No, but helicopters do. If you stand still and a car drives past you at 30mph, it looks slow. If you drive past the same car, doing the same speed, in a car that's going 30mph, in the opposite direction, the car appears to be doing 60mph. Overtake the same car at 60mph, it appears to be going backwards. These effects are multiplied with differences in altitude, lighting conditions etc...

I (like many others) think this is a lantern. They can fly a mile high and the wick can burn for half an hour so with a decent wind it can travel a fair distance. There are loads of them now in the UK. Manchester airport has asked for a ban on them at Bonfire night. I think stuff like this is a best clutching at straws, or at worse disinformation.

dont know what that is but something i witnessed oct 4th 2009 i will never forget, shouldnt really be sharing ,info so keep it short. I saw what looked to be a lantern at first, but it was sitting still for 5 mins never moved dropping blobs of what can only be described as hot metal blobs! looked in unstable state fairly low to us! then after 5 mins propulsed its self to the heavens! I was living in Bedford at the time and it was midnight and i could see a police hellycopter flying above my house with a light sercoling it for ages then it shot off at speed over my head ever since i've beleved in u.f.o s .And seeing this footage has brought it all back to me . 2012

Whatever it is was going fast and the helicopter chased it for a few miles. The speed of it rules out anything being blown along by the wind. It a pity that some of the footage has gone.

The object isn't travelling fast. That is the panning of the camera fitted onto Police helo. You can clearly see the burning element of the Sky/Chinese Lantern in the footage. Check out the news Sky/Chinese Lanterns have been fooling people for years. Even Police observers! If you have never seen one then it is going to lead to all sorts of confusion.

I remember when this was on BBC local news - it was around august 2002. there was alot more footage than is here, appears what's left of it on the internet has been censored. In one of the filmed sequences it actually morphs in shape - not shown here. Also if you listen to police helicopter pilot said "we waited to see if they were going to give us a wave", the helicopter was hovering while filming in one sequence. Whatever it is it sure is weird.
