Um it says he didn't bring cameras so that's just one of his other jumps, no? So that makes this just a video of his good dude and Chris Collinsworth talking about what happened right? Very boo.
"I know that my good bro is dead". Quite an epitaph. Pushing the envelope, having a "life wish" or whatever other dumbass name you want to give it is fine when you are 23 and don't have responsibilities, very Hemingwaysian. This self-centered twat had a child to love and raise. I guess its up to the "village" to do that now. Nice.
Heroic? Jumping off a cliff just to experience the adernaline rush is heroic? Okay, whatever trips your trigger. I think most people have a bit higher standard for heroism other than being an adrenaline junky and self sacrifice for the sake of others is a mandatory requirement.
Are you kidding me? 21 people liked the comment implying that this guy is not a real man? Of course he didnt want to die. He was following his passion in life.
More power to the ones Chasing Their Dreams. Stay true to yourself and let the haters hate.
At least he died doing something he loved. Me, I'd rather die doing something I loved than sitting on my ass at home when im 90 years old on the couch.
I met Dan many times in the early 80's and he was lucky to live as long as he did. I think there is something missing mentally in people who completely trust their lives on rock holds or do or die equipment. I have fallen dozens of times even on easy routes from rocks breaking that I had used a 100 times. So many great guys push their luck till it fails. Basically they are killing themselves every time but the gun lands on an empty chamber and they spin the cylinder and go again.
Darwinism at it's most blatant. If he cared so much about his daughter, then why continue such a risky lifestyle? Do it for the high? Then hes no better then crack parents who put their owns needs in front of those who actually need them.
I wouldn't go as far as to call people like this heroes, definitely not. I would however go as far as to call him extremely brave. I admire the hell out of rock climbers, I certainly couldn't do it.
@PackerBronco This guy lived everyday on the edge. He probably started this long before his daughter was around. Dan lived every day to the fullest. We should be so lucky to be able to chase our dreams so completely as he did. I hope his daughter never hears people like you and I hope that she chases her dreams just like her father.
Really? Let's say a person's dream is to be a stock broker. That's what the person really loves. Not your cup of tea, but it's his. Now, let's further speculate that he loves it so much that he works late, persues his interest and dies of an eary heart attack. No one here is going to say, "good for him, he died but he was doing what he loved." They would say "what a heartless b*st*rd". You admire the stuff this guy did, I get that; but that doesn't make it a noble death.
Era totalmente impresionante lo que asía, sin dudas!!!...pero como en todo deporte de riesgo se esta jugando con la vida propia cada segundo...era un fenómeno de otro planeta...el mejor escalador de todos los tiempos, murió en su ley
There's nothing heroic about doing suicide jumps. Sure, the guy did things that 99.9999999% of the world population couldn't do in a million years.....but why did he have a death wish? Was he put on this eart to live a short life tempting death every day?
Why did he have a child...knowing he had a death wish?
@RapIsDeadly it's not a death wish it's just a need to do something i know the feeling doing nothing will drive me insane i always have to try and do stuff that just give you a rush that make you feel good for hours afterwards. A long life spent safe is not as well lived as a short life spent at the max :D
Thats the way these guys live EVERY DAY.They are in a strange way HEROIC for doing things that make others believe anything is possible. If there is a heaven hes there.Showing angels what its really like to fly. This man will always have respect in my home.
What extreme sports participants do on their time is their business. More power to them. But doing this, knowing there is a high risk of death, while having a family with young children is idiotic and selfish. And any one who would support this over family first is an idiot as well. So stop with the retarded "we experience life to the fullest" comments.
No hero ,no brains. A record for what? No dad for a selfish goal. Very stupid thing to do. I feel bad for the little girl left behind. Let this be a wake up call to all those other selfish people pursuing aimless dreams that matter not. What a waste/
@lewandlo He pushed the envelope of human achievement and kept the gene pool sharp and top notch. If we left it up to couch sitters like you we would be in devolution. He lived more in 1 hour than you will in your whole life.
@lewandlo It was an accident man, you can't predict this kind of thing the guy loved his daughter you act like he intentionally left his family behind chill out bro.
sry but this is just retarded! it makes me angry to see how easy some people throw their lives away :( and im asking myself just one question:" why?" why couldnt he atleast have a parachute ! :( :(
One more demo of Darwin's theory. @fallenskater I was going to ask the same question when I saw the title. Got to pity his daughter and all of his family.
It was incredibly just unutterably stupid for him to have jumped on ropes he had left out there for 3 weeks. They could have been weathered. They could have been tampered with. They could have been stressed too much from the last jump. No matter what it was, they failed and he died and it was incredibly stupid.
I'm pretty sure his mentality was " if its your time then it's your time". I admire this guy a lot. Just by listening to him speak, he seems like a down to earth guy. R.I.p brotha
Well, I for one don't care to encourage my time to come by doing things like this. I'm not saying others aren't free to, but safety should always be top priority and jumping with ropes that have been left up for weeks is just stupid and unsafe.
It may well be a deficiency in a particular brain enzyme that engages circuit breakers that keep one from taking these risks. A slight deficiency leads to roller coaster rides. A serious deficiency can lead to mountain climbing ! My circuit breakers are strong, locked ! I may live into my 90's, but that also depends on several other factors.
"Dan was found dead, lying "peacefully" on the canyon floor....." yeah right..probably turned into cream. The truth is Dan was a psycho... and he fucked up.
