alright herez da factz.... in 1828, Peter Turner(Methodist) arrived in Samoa but didnt set up a mission til 1835 becuz Methodism spread from the established mission in Tonga, then came John Williams in 1830 who started the first Christian Church in Samoa, the EFKS/CCCS in Sapapalii accepted by King Malietoa Vainuupo, and the Catholics came in 1848 and converted the village of Sale'aula after countless denials becuz of the propaganda sent out by LMS and Methodists... so yea thatz history fo ya
looks @ Scorpio Amen to that ... EFKS however well was first just a correction in historical dates ..1830 John Williams ...Sapapali'i Savai'i ..recieved by Malietoa Vainu'upo ( Western Samoa's case )lol ...but yes we all believe in ONE GOD... amen to Scorpio.
nah yeah i agree@2400blocc...being Catholic myself ...LMS has the biggest followers in both Samoa's followed by Catholic...it makes sense esp in Samoa i Sisifo ..where LMS was the first church to arrive and Catholic's arrived much later after both Methodist and EFKS had established itself in both islands but Catholics did well lol ...
I dont want to debate this issue because Samoa is a 100% religious island. But I agree with you, Methodiist arrived first in the island in 1828 by way of the Tongan missionaries hence "lotu tonga" but just to one village and converted a few along the way. Second, was Catholics in 1846 landed at Lealatele Village which is now "Leauva'a". Third, Church of Latter Day Saints in 1888 and later on EFKS. but as long as both islands believe in GOD thats all that matters. We all worship ONE God.
These sounds and images bring back memories of growing up in American Samoa where my grandparents Nikolao and Kolotita Filipo were catechists for the Church. The Samoan Catholic Church is very beautiful. Jesus is truly present in His Church.
This will make me sound really stupid (being part Samoan and all). I honestly never knew about Catholic Samoans. All I knew about were Pentecostal, Mormons, etc.. I would like to know what percentage of Samoans are Catholic? This is all new to me. But this was beautiful footage!!
lol algud for the question okay from what i knw the three biggest churches -correct me if im wrong are- due to membership size in SAMOA that is lol 1) EFKS ( Christian Congregational Church of Samoa) -being the largest church 2) Ekalesia Katoliko i Roma Samoa ( Roman Catholic Church Samoa 3) Ekalesia Metotisi i Samoa (Methodist Church of Samoa). those are the main three i knw of followed by the other churches sorry hope that helps in some way
