  • I actually sing this song for my daughter as a lullaby...

  • TEEBS <3

  • KJG Fans please check out my music, im PUPSKI from AUCKLAND, NZ. Could use the support :) thank you x

  • good¡ que buena música¡

  • I will never understand why people post abusive comments. If you find the treatment of this song offensive you can just leave. The majority of murder ballads originate in the UK, Pretty Polly finds its roots in Gosport, Hampshire.

  • does anyone have this mp3...? this song is beyond awesome. :)

  • @leeleec27 get the taxidermy album! its beyond awesome

  • what the f--- is this? I suggest you toked up unknowing limp wrists take that pipe out of your hands and tune in Patty loveless above to know how this is SUPPOSED to be done, earth calling, hello anyone in the hello, guess there is no one there, tap tap tap hello, never mind Dr. Ralph, there is no hope, look what is coming out of Trashville today anyway, lets go home, there is no hope.

  • ssss...uuuu,,,,cccc...kkkk.....ssss

  • beautiful!!!! <3

  • amazing song!!!!!!!!!

  • @Lyco499499 "I'm a teacher, and have a dyslexic boyfriend and a dyslexic brother, i know EXACTLY what it is, and all the forms it takes, so you can shuv it! to be frank. People see 'lazy' misspelt words"

Uhhhhh .... you misspelled 'misspelled'. Also 'shove' is spelled as such, and not as you tried. I'm not even going to touch on your atrocious grammar.

Great way to lead by example and not make an ass of yourself!

  • all you say is true. she is a blanket for one more none the less.

  • Dock Boggs kicks her ass

  • @toweringmatt if you dont like it FUCK OFF! no one here wants to know we want to listen to this beatiful talented musician

  • @calypsosreflection And by beautiful and talented you mean woman who screws with rich mountain music to make a buck

  • @toweringmatt what a loser you must be, not even worth commenting on

  • @toweringmatt Right, because it's unthinkable that a musician would cover another musician or that they would produce music for profit. Moron.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx You're right, its not unthinkable that some hippie will corrupt an American treasure to make some money. All these artists do is take a good song and make it into some unique piece of crap that hipsters, desperate for attention and to be unique, will jump at just because everybody else can see that it is terrible.

  • @toweringmatt I prefer Queen Adreena's version to all the others I have heard, so it was hardly a "corruption" in my view. But then you seem like one of those people who believe your own tastes to be objectively valid, so there's no point in trying to reason with you.

  • @toweringmatt Do you even know what a hipster is?

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Here we go. Enlighten me.

  • @toweringmatt Hipsters are a subculture of people who think they're opposing popular culture by being ironic...there is nothing whatsoever ironic about Queen Adreena or their style of music.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Ok, you've got me there. Hipsters don't buy her music at all. Doesn't refute my point that she is corrupting an Appalachian treasure. And I know that many of the songs that come from the mountains came over with western European immigrants.

  • @toweringmatt As I already said, "corruption" here is subjective since there are people such as myself who prefer Queen Adreena's version.

  • she's not "slutty". she's fucking beautiful and artistic.

  • @toweringmatt i do have quite the hippie name.

  • this song is sexy. Fact.

  • @Lyco499499 I'm a teacher, and have a dyslexic boyfriend and a dyslexic brother, i know EXACTLY what it is, and all the forms it takes, so you can shuv it! to be frank. People see 'lazy' misspelt words when they're actually dyslexia, it's people like you that hold them back saying that they're just thick and lazy, rather than opening your eyes and seeing that they actually have the gift of dyslexia! It's people like you that made my the lives of my boyfriend and my brother hell at school!

  • also sorry for doing on such an amazing vid......... I just hate grammar natzis

  • Dispite all the arguements on every video i click on, i love this video. :)

  • AWESOME !

  • Saw these at Leeds Festival years ago n they blew my mind away.Awesome live.Been a fan ever since.

  • This sucks!

  • Muac I love you¡¡¡

  • I really enjoy how dark the lyrics are and how the sound is sort of messy and distorted. It's very seductive and keeps you guessing.

  • @BrainDeadIntellect you nailed it. that's exactly what i think when i listen to this one.

  • For fucks sake, she's killed a grand song.

  • @whelhosses and you killed the English language.

    You are both even now.

  • @apneatique ...his spelling and grammar was mostly accurate...

  • @Hamgammy No it wasn't...

"She's killed a grand song" is incorrect... It should be "She killed a grand song".

The "is" is doing nothing there... Unless it would be "She's killing a grand song" although that wouldn't make much sense since that refers to an action in the present...

Then again, English isn't my first language... But I'm pretty sure that She's killed is wrong.

  • @apneatique can't you use she's as "she has"? or is that just informal English....

  • @Hamgammy Good point... I completely forgot about that case (I always write she has... only in rare occasions I use 's because I don't feel comfortable. Fear of making a grammar mistake)

    My bad. Sorry..

  • @apneatique If there was less people like you nit picking people's grammar then you probably wouldn't be as scared of making a mistake. Hate people who nit pick grammar, most of them have terrible grammar themselves.

  • @XOooALEXooOX Sorry for wanting to respect the english language... Yes, let's all assassinate it... I do an effort not to make grammar mistakes (English is not my first language) so I expect the ones that have it as their first language to do the same. If you don't like it too bad.

  • @apneatique 'respect the English language'-respect my Yorkshire heritage (i.e. terrible Yorkshire grammar)

'assassinate it'- 'can't' use to be incorrect but due to its wide use was accepted, just like will happen to a lot of current 'assassinations'. Why assume this is 'incorrect English' when due to freedom of speech we can just class it as a new language.

You can't expect people to speak perfect English just because they happen to be born in England-freedom of speech-I'll talk how I want

  • @XOooALEXooOX "speech we can just class it as a new language."

    Really?!

So if I start typin ly dis it ould b a new languadge?! We must warn all those kids that write like assholes so they can start a new language, maybe a country too :O

I apologize for my mistake but yes I am a grammar nazi.. Don't like it?! Go create your own language and I'll shut up, otherwise we can argue all we want that is not gonna change :)

  • @apneatique freedom of speech- one of our human rights- try and take it away, its actually illegal, so go shuv. BTW i know many 6'4'' >20stone dyslexics that would LOVE to have this debate with you. I love my bf and will fight for his dyslexic/speech impediment ass to write and say stuff EXACTLY how he wants, because it's his HUMAN RIGHT!

  • @XOooALEXooOX There's a difference between being dyslexic and being lazy. Shortening words for the hell of it, just to save a milisecond or two is just patheticaly retarded. My spelling and grammar suck these days, grammar because I never really got to grips with it, and spelling since I spent a few years on drugs, and no, not weed, I'm not a child who thinks smoking weed makes me bad ass. I did a ridiculously stupid thing and got addicted to heroin. So I know what lazy is.

  • I love her. This always gives me the chills.

  • ralph staley is way better

  • very sensual voice..Love it

  • Absolutely beautiful! QueenAndreena made a good work over this ballad :)

  • @singmeluv , I know the real melody of this song, i.e. Ralph and every uncle I have that plays bluegrass, lol. (From WV on the trail). I think this is neat, different for sure and most likley not Ralph or uncle approved but I take my music to some extremes too :)

  • This is the greatest comment ever :)

  • they came to jbs dudley around 2002 i think i was a bit wasted but awesome performance, sang without any backing instruments and threw a chair at the lead guitarist lmao!!

  • so nice

  • I love her prostitute pose on her sofa chair. She's

no vampire. That's the shit going around today, the vampire diaries bullshit.

  • thank you, fuck vampires especially romanticized vampires.

  • what a skank

  • Ooh KatieJane come to me!! (: Such a beautiful, sensual song.

  • It reminds me of Nick Cave's Bunny Munroe. There was a serial killer in the story, than media started to talk about Manson again... It's madness, everything around seem to be signs... and this song hounting me over. Damn it. I got paranoic and suspicious while sitting with a stranger in one room. BTW I wished i could see Katie live but she'll never come to Poland... :/

  • Same here... I doubt she'll ever visit Sweden and it saddens me greatly :(

  • @InterStellah też bym chciała jej koncertu w Polsce

  • Saw these at Leeds festival a few years ago n was blown away.Bought the Taxidermy album n have been a fan ever since.Katie Jane has both an Angelic and Satanic sounding vocal range.Truly awesome.

  • Beautiful<3

  • this sounds like a story to me. like a horror movie, but sadder. its beautiful.

  • Her voice sounds satanic to me.

  • i love it *___________*

  • Wow, what a list!

Even if everything you claim was true (which I rather doubt!), a performer/artist could be a total asshole, but still be a creative genius!

  • FREAKY!

  • Amazing.

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaam shes gorgoues and such gorgeouws music, reminds me of kate bush and cocteau twins, ive aways loved the kind of dreamy sond, but i never made the daisy chainsaw connection til 30 minutes ago, gong to get the albums now

  • lyrics & mood are mean & tight!

Deep & dark & dirty...This is Real Blues, man!!!

Wish there were more songs like this!

  • This is not blues. This is a 400 year old English ballad.

  • Yes, I'm aware it is literally not blues...! It was more a comment on the dark, melancholic mood of the song than, say, the lyrical content for instance (just my opinion!)

But what you say is interesting about it being a 400 year old ballad - didn't know that. Katie-Jane seems to take inspiration from a wide range of sources, which usually works well for her - and us, the listeners!

  • It is sung in the Appalachians. Brought over by British immigrants in the 17th century.

  • @SRone45 Its actually one of a collection of music collected in Scotland called the Child Ballads. You can look it up in Google. =)

  • Most likely it comes from the borderlands of Scotland and England.

  • Different,,,In a good way!

  • omg this used to be my fave song, brings back sooooo many memories <3

  • lovin it

  • bla bla bla ..i like it her voice is similar to the singer of radio heads, and her speach patterns share much in common with the doors...dont be a hater just cause she so elegantly slutty... kudos

  • AHAHAHA

    elegantly slutty

    hahahaha

    :D

    She's just beautiful AND talented

and not ashamed of her sexuality

    GO KATIE!

  • really nice

but..........mi potete spiegare perchè diavolo questa qui ha sempre chiappe o zizze al vento??!! vabè ke è figa..evidenemente si vende di più XD

  • <333 love her voice

  • P.S. Queen Adrina: This is a nice cover of one of my favorite songs. I liked your version of it. Pleasant and the girlfriend likes it as well.

  • Dude... the band didn't post the vid, they aren't gonna see your comment...

  • i love her

  • me too. <3

  • Never heard her before ... pretty good version. She has an evocative voice. Sandy Denny sang it for Fairport Convention in the '70s

  • To bad she didnt write or create it.. Its cover song of a entirely different music.. Bluegrass Mountain Music from "Doc" Ralph Stanley and the Clinch mountain boys.

  • Ahh I've been thinking about that, I heard a song awhile back singing about the same story but with different lyrics and a bit different music :) That's cool! Is it on youtube?

  • There's quite a few versions, I think as a result of it probably passed from one performer to another vocally, not by being written down. Some work better than others. This is great, in fact the whole album is.

  • I don't mean to sound rude or anything but Ralph didn't write it either. Pretty Polly has been around in one form or another for a couple hundred years.

  • That is very true Taylor.. Ralph and his brother brought it to the masses in the 1950's via the new modern invention called the TV. Prior to that it was one of those mountain folk songs that were past around. Funny how all the kids are trying to do covers of what they think is "Dave Mathews" song "Long Black Veil" to funny cause it was a old song done by "Lefty Frizzel" Everyone thinks its "Dave Mathews" song. That guy does the worst cover of that song. Its aweful.

  • @rmstudio Pretty Polly is one of the Child Ballads from Scotland and it is a murder ballad. Many people have taken several of the songs from the Child Ballads and turned them into several styles of songs. But they came from England, Scotland and Wales primarily. You can find more about the different Child Ballads by doing a google search on Child Ballads.

  • you are quite correct... Ralph did the best version, it's an old Scottish/Irish (when they were both indpepenant of England) song, based upon a real event...

  • @rmstudio It's an old English song, not American bluegrass.

  • ahhh, this song is beautiful :)

  • ...these are now transferred back into a shift of particles airborne that become liquid metal on contact with your inner ear and solidify in your brain.

  • Each word she sings and noise she makes is a precious metal liquidized, passing over, twisting around the vocal cords. The liquid metal then cools and she squeezes her lungs the hot air out in order to liquidize the metal again, this also causes vibrations causing the particles to free themselves again and move freely over the cords as if over a biological harp in her throat. The metal drips out of her mouth onto a spinning turntable and record her vocalizations in physical form...
