What would be the point of that? If you're doing a remake, you might as well take it into a new direction rather than making a watered down version of the same old thing like with the TCM and FT13th remakes.
Actually there are three main producers which are Brad Fuller and Andrew Form and Michael Bay and executive producer is Robert Shaye and Robert Shayes has produced every Elm Street film ever made. Also Michael Bay owns the company Dunes he created it way back and Samuel Bayer is the director of A Nightmare On Elm Street remake. Micheal Bay personally picked Samuel Bayer to direct the remake because he felt that Samuel Bayer was only director that could capture the darkness of Elm Street.

Thats true however Michael Bay is owner of Dunes and his company are ones who make films for him thats why hes listed as a producer. Michael Bay is also huge fan of Elm Street which is why he put up a 27 million dollar budget on the remake.

Haven't the sequels already drained the franchise? They basically made Freddy into a cartoon character. I'm a fanboy, so I love it, but I'm trying to be objective. You have to admit that the series has been going downhill (in the critical sense, anyway) since the compromised ending of teh 1st film.

Please don't screw this movie up as well. The other recently re-made or re-imagined horror films have done nothing for me. Freddy Kruger has always been my favorite horror franchise villain so I am hoping that this film is not a slap in the face to the original. With any luck it will surprise me.

There are some average ones like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween or Friday The 13th even though that one felt like a sequel then an actual remake.

He's just the producer. The one directing is the guy who did Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video along with other music videos.
I wasn't originally too keen on the prospect of a remake, but Freddy was already destroyed in the sequels (which I like).
It looks a lot better than what I thought it would. It may be bad in some aspects, but I saw a behind-the-scenes look, and it looks badass.

Actually there are three main producers which are Brad Fuller and Andrew Form and Michael Bay and executive producer is Robert Shaye and Robert Shayes has produced every Elm Street film ever made. Also Michael Bay owns the company Dunes he created it way back and Samuel Bayer is the director of A Nightmare On Elm Street remake. Micheal Bay personally picked Samuel Bayer to direct the remake because he felt that Samuel Bayer was only director that could capture the darkness of Elm Street.

Haven't the sequels already drained the franchise? They basically made Freddy into a cartoon character. I'm a fanboy, so I love it, but I'm trying to be objective. You have to admit that the series has been going downhill (in the critical sense, anyway) since the compromised ending of teh 1st film.

Jackie Earle Haley brings a depth to all of his character that plays including Rorschach and many other roles he plays! He has played Freddy in remake with seriousness of like the original Freddy! Please don't screw this movie up as well. The other recently re-made or re-imagined horror films have done nothing for me. Freddy Kruger has always been my favorite horror franchise villain so I am hoping that this film is not a slap in the face to the original. With any luck it will surprise me.

Not all horror remakes suck. What about these? The Thing, The Fly, The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Cat People, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Toolbox Murders, Hills Have Eyes, 2001 Maniacs, House on Haunted Hill, My Bloody Valentine 3D, The Ring, King Kong and Last House on The Left? excellent remakes. There are some average ones like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween or Friday The 13th even though that one felt like a sequel then an actual remake.

Again, people see whatever they are shown. They see the movies that filmmakers do, they don't see movies that are not made. If you make a great movie, people will see it, if you make a shitty one, they will see it too.
People hear "new" and say "I want it".
That's why being a filmmaker it's a privilege. They have the power to educate people, to put things into their brains. And it makes me so sad to see that people like Michael Bay doing what they do. They just don't give a damn about anything.

If it sucks terribly who cares, the old ones aren't going anywhere. And if it's good (which I think it wil be because Jackie is win) it will be an awesome addition to my collection. Robert doesn't support the remake. He's involved in Never Sleep Again, the new documentary about the real nightmare movies (this one not included of course), which means he's being truthful to Freddy and to the real fans, not like you.
