Joel provides very wishy washy answers...those in positions of preaching to people will be held even MORE acountable, according to scripture. Why isn't he reverently afraid?
Last time he was on a talk show he was very guarded in his answers and sure to mention the bible and throw out a few scriptures. None about Jesus dying on the cross for us and his love though. It all comes around to being between a stand up comedian and self help. Same with Joyce Meyer's and I believe the Catholic church to a point. They mention Jesus in passing but its really about the Pope,Mary and the show.

I was not sure about Joel Osteen, but I was open minded enough to attend a service and see for myself what he's all about, and I am so glad I did. I have never heard anyone preach like Joel Osteen. His messages are like food for the soul. He does nothing but help people feel good about their futures and build people up. I can't say anything bad about the man. He deserves all the success for all the lives he's helped through his healing and encouraging words

Joel Osteen is preaching truth, and all truth is from God, regardless of the amount of scripture included. I John 3:2-3 All humanity is changed by a revelation of Jesus Christ if indeed Christlikeness happens. Yes, a person can decide not to be. To argue context here is ridiculous. I John 1:1-4 Their is no relevant WORD without Christ. Jesus did not OFTEN focus on sin, unless he was addressing the teachers of the law. His focus was FAITH.
Romans 5:12 Sin entered THE WORLD through Adam, not HUMANITY. Death spread to all, because ALL sinned. This could not be any clearer. Why do you twist the scriptures to suit your agenda?
Eph 4:17 Paul is addressing PRECISELY why the Gentiles are ignorant. It is due to the “hardening of their hearts.” This phrase implies human choice, NOT a natural “cancer” from Adam. Your desire to add Adam is YOU, not the Bible.
Romans 6 teaches that believers are sinners by capability, but NOT by identity. The CLEAR message is that SIN is dead through the cross BY FAITH. “May it NEVER be” that we should sin. You can argue for residual ADAM-caused sin all you like, but in doing so, you NULLIFY the cross.
Psa 51: 5 does not refute Psalm 22. Psalm 22 in fact implies that David was speaking about the conditions from which he was conceived, namely a sinful relationship.

There is no evidence David was conceived within a sinful relationship. The context is David's present sin pointing back to his birth & conception.
Paul's whole point in Romans 7 is that he is released from the struggle of attaining the law by his flesh through death, THANKS BE TO GOD! THE STRUGGLE IS OVER by faith through death in baptism as addressed in Romans 6. A verse stating that nothing good dwells in “flesh” does not support a view of total depravity or a view that Christ is a smudge of goodness in a basically vile human who happened to receive Christ, nor does Romans 7:18 address the origin of "flesh."

Romans 7 should alert the legalistic Christian that if walking with God is a struggle it is most likely an orientation to work for righteousness instead of enjoying the rest of God through faith. But alas, the passage often used to justify such a struggle and the hideous bent toward law-based Christianity. Phil 2:12 refers to a human role in continuing one’s relationship with God, which has NOTHING to do with “doing the very thing I hate" or struggling to attain righteousness in the flesh.

Matt 7:11 is a comparison of people to God. Enough said. Matt 5:45 refers to the entire body of humanity as “evil and the good” and “the righteous and unrighteous.” The admonitions in scripture to avoid sin have to do with the vulnerability and weakness of mankind, which has been the fact since Adam, NOT man's evil nature. Adam and Eve WERE TEMPTED IN THEIR PERFECT STATE. Paul says in I Cor. 11:7 that man “is the image and glory of God.” He did not specify "redeemed man."

II Samuel 17:25 tells us that David's sisters were not daughters of Jesse, which is indeed evidence of a possible adulterous relationship. The Psalms are NOT a theological treatise, but are rather full of hyperbole, illustrated by the fact that David says two polar opposite statements, both meant to convey polar opposite emotions. Try putting ALL the Psalms in a theological framework and see how that goes for you (I.e., the reward for dashing babies against the rocks).

I Chronicles 2:16 tells us the names of David's sisters, who are Zeruiah and Abigail. II Samuel 17:25 says they were daughters of Nahesh, not Jesse. It is entirely possible that David was born of a different mother than the rest of his brothers. That is all. It is a side point regarding David, who in the moment was lamenting his entire life.

If anything, this passage reinforces the point of SIN in humanity by choice, not ADAM in humanity inherent. All "have turned aside" and have "become useless." I think he'd probably do better of a job being a psychologist or Christian counselor who will use scripture to help with regular old day-to-day stuff, but he doesn't seem much like a preacher... 'cause then what is he preaching? :|

You are absolutely right to call out Joel Osteen for selling the prosperity gospel. However, how can you know with certainty that you yourself have the full truth? There are over 30,000 Protestant denominations, all claiming to be following the Holy Spirit. How is one to know who's right?

I was not sure about Joel Osteen, but I was open minded enough to attend a service and see for myself what he's all about, and I am so glad I did. I have never heard anyone preach like Joel Osteen. His messages are like food for the soul. He does nothing but help people feel good about their futures and build people up. I can't say anything bad about the man. He deserves all the success for all the lives he's helped through his healing and encouraging words

Believers today do not know beans about doctrine and most likely won't receive it from a Pastor who doesn't know why Mormans are not born again. Joel Osteen is preaching truth, and all truth is from God, regardless of the amount of scripture included. Joel Osteen IS ANOINTED specifically in encouragement and hope, and HE DOES PREACH CHRIST AND THE CROSS. If he doesnt do it enough to please a critic, SO WHAT? @darthfocus The Bible does not teach that humanity is fundamentally depraved. The Bible teaches that humanity has sin, fully cancelled on the cross. A refection of God's GOODNESS exposes sin. The LOGOS cuts in the sense of revealing Jesus Christ, and it was not intended to be used as a beat down tool, nor is our Christian life an endless anal scope focused on residual "cancer" from Adam. Romans 6 teaches that believers are sinners by capability, but NOT by identity. The CLEAR message is that SIN is dead through the cross BY FAITH. “May it NEVER be” that we should sin. You can argue for residual ADAM-caused sin all you like, but in doing so, you NULLIFY the cross.
Psa 51: 5 does not refute Psalm 22. Psalm 22 in fact implies that David was speaking about the conditions from which he was conceived, namely a sinful relationship.

Paul's whole point in Romans 7 is that he is released from the struggle of attaining the law by his flesh through death, THANKS BE TO GOD! THE STRUGGLE IS OVER by faith through death in baptism as addressed in Romans 6. A verse stating that nothing good dwells in “flesh” does not support a view of total depravity or a view that Christ is a smudge of goodness in a basically vile human who happened to receive Christ, nor does Romans 7:18 address the origin of "flesh."

Romans 7 should alert the legalistic Christian that if walking with God is a struggle it is most likely an orientation to work for righteousness instead of enjoying the rest of God through faith. But alas, the passage often used to justify such a struggle and the hideous bent toward law-based Christianity. Phil 2:12 refers to a human role in continuing one’s relationship with God, which has NOTHING to do with “doing the very thing I hate" or struggling to attain righteousness in the flesh.

Matt 7:11 is a comparison of people to God. Enough said. Matt 5:45 refers to the entire body of humanity as “evil and the good” and “the righteous and unrighteous.” The admonitions in scripture to avoid sin have to do with the vulnerability and weakness of mankind, which has been the fact since Adam, NOT man's evil nature. Adam and Eve WERE TEMPTED IN THEIR PERFECT STATE. Paul says in I Cor. 11:7 that man “is the image and glory of God.” He did not specify "redeemed man."

II Samuel 17:25 tells us that David's sisters were not daughters of Jesse, which is indeed evidence of a possible adulterous relationship. The Psalms are NOT a theological treatise, but are rather full of hyperbole, illustrated by the fact that David says two polar opposite statements, both meant to convey polar opposite emotions. Try putting ALL the Psalms in a theological framework and see how that goes for you (I.e., the reward for dashing babies against the rocks).

I Chronicles 2:16 tells us the names of David's sisters, who are Zeruiah and Abigail. II Samuel 17:25 says they were daughters of Nahesh, not Jesse. It is entirely possible that David was born of a different mother than the rest of his brothers. That is all. It is a side point regarding David, who in the moment was lamenting his entire life.

Joel in essence has stated that the answer is not Jesus Christ. Rather, it's "being postive towards yourself, develop better relationships, embrace the place where you are." And Jesus Christ is an add-on. Jesus is not an add-on his Lord. And to not teach that message is a disservice to his congregation. Yet, if a Pastor is not legit, then what difference does it make. I think he'd probably do better of a job being a psychologist or Christian counselor who will use scripture to help with regular old day-to-day stuff, but he doesn't seem much like a preacher... 'cause then what is he preaching? :|

Don't get me wrong- this is not just an attack on Mr. Osteen. It's an attack on every preacher who walks around in thousand dollar suits, with diamond rings, preaching the gospel- the "good word" which was originally spread by a homeless man- Jesus- who wore robes and sandals- a man who said that it was "easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God".

You are absolutely right to call out Joel Osteen for selling the prosperity gospel. However, how can you know with certainty that you yourself have the full truth? There are over 30,000 Protestant denominations, all claiming to be following the Holy Spirit. How is one to know who's right?

His books are all best sellers this man is loaded with a capitol L. But that not really a sin. He would do better to not give his people only very weak messages, he is a Tony Robbins, tony robbins does not say he is preaching, he tell the truth about that. Joel should do so why is he so rich and popular?

Joel has said that he addresses his sermons to Christians, they already know about 'Christ came to save us from sin, death, hell, and the grave.' All you know of what Joel teaches is what you hear on the TV, and unless you are a member of his church, how would you know whether he teaches doctrine and theology? You need to do some research here.

@prn72271 I know that preaching about the cross can be offensive, but that is the fault of the preacher, not the message. The message is one of hope and forgiveness. The verse you referred to is just an example of the reason Bart Ehrman says the bible is the word of man, not of God. It is totally out of context with the rest of the Christian message.
