Poison had a 69% chance to fail vs GM Resist and Cure was also uninterruptible. By the time you got one to stick, you'd be way behind in life. Nobody wore armor because it affected the ability to Meditate. You can still play this era at UO Second Age.

The warrior came alive. GM healing, GM poison with Auto UO and 10 GM katana's in the pack with Deadly on all of them. Change up in mid-battle. Yeah I know you think that hallys were good, but anyone with any knowledge at all used either a kat or a kryss, but you can't poison a kryss. Ting, ting, ting, dead.

Nowadays´s people don´t get impressed with UO (2D, graphics) but in those years it was the best we had, and it was a very addicted game (I remember playing it in my Pentium III 350Mhz, Riva Tnt 16MB and 64MB Ram, and my Internet connection was like 56kps), Its was a good game, and for me it was my intro in MMORPG, after UO I went to Lineage, where pvp and pk was awesome =)
UO Lives! Come check out Retribution, it's a freeshard that's exactly like old skool UO, circa 1999-2003. It's awsome, well ran, and lots of players already. I play everyday. Just google uo retribution and follow the steps to get it. It's free!
UO might not be very flashy but I still cant believe how addicting and fun it was. I thought it was choppy when I first logged on but I gave it a shot and within the hour I was addicted and basically have never been more addicted to a game like this one. I played EQ, DOAC, COH, FFVI, SB, and more but I always missed UO and the way it used to be before they changed it. I think the Age of Shadows was the last draw and I never went back.
@nexus1g Not to mention the fact they had long since fixed the Swing Animation issue which allowed for massive precast Abuse burst spiking on Sword(Hally) Mages.
@ch0biq In 1999 the double-hit and insta-hits were in existence. The swing animation issue was that the swing of slower weapons could be dodged by running away from them. That's why insta-hit was put into play. The double hit was saving up the swing timer (based on wrestling speed) for the insta-hit then equipping the weapon and waiting out the weapon timer. If you were to swing at your opponent just before or at the time the weapon swing timer was up, you'd hit twice in a short period.
@panzertrance i dunno man I started in dec '99 and I remember them getting added right before I gmed archery (I'd guess it took me 4-6 months)...I think they put the moves in for maybe a month at most..then took them out to rebalance cuz of the release of tribal spears.... randomly activated like maybe 10% hit proc. I remember longspears had an "armor ignore" proc, and archery had "perfect shot" with..i think all the bows. not trying to argue, just stating what I remember from back then. :)

But turning UO into a Diablo/Everquest ripoff ruined the game. @cocopuff641 Not in 1999. The red bone armor was heavy armor. You'd never see a mage wearing it. You'd never see a mage wearing armor at all. Ice white hair dye didn't come about until Rennaisance. The closest thing to it prior to that was a pretty white hair dye from Clean up Britanniam but not neon.
I remember when magic arrow was bugged and you could come flying around a corner and wipe someone out with it. I miss old school UO there was nothing like it :)

Old school! still remember magic arrow, energy bolt, flamestrike and rune over with a halberd. Or paralyse, energy field behind him , wall of stone on him and energy voltex in front of him lol. but the best combo i like is inv 3 dragons on guard mode and gate to pks with magic reflect gears on myself. pks drops in 1 sec when they attack you. then "release all" lol.

Game is still pretty fun, duels are imo better now takes more skill you need timing eccttt this shit seems to slow, but pure mage duels are the only balanced thing on UO right now but everyone sucks at it XD

Nowadays´s people don´t get impressed with UO (2D, graphics) but in those years it was the best we had, and it was a very addicted game (I remember playing it in my Pentium III 350Mhz, Riva Tnt 16MB and 64MB Ram, and my Internet connection was like 56kps), Its was a good game, and for me it was my intro in MMORPG, after UO I went to Lineage, where pvp and pk was awesome =)

UO might not be very flashy but I still cant believe how addicting and fun it was. I thought it was choppy when I first logged on but I gave it a shot and within the hour I was addicted and basically have never been more addicted to a game like this one. I played EQ, DOAC, COH, FFVI, SB, and more but I always missed UO and the way it used to be before they changed it. I think the Age of Shadows was the last draw and I never went back.

@ch0biq In 1999 the double-hit and insta-hits were in existence. The swing animation issue was that the swing of slower weapons could be dodged by running away from them. That's why insta-hit was put into play. The double hit was saving up the swing timer (based on wrestling speed) for the insta-hit then equipping the weapon and waiting out the weapon timer. If you were to swing at your opponent just before or at the time the weapon swing timer was up, you'd hit twice in a short period.

@nexus1g yeh I think concussion blow and the other passive moves (anyone remember "perfect shot" for archery?) came out in like the spring of '00?
good stuff though either way. I've watched this video several times to reminisce.

@panzertrance i dunno man I started in dec '99 and I remember them getting added right before I gmed archery (I'd guess it took me 4-6 months)...I think they put the moves in for maybe a month at most..then took them out to rebalance cuz of the release of tribal spears.... randomly activated like maybe 10% hit proc. I remember longspears had an "armor ignore" proc, and archery had "perfect shot" with..i think all the bows. not trying to argue, just stating what I remember from back then. :)

@squirrelbong That does make sense, I played as soon as second age was released and I thought that the procs added to weapons were fun, especially spears =D. But turning UO into a Diablo/Everquest ripoff ruined the game. Thank you Origin for being greedy and selling a wonderful franchise, and thank you EA for being a people pleaser and fucking the entire UO community up it's ass with a indestructible gnarled staff of vanquishing...

@cocopuff641 Not in 1999. The red bone armor was heavy armor. You'd never see a mage wearing it. You'd never see a mage wearing armor at all. Ice white hair dye didn't come about until Rennaisance. The closest thing to it prior to that was a pretty white hair dye from Clean up Britanniam but not neon.

Old school! still remember magic arrow, energy bolt, flamestrike and rune over with a halberd. Or paralyse, energy field behind him , wall of stone on him and energy voltex in front of him lol. but the best combo i like is inv 3 dragons on guard mode and gate to pks with magic reflect gears on myself. pks drops in 1 sec when they attack you. then "release all" lol.
