long live J Dilla! i'm working on a project consisting of all Dilla beats (released or un-released) & if anyone can get in touch with the Yancey Estate please inbox me. i want them to see how Dilla's work inspired me. i already uploaded a few on my channel anything with a picture of Dilla feel free to check it out & give your input i want to make sure i'm doing his work justice. peace & blessings!
I 'm glad to say I was there when Common came to the House of Blues and had Busta Jump out on stage as a surprise and got the whole audience to pay homage to DIlla!
Nicely done documentary, it's a shame there wasn't anybody from Stones Throw talking about Dilla though. Would have been interested in hearing J Rocc or Madlib share their thoughts on some of these things.
@clcproduction i feel ya ,imagine this tho mad lib originally from 805 and he was the only producer jay dee was feelin was on his level and no disrespect to pete rock cuz that was js inspiration to do music and at the same tim e even dr dre used tio have conversations on the phone wit dilla ,but man we got some hiphop shit on the 805 madlib i really dont think this video is dis respectinng stones throw tho
First of all, happy birthday to Dilla, the greatest producer of any music ever. Second, I didn't realize my comment was so controversial. Pretty sure I didn't complain OR say anything negative. I just finished watching the documentary myself, and I was happy with the content. He got great interviews, and great footage from, what I'm assuming is, the family archives. I still don't think the trailer is good. It made a bad first impression, and for a film, that means EVERYTHING!
loved the documentary, last couple of minutes choked me up. Could you please, please, please upload the full footage of him in the studio with Common and his gig with Slum Village?
damn nigga chill, if Ma Dukes needs help with Jay's past hospital bills along with her own since she herself has been suffering from the same disease that took her son...I'm sure Houseshoes and Stonesthrow still try to raise funds to help out, but your'e here talkin like how they should've gotten Scorsese to shoot this doc and shit?? damn not everyone has income like that buddy, chill the fuck out.
I Praise Ma Dukes, Her health isn't tip-top and Stuff but yet shes the torch holder for his legacy, like she is an amazing person. and she didnt hinder his passion.
If u really love Dilla just leave good comments....Dilla the music out now i wish u were here to see how u changed the game.....everybody uses the handclap
I can not believe people are bitchin about production value. BKYLE did the film, if any of you idiots knew who that was, you would know the content will be great. What you want, a HD production. Im glad it looks like it does. Congrats, BKYLE!!!!
It really is almost hard to watch because of the quality. The BGM was too loud for me to understand anything being said.
How long did it take to create this? Maybe if you take more time on making this something the very best it can, it What do YOU think of your work? How would you respond to someone presenting this to you?
Not trying to come off negative. I am a big fan of Jay Dee and if someone makes a doc or video on him that reflects on his life it MUST be done right.
@MilesTrane21 that last joint is the hidden track on QTip's "Amplified" lp. it wasn't in the liner notes but I always knew that was a Dilla track. the whole song is great. I haven't came across it on youtube yet tho.. peace.
No disrespect, but the production value of this trailer better not be an indicator of what we should expect from the whole thing. Dilla is a King, and anything with his name on it better be of the HIGHEST quality. House Shoes and Ma Duke do not play around when it comes to Dilla- I know this for a fact. I'm also a film maker, so I want to see you win, but my first impression isn't to good. Godspeed
@G85dtimes Agreed. Respect Dilla's legacy and get some people who know anything about production. The graphics are awful, audio mixing is terrible. Barely watchable.
@ncstateofmind No ones complaining. I made a simple observation that 21 other people agree with. And I did enjoy it! @ uniqueterror Filmmakers don't get passes just because they're Okayplayers. I'm glad he was given the opportunity, and I'm glad the final product was better than the trailer. Much respect for B. Kyle. Great footage @TheReasonableLogic I actually do listen to the "highest quality" music: they're called Mp3, Mp4, and WAV files. And I STILL buy music...
@G85dtimes You have to understand that B.Kyle isn't just someone off the street that decided to put together a random Dilla documentary. He's a documentarian for okayplayer and was sanctioned by BBE to produce a film on Dilla's life for 'The Shining' CD. From what I remember, there wasn't enough time to put it together by its release. I'm happy he got to finish it and release it, especially in time for Dilla Week. Instead of complaining over a 240p trailer, you should as well.
@G85dtimes At least the dude had the decency to even attempt to release this. Do you listen to the "highest quality" music? It "quality" doesn't really matter.
@G85dtimes seen the full documentary on vimeo. shit is ill and mad raw footage. shit was shot right after his funeral in 06' lol and a lot of the footage is from early 2000s. Thats why sum of the video quality isnt up to 2011 technology. but i respect it cuz the producers kept it raw jus like Dilla Dawgs beats...jus sayin

@TwaAizZ A lot of the Stones Throw crew were at the service actually (I spotted PB Wolf, Oh No, J Rocc, MED).
I'm just saying that it would have been nice to have a few of them featured like Common, Q-Tip, House, etc were.
