." what exactly did he mean by that?

  • I remember this song being done on "Mr. Rogers", only with bigger words:

    Propel, propel, propel your craft

    Gently down liquid solution

    Extatically, Extatically, Extatically, Extatically

    Existence is but an illusion.

  • I also remember it! That was pretty heady for the Rogers crowd. Wasn't that King Friday's version of the song?

  • It was indeed. He sang it not in the Neighborhood of Make Believe but in Roger's home when he was showing off his puppeteering skills.

  • That was on Mister Roger's Neighborhood? Aren't those words a bit big for the little ones who watched it?

  • Well, King Friday tells us in advance that he likes to use big words.

  • No kidding. ;-)

  • And then Rogers told us what song that was a big-worded version of.

  • 0:11-0:13

  • Nice little sketch.

  • It sure is, man. And therefore, I love this sketch so much.

  • Where did you get this, Alex?

  • They had this on the Sesame Street website, so I dubbed the English audio over a Dutch post.

  • Aha. Very resourceful.

  • Finally, The English version.

  • Hahahaha, Don Music, bringing on the funny as usual!

Of course, my favorite part is where Little Chrissy and his boys sing backup, but what's up with the Alphabeat's voices??? The lavender one's supposed to have the bass voice I love so much, and the green one's voice is a little high, compared to his baritone in Yankee Doodle.

  • I have no idea when this was made (though it says it goes as early as Season 9, but I think this was probably made in Season 7), so I think they were possibly minor characters back then.

  • They were minor characters back then? Looking at the number of SS books they've been featured in (which is 6, according to the band's article on Muppet Wiki), that alone would've been enough to almost consider them major characters.

  • I guess for the record: Hunt and Nelson probably did the voices for the Alphabeats in the SS news flash segments, but that's just my theory.

  • If so, maybe Jeff Moss was busy with music stuff back then?

  • I don't know... maybe Moss just wasn't available at the time. I have noticed that in some earlier songs like "Count It Higher" and "Exit", the Alphabeats seem to have their regular performers already.

And listening more carefully, I can sort of hear Moss in the "Yellowstone Park" song.

  • In "Count It Higher", I couldn't hear Moss's voice, so I think it sounds like someone else (Richard, maybe?).

Now, "Yellowstone Park" I haven't heard yet. I guess I need to sometime.

  • There's already a video of it on YouTube and SesameStreet's website. ;)

P.S. it is Moss, him and Cerf can just sound a little similar sometimes.

  • He kind of reminded me of Jim Boyd from The Electric Company in a way.

  • Which one? The green Alphabeat?

  • Yeah.

  • It was a wild guess. I've never seen The Electric Company before. I've always been a Sesame Street child.

  • I didn't really like The Electric Company, to tell you the truth.

  • Why not? No Muppets? ;-)

  • it just wasn't my style.

  • I didn't think so.

Are you more of a Sesame Street kid, too?

  • I don't really like today's Sesame Street, but I like their stuff from the old days.
