you don't become anything. if your student becomes a grandmaster, then he is no longer your student and you're both grandmasters. or you relinquish your title to your student and you are no longer a grandmaster. some styles can have more than 1 GM, some can have only 1

there is nothing higher than grandmaster.

well actually there are some Ninjitsu styles that have higher titles than grandmaster, but the meaning of those titles are complicated and vary with each style
