tomcrackers: Over 97% Chinese people supported Beijing to hold the game! I wonder if those people who live in a few west nations truly understand democracy and human rights when they don't respect over 1 billion Chinese people's opinion. To majority Chinese people, those who were against Beijing Olympic just hide their cultural and racial bias and hatred and disguse their true faces by voising against Chinese government. Majority Chinese don't hate their gov. as some people think.
Brilliant!! A country that has many colonies, A country that genocided American natives, A country that brainwashed people living in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, A country of which police could shoot an innocent people just because they suspected he was a terrorist, A country that has cuased so many conflicts and troubles around the world..such a "great" country is going to host Olympic games??? Shame of mankind history!! Boycott London games!! Let's act in 2012!!
How could Brits expect others to be nice and respect them while they displayed such rudeless, racism and hatred when Beijing's Olympic torch passed London and when Chinese people just wanted a happy party? At least, Chinese were very nice to everyone. They showed much more class, grace, hospitality and they are a people with a true great civilization. New York should win over London for 2012 Olympics.
i agree, the chinese were fantastic hosts. but you can't help it in democracies, people should be able to say what they like. anyway, it's not like they hate the chinese people, far from it, it's that they dislike the regime. just like most people hate bush but does that mean we hate americans? no.
New York didn't win and shouldn't have won. The US has hosted the olympics whether summer or winter far too many times. An African or South American country should be next. Rio 2016!
Whenever an american or Brit display hatredm, racism, you will say its democracy, freedom of speech even if you agree they are not right.
But when a Chinese demonstrate against these racism, you will say that this is ultra nationalism. So when the US pruposely bomb the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, all Chinese who demonstrate their anger at the US embassly are tagged as ultra nationalists by assholes like you.
As much as I welcome the olympics to our City I dread the antisocial behaviour! As much as I love living here but feel we will be let down by the uncontrolable youths. More policing and stricter laws are needed to stop this ugly behaviour! Good luck with the developments,
And the committee splashed out 1.2 million quids for an 8-minute cheap show! Did it more look like Broadway or a rundown rooftop cabaret featuring the greatness of uk's gerontological health system or a representation of a poor value for money product enlivened by an out-of-date footballer?
A good logo should be as readily pleasing to the eyes as a piece of good chocolate to the taste.
The London Olympic Logo is edgy, jagged, lack of good character, misrepresenting, cloudy, an invition for vandalism. And it is a half-million pounds 'art'-work!
And cut out the bs about Beijing's expenses on the Birds Nest and all that. The Birds Nest takes over the functions of their 50 year-old and smaller Workers Stadium superbly. They have already lining up with
concerts, entertaining and sporting events.
When you look at London, it is a place where arena facilities are poorly planned. Berlin has a grand stadium which can cater for big events like the world cup and the Olympics.
Multiculturalism will be the ultimate end of Britain!
You are blinded by your politicians and by your media and your only concern is not to be called 'racist'. At the same time your island is full of millions and millions of negros and asians. Britons will only be a fading minority!
Britishness will be lost forever...
IF YOU DON'T ACT SOON, BRITAIN AS YOUR FATHERS KNEW HER, SHALL EXIST ONLY IN DOCUMENTARIES!
You are the voice and mind of so many people in this country. There is so many bad points to list that i just cant be bothered. Simply put it has gone to pot.
Of course those are absurd rhetorical questions. But those absurdities -- and the possibility which at least I anticipate of similarly absurd worldwide protests against Britian's "human rights" record in 2012 -- demonstrate how the perceived significance of the Olympics as a whole has degenerated perhaps beyond the point of redemption.
Are the British government and Britain's international trading partners representing the 2012 London Olympics as some kind of "coming out party" for Britain, which, if boycotted, would "hurt the feelings" of the British people? Does anyone expect the 2012 Olympic Torch to be taken defiantly through the Catholic areas of Belfast?
China wanted to show the world that it is the next superpower and can do things just as well as the west. The stadium and the opening ceremony was showing this. London does not need to do this as we are not the next superpower and do not need to make any statement other than "come to our country".
This stadium is 'crap' compared to the Bird Nest in Beijing! It's just too simple and really show a lack of ideas in its design! This reflects a decline in the West and rise in the East!
yeah but whats the point of london building a giant and expensive stadium like the birds nest when we already have massive stadiums and arenas.. the london olympic stadium is good as it takes in account of what will happen after the games....im guessing the birds nest stadium will be a waste of space from now on and will only be used a few times
@nakedtons08: It's not such a thing as 'decline' in the "west" - just a decline in London! You flunk it - you carry the responsibilties and shame with it. No one else. Who told you to bid for the games?
Barcelona, Sydney, Athens did it well. Even Italy, France and I am sure Germany will kick off the campaign in a much beter fashion than this London Olympic Committee.
it should have at least something to boast... something that the bird's nest dont have... its really hard to follow what herzog and demuron did for beijing
London doesn't the unlimited budget, totalitarian government, obedient masses or the will to dislocate people to replicate the Beijing games. And that's great. The London stadium will be great for its simplicity, efficiency, and post-games flexibility. There will be many fantastic athletic achievements in London in 2012 and that's what matters.
Beijing staged a truly fantastic spectacle with some magnificent and iconic buildings/stadia because they can afford it in terms of money and cheap labour. No Western country could possibly do what they did so why bother trying to better Beijing? Maybe this is the perfect opportunity to reel back in the ever increasing and out of control costs of staging an Olympics?
lol its just a stadium, who cares. What is certain is that the london games will be MUCH better than these chinese games, they have no atmosphere in china at all. London has so much culture packed into it that the stadium itself is rather inconsequential.
I find the atmosphere way better than any sporting games ever seen. All the "Go, China, go!" chants during the events really set the tune. Whats striking is however that they will also cheer for other countries as long as its sportsmanship.
Here in London, if your soccer team loses, riots break out...
the stadium looks fine it all looks more squished then alot of other olympic stadiums because london is highly expensive for land and stuff , the birds nest stadium in beijing looked a little dull in my opinion too
Let us not forget that this isn't really going to be Britain's main stadium. In my opinion Wembley holds that crown and that's one of the best stadiums in the world.
i was very disspointed with the logo which i find completely absurd n the stadium doesnt show any sign of innovation of any kind... does london not have any money to make something more extravagant or wat????
yes the stadium is not as creative as the birds nest, but u cant call it ugly, the stadium looks huge and looks better than athens one. does any 1 no how many seats it wil hold?
this vid tells you a lot about how this stadium will performe post olympics notice how the steel structures lumberd draging themselves to the site like some prehistoric monster like the dinosaur it will become
I think London Olympic Stadium dose look fantastic, but question here is how to build Stadium..can we finish on time. China spent 20 billion pounds,so after 4 years ...how much we can spend on LONDON 2012? Do we need new London underground? How can we cope many many people travel in London 2012?
This video is filled with all kinds of symbolism for a possible holographic staged event set for 2012. Look up videos and symbolism connected to the games and you might find some interesting facts... that is if your mind is open to that kind of knowledge. By the way, I am of sound mind, no tin foil hat, I have a girlfriend, and I do not live in my parent's basement. The numerology connected to the Olympics is astounding. Search for it... happy hunting.
Poor boy with the dragon.. he just wanted to play and then has to watch all these cool flags flying around.. how is he supposed to compete with his dragon.. just mean!
They should spend all the money help the poors and those in need of assistance and not wasting on hosting the Olympics which London does not deserve to be chosen. Withdraw the all their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan first before talking about hosting Olympics.

There is already a movement out there to boycott the "Genocide Olympics" in London 2012 for Iraq and to tie this with Scottish independence in 2010.
Heard London is scrapping the international leg of the Olympic torch relay. Can't really picture the London torch running through Muslim countries.

You know, despite whether or not the London Stadium will be just as good as the other stadiums, one thing is for certain..
There being a trend in criticizing china for the small flaws they have done during the opening ceremony, it's very hurtful..
but you know what?! the people of Great Britain love their country just as much as everyone else and its extremely rude to criticize their work.
The olympics cannot be used to solve every political social problem in the world so leave them alone!
