I want the rusted lance. I got 5 rust shards in the past day and they were all Iron Lance+'s, the game is purposely taunting meh.

It's so annoying:

1. Getting rustshards is hard

2. Once you have them, the chance they turn into a rusted weapon aren't very large

3. Even though you get a rusted weapon, it might be a weapon you never use (had it with 2 GS)

You have no Rustweapons ? have 3 Rusted weapons from 4 rustshards.

i went all out on the gathering bonuses, i not only put them on the armor, but also on my Tenebra and one of my gems that has 2 slots so 10 Gathering +2 ive got like +32 gathering woundering if this makes a difference im about to go make my first run so i guess ill find out, thanks alot for the vid, very helpfull =)

@cerberus856 sorry for the late reply (I dont use this channell anymore DonYawnful is the place to go now) But +32 does not matter haha. You only need to activate the +2 gathering to make it work to the fullest trust me.

you can also get rustshards as mission rewards. I beat a normal diablos (not advanced) and got a rustshard. It was a rusted greatsword, which was really lucky because i only use greatswords and longswords.

If you wear full leather (which has 5 gem slots) and gem in 2 gathering (not speed gather) jewels, and one whim jewel, you get gathering +2,divine whim, and speed gathering. If you want heat cancel (low), put 2 breeze jewels in the 2 open slots you have to then put 3 more into a 3 slot weapon. The easiest way to get a 3 slot weapon is using a bowgun.

This set up gives you 3 slots and can be made easily, but it isn't very useful for fighting.

Stock: Light bowgun

Any frame:

Barrel: Jaggid Fire

Also if you go online, Yuo'll have a 50% increase for rustshards, and maybe youll get lucky and get an anchient shard now and then! :) have fun and hope my advice helped. If you cant get online, then this is your only hope

My advice as an HR 999player and over 2,00 hours played. If your lookingfor rustshards, go online and do the roll the uroktor + quest. The uragaan is easy to beat so dont get scared. If you go online follow this guy's insructions on the route, also bring some bones and extra iron ore because your pick axes will break. But dont use Leather armor unless you have too. Try to get the Jaggi mask and leather + and then just add decorations to get his skills. The jaggi mask gives you goodluck, it helps

Just go online, get HR40 and you'll have 50% more chances of getting those Rusted Hammers, Swords and whatever the hell else than mining offline or with a low HR.

This shit is impossible to do with regular offline farming. I've gone through the place over 6 times in a row now, with +2 Gathering, Divine Whim, Spd Gather and all that. I've gone through ALL the rocks, and let area 5 respawn at least 3 times before getting frustrated and killing the last uroktor, AND get 1-3 green rock spawns. and NOT A SINGLE RUSTSHARD TO BE SEEN! Wtf am I doing wrong here? You got one with ease? I was getting a few, only a few, in the beginning, but now nothing.

When I farm these I have the Felyne mask for cha-cha and he always pulls out bombs in the area with melynx and felynes and just blows everything up and usually interrupts my mining it pretty funny

Actually, all nodes have at least a small chance of getting rustshards. The ones that you mentioned that can give you rustshards just have a higher chance.

@TheYawnYawn I know! and about 3 hours ago I was following the route in this tutorial and the same rock gave me 1 rustshard, the only shard I got that run and when I appraise it I ended up getting a Rusted Great Sword (but I REALLY want a Rusted Lance for Undertaker) I was disappointed but I ended up upgrading it to the second to last upgrade :P

That weapon is the Numbingbird a Querupeco and Gobul mixed weapon, if you make a plume Flint you can change i into that...

why does the little tune play when a rustshard is collected? I know if you collect an item that you put in your memo pad it makes a noise but i never put rustshard in there..and its a different little tune as well...is it a super rare item perhaps?

Actually. I just got a rust shard before (A lance in fact). I appraised it and got a rusted lance and thought: What the shit is this? And then sold it. Fuck my life.

I just finished doing that quest again and got ANOTHER rust shard. this time DIDN'T sell it. I went to the forgery and upgraded it using commendations and other materials to get a tarnished blade.

Now the next upgrade from the tarnished blade is an ancient blade that has SICKK stats. :DDDD

I only have one rustshard and I thought it was just a buncha sh!t I would never use but after I upgraded it from rusted sword to tarnished sword, it had "Eternal Strife"!!!

But seriously, if you can get it, get leather plus. It's got the same abilities as low rank leather, but they are the best of the abilities. Also, it has much more defense, so yeah.

I don't know how but i got 4 rustshards from 1 deposit and then another 2 from another. and carried on the run. at the end my Eval box was FULL of charms and rustshards. Its a great wayto get money as well as some reare weapons.

1 of the best tips for doing mining quests in volcano ... do roll the uroktor ... ofcourse and then when you are done with mining don't be stupid to kill (online mode) 20 uroktor ... just kill8 rhenoplus and end the quest by subquest

You can do this.... oooorrrr........ you can do the mini Uragaan event quest online,  "The Phantom Uragaan" , its an easy kill and when you mine there is always a rust shard but even if you don't mine you will get rust shards in the rewards =P
