  • They go through all the trouble of getting two elephants and only bring one fucking mouse.

  • I think it's just about respect small animals, and Elephant will do the same with another small animals, show us another small animals to judge

  • The elephant have the poor brain.

  • That's an older elephant who's been socialized to humans, so it's naturally more mellow, but with a younger male in the wild, a freak-out is pretty likely. So call it confirmed, and be grateful you didn't get a real demonstration of an elephant going rogue.

  • I want Adam's duster.

  • i think the elephant knows that mouse is also a living thing and does not want to harm it because it is not a danger for him. we humans do the same with small animals when we see them. we do not want to squash them so we avoid just like elephant did with the mouse and i am sure he would do the same with other small animals if it can see them.

  • @Tonenciuc i agree with your statement

  • Elephants are not afraid of mice specifically. They are, like many other species, afraid of things they have not seen before. Circus elephans however, whom have seen mice before, are not afraid of them.

  • I'd rather say that elephants are social animals and prefer to give other animals their space. Also, maybe elephants are just as unaware of their size as dogs are.

  • hello

  • Hello. Noo. Why? 11 11 11 11 11 11

  • He's actually too merciful to crush him

  • I really hope that mouse that was crawling on that dudes face and in his mouth at the end wasn't the same mouse under that elephant shit lmao nasty

  • or maybe they hate the color white, lol.

next time try another color and another species, like a squirrel, a spider, platypus, duck, cats, lolcats...

  • I think its cause they are afraid the mice/mouse would go in there trunk and those evil bastards would try ! THUMBS UP FOR OTHERS !!

  • @snonicblue150 are you living in an emo island or something? They are completely normal.

  • How about that? Looks like "do elephants afraid of mice"!!!

  • @h057il3 I dont think its size per se, I would definitely prefer a six foot mouse to a six foot spider. Arachnids.. It might be size combined with difference in anatomy, but in elephants vs mice, theyre not all that different. You know, besides the huge tusks, tons in weight difference and japanese nose appendage :p

  • Was'nt scared just cousious,gentle giants!!!

  • @CeepWatchin or rather nice pop culture you have there, mister.

  • one of the coolest episodes ever!

  • 2:00 No....just...no. xD

  • Protip to survive in the Savannah:

To protect from elephants, take a mouse!

  • Elephants like Mythbusters more than mice xD epic.

  • ... poisenous snake, therefore they move.

The same result in this video, could have been acomplished with a puppy, or a radio.

Also, this is just bad "science", Doing this 3 or 4 times, is nowhere enough.

Also, they should have used other kinds of animals, or objects than just one mouse.

Elephants are not afraid of mice...

  • @Frederik95Kirk

Hate the way you wrote it down (negative), but you could be right on the "science"part. Mice seem to like Elephant pooh and they are know to transfer disease. Maybe they know ?

A Dutch zoo took in a stray kitten and placed it in the Elephant quarters to fend of the mice. The Elephants excepted it presence.Maybe they just dont like the little buggers ;)

You might say "well put a mouse there maybe the accept ! " true but it is strange isnt it ? ;)

  • I got the link from this from the website Videnskaben.dk (Something along science.dk).

They answer questions from their users, and this was one question.

They talked to several experts, and this is the short version of the answer:

    Yes and no...

An elephant is not scared of mice, at all.

However if they doesn't notice the mouse, but can hear it, they may get freaked out, and move because of one reason:

They aren't benefitting from going into battle, and for all they know, the noise was a....

  • elephants are pussies

  • @bostonewyork1 But large numbers of humans are also afraid of mice. So what's the point?

  • @typomanbros Yes. People who are afraid of mice are pussies. What's your point?

  • Elephant: "Plausible! I'm terrified!"

  • That is my request! Yeah! I wrote in to ask that question;) Sweet!.. Would like to have seen them use a brown mouse ..maybe next time? :) Cross

  • this just makes me love elephants even more

  • ja pierdole :D

  • He put the mouse in a piece of shit. And then put it on his mouth.

  • @Grimarani He's got dung fever ;) dont judge him lol

  • @Grimarani buahahaha

  • elephants know a pile of crap isn't supposto move, that poor guy was prob like wtf, I'll just go around

  • Plausible, not true. We don't and likely cannot know, why the elephant was cautious with the mouse.

  • @IDBTitanosaurus I've heard some theory that says elephants are afraid of mouse going up to their trunk. See how elephant at 0:08 pulls his trunk away.

  • Wow haha it's awesome

  • they're afraid the mouse will crawl up it's nose

  • they shouldve tested if elephants are afraid of a Minigun mounted on an SUV

  • Poor elephants. Such great creatures associated with the dumb Republican party.

  • هههههههههههههههه كفو يالفار

  • i love mythbusters!

  • Elephant 1 to Elephant 2

    ITS A TRAP!!

  • what if the elephant wasnt afraid of the mouse, would it just trample over it?

  • maby its scared it will get in its trunk

  • what pussies lmfao

  • why does the elephant sound like a horse?

  • mebeh the elephant is just trying not to harm teh mouse?

    or, the mouse is poisonous

    yeah....that's probably it

  • and for our next experiment, we'll shoot a fish with a gattling gun!

    How typical...

  • Why are there loon calls in the desert.. fuuuu

  • mabye he doesent want to step on it

  • im looking at the comments but soo many of them are to long.

  • 0:07 "WHAAAAT DA FUCK IS THAAAAT "

  • makes sense, humans are like 1000 times the size of a spider but people are afraid of them, and it's not becase we are afraid to step on them.

  • Im pretty sure the elephant moves away because mice tend to eat into their legs.

  • Oh. My. Goodness. Elephants ARE THE CUTEST ANIMALS EVER!!! I want to pet one's trunk!

  • I heard somewhere that they're afraid of mice not because of it being unusual, but because it's small and they don't want to accidentally step on it and kill it.

  • @megakid39 That makes the most sense to me too. Elephants are intelligent and kind creatures.

  • @merkaba48 I know right? Did you know that Elephants honor and visit their dead relatives?

  • Maybe they were just afraid of stepping on them?

  • lol what they dont realize is that the elephant was afraid of stomping on the mouse and killing it... he wasnt afraid of it... elephants are gentle animals they dont intend on hurtin other animals

  • @jimm3ron That's what I was thinking too. They were being careful, not afraid.

  • @jimm3ron That actually makes a lot of sense. However if they ARE afraid of mice, I would suppose it's for the same reason humans are afraid of spiders; because of the substantial difference in size.

  • @jimm3ron they are the second deadliest animal on the planet

    first: Hippo

  • @jimm3ron That's ridiculous. Have you ever seen animal planet? Elephants can be very violent and dangerous, specially when the males are in heat. I'm not even talking about humans provoking them, I mean with other elephants and other animals. I'm not saying they randomly attack. But the fact that they're "gentle animals" is not true.

  • @Nekawaii set your comments and your thought straight... you say something then you say im not saying 4 times... then you agree with me but not in an agreeing way... just dont bother posting comments

  • @jimm3ron My thought is straight. I was talking about your "gentle animals" comment. I didn't make a thesis out of ALL the comments you make about elephants. I simply stated the fact that the "elephants are gentle animals" is untrue. Don't take it personal, chill, dude.

  • @jimm3ron you clearly have never seen elephants attack other animals

  • @jimm3ron maybe, we'll never know. Unless we find a way to talk with elephants.

  • @jimm3ron You realize that elephants are actually quite aggressive in the wild?

  • they ARENT scared of mice -_- theyre scared of this random thing that looks like 1

  • How about they test the elephant with a small rabbit and see if it gets scared or not. It has nothing to do with the movement or the mouse, but something a live being in front of it and the elephant changing its direction.

  • Not much different than horses. I've worked with horses and even dissected a few. Their brain will fit your palm, yet they weigh 1200lbs and are packed with muscle and will spook at the smallest things unless they have been exposed to the thing over and over and become desensitized to it/them.

  • @Elul205770

... Elephants are some of the most intelligent animals, they can recognize themselves in a mirror, realize when a member of the herd dies, "revere" elephant bones by caressing them and being silent near them, use tools etc.

Their brains weigh about 5kg/11lbs and their intelligence is often compared to that of cetaceans and nonhuman primates.

It's likely they're just afraid the small animal is poisonous, or mice are a just a strange creature to them and they're being cautious.

  • elephants are black so yeah, it's going to be afraid of a white mouse

  • okay, maybe it's not totally true, but it's fun to watch! :D

  • Well I'll be damned.

  • Come on. This is so fake... The elephants are afraid because:

    1) wild elephants are not used to mice; in the zoo, they live together,

and 2) the sudden movement of the string and the hidding place being lifted, made the elephant retreat.

This video shows only that elephants are cautious animals!!

  • @kaalund89 I've never seen an elephant cautious to any other animal, in fact I've seen them chase other animals. Elephants also have poor eyesight, so they can't see a tiny thread of string, and the string was released five whole seconds before the elephant made the sharp turn. Last and certainly least, there are many mice in the African continent, even the veldts.

  • Adam Savage talked the origins of testing this myth and why it didn't get tested as much as it should have. Apparently they were trapped in South Africa trying to film sharks myths but couldn't because of bad seas. They needed to film something to justify staying down there so they came up with this myth to test. They went to the pet shop and then to the elephant preserve absolutely convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that they would leave with a flattened mouse. SURPRISE!

  • bullshit

  • Elephants are smart enough to avoid strange animals, unless they're cornered or have no choice but to fight. It makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint. They have nothing to gain from a confrontation, and some small animals, like certain snakes, can be poisonous enough to even make an elephant sick or die.

  • @logik316 Still funny though.

  • @logik316 Also, how can we (or they) be sure that what the elephants felt right there was fear? Maybe they didn't want to kill the poor little mousy by accidentally stepping on it. If I saw a mouse on the floor I certainly wouldn't be scared, but I would definitely step aside to avoid killing it. They should try this experiment with other small animals to see what happens.

  • @iWatchinTubes

But in nature the most common initial reaction to being suddenly confronted by an unfamiliar animal is to either get away from it, or fight it off. More complex behaviors based on curiosity and compassion don't come into play until one has first had a chance to observe and assess the situation for a moment to determine if there's any danger.

  • @logik316 LOL! From an evolutionary stand point? One can easily say the elephant's reaction to a tiny animal is the exact opposite of what would be expected if macro evolution were true.

  • @Watthiman Your "rebuttal" is nonsensical. And, microevolution is an absolute fact.

  • @inswoon I said MACRO not Micro. I don't think you even know the difference. There was nothing nonsensical about my response . It was not a rebuttal. There is a distinction. A rebuttal would include specific details , facts and a lengthy forum to challenge your position. Something you tube does not provide. I simply responded that this video presents a better case for the lack of evolution. It's hard to apply the marquee "The survival of the fittest" to a mouse!

  • Comment removed

  • @Watthiman Macro is micro plus time. Rebuttals don't need to contain details, merely a contradiction.

  • @inswoon Excuse me? Macro-evolution is micro-evolution plus time? Well, you've won! I have no "rebuttal" for your definition of Macro-evolution. So an example of micro-evolution in the automotive industry might be a Toyota and a Lexus.. Same foundation, but with minor improvements the Toyota becomes a Lexus. Now,according to your definition, given enough time, the Lexus would become a Mercedes.. or possibly a train or eventually a plane.. Given enough time anything is possible!

  • @Watthiman Cars aren't biological. The comparison, and your incorrectly assigned principles have no relation with evolution whatsoever.

  • @inswoon Well, actually everything evolves in this entire universe, not just biological entities. Why? Because it is not static, its dynamic.

  • @IAMNOTAHUMANINC Our original argument was microevolution - which is mutating allele frequencies.

  • @Watthiman Why would the Lexus have to evolve into a completely different car brand? Can't it just evolve into a better Lexus? Isn't that how evolution works? An attempt at perfection? A perfect Lexus would certainly not be a Mercedes, because it wouldn't be a Lexus anymore.

  • @IAMNOTAHUMANINC I was illustration the differences between micro-evolution (accepted as fact) and MACRO-evolution (most assuredly Not accepted as fact).. The Lexus would HAVE to change into another brand if macro-evolution exists. A change within it's own brand would be an example of micro-evolution. Darwin himself had increasing doubts as to the validity of his views and it is only micro-evolution , a small part of Darwin's theory, that has scientific support today.

  • @Watthiman Since we are using cars as an analogy...

Lexus is not a species, because within Lexus exist cars so different they cannot possibly be the same species. Lexus is a family. The IS300 is a specific species of a sedan, which partakes of the Lexus family. Like the primate family, monkey family or cat family, etc. The mustang is a specific species of mammal, which partakes of the mammal family. It is still part of the Equidae family.

  • @IAMNOTAHUMANINC Specific species of mammal which partakes of the Equidae family** lol typo

  • @Watthiman A specific kind of sub species of horse, is like a different year of Lexus IS300, or a Lexus IS300 with different options. Macro evolution is the result of micro-evolution.

  • Comment removed

  • @Watthiman And, his hypothesis only encompasses the elephants evolutionary lineage and not the mice. He simply mentioned it to state his position.

  • @logik316 sorry to contradict your expertise but that's not the real reason, elephants know that Mice run the universe; Fact: everyone whose read 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' knows this ... .

  • Y did he put the mouse on his mouth

    "Publicity stunt?????

  • @Touqeee

Because he could. At least he didn't do an Ozzie Osborne on the mouse.

  • could it be the elephants are just worried about a small animal running up their trunks???

  • one of the reasons is that they are afraid that mice may get into their trunks

  • i don't think that they are afraid, elephants are really careful with their feet and was probably scared of standing on the mouse

  • The mice is Al Qaeda, The elephant is the US.

  • I think it's worried about the mouse going inside its trunk?

  • Back away for thy holy mouse!

  • Um, I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but did he just touch a ball of DUNG?

  • good shit lol

  • The mouse did well not to shit itself I reckon.

  • Elephants, as a rule, as freaked out by things they don't know or understand. Give a mouse and an elephant a few hours together and they just ignore each other. I think if you showed an elephant a remote control car, it'd be scared of that too

  • While this is a really interesting and fun experiment, I don't think that it is 100% sound on the part of science. Firstly, they never defined in detail what fear is so there is a lot of misinterpretation on the part of the viewer. Science is a precise thing with very thorough definitions, you can't really say surprise and try to pass that off as fear. If I was walking and I saw a mound of shit roll over and a mouse come from under it, I would walk around it too and not because I'm afraid.

  • don't you mean ARE elephants afraid of mice? lol

  • is a mental state, no small enemies, is the same as a human be afraid of a cockroach, an insect-specific, or the same mice

why should it be different in animals, whether human beings are supposedly reasonable fear animals very small, that animals do not?

  • There is nothing strange, why some people are scared from spiders and etc.?

  • Elephants often communicate and produce very low frequency sounds that humans cant hear. same is true about mice, such noise produced under distress by the mouse under might be the reason for this. its a very crude experiment nonetheless interesting.

  • The elephant wasn't freaked out,

he just didn't want to hurt something that was 1000 times smaller .__.

I say that elephant will go to Heaven (:

  • woman are afraid of mouses!!!

  • @conduke MICE, not mouses. and no, i'm a woman and i breed mice to sell them. lol

  • @AnitaCheesecake KKKKKKK you are completely right!!!.......thanks for the english lesson.....

  • @conduke I am a woman and i'm not afraid of MICE (not mouses). I actually breed them for a pet shop. So, there you go, i just busted your sexist myth. LOL

  • That is probably because it's a female elephant. Now try a male elephant. You might get a different reaction.

  • lol This definetly reminds me of tom and jerry XP

  • afraid or just trying to not kill something they recognize as another living animal?

  • It looks too funny! HUGE animal vs TINY animal, TINY WINS! lofl

  • i love mythbusters, but they're acting like idiots on this one. The elephant clearly doesn't want to crush it.

  • @Pist0npants they shoudl try it with some other small animal, like. . . .a kitten or puppy, or tarantula something like that and see if the elephant does go another way

  • @atgblue1

its not the size...its the high pitch noise the mouse makes..the elephant is sensitive to it

  • Stupid people would say it didn't want to step on it

  • 2:03 er you could of bitten its legs off or its head

  • maybe elephant are afraid of mouse because is white mouse.

where in Africa elephant can find a white mouse

  • @radumold1 darn' racist elephants

  • @radumold1

    You racists bastard!

  • @radumold1 lol what?

  • @radumold1

    Those Elephants must be racist!

  • @DJJaus All animals are racist! XD

  • @radumold1 maybe its raciest elephant ?

  • @radumold1 I was just about to say the same thing. I think animals naturally avoid unusual and strange things. Out of the ordinary tends to be bad. Like the vivid colors of many poisonous animals.

  • Woah :o How come?

  • elephants are afraid of mice because if the mouse decided to go in the elephant's trunk, then it would get stuck and die

  • Has anybody stopped to think that the Elephant didn't want to hurt the mouse, and that he moved out of the way as so not to step on it?

  • @EwePeopleRsheeple Lol! I was just thinking the same thing and then saw your post. Of course, we stupid people anthropomorphize our fear of mice onto an elephant, but we won't afford them the right to have emotional lives b/c that would be anthropomorphic.

Maybe the myth busters should dispel the myth that humans are worth a shit.

  • @suthrnreject

i agree with what you said about the elephant moving out of the way so is didn't cruh the mouse, but why the hell do you think humans aren't worth a shit?

  • @Zanmatt2g - Do I really need to explain that? I thought it was implied through the reality that we don't use our brains, but still think ourselves superior to all other life on the planet b/c of our brains. Aside from that, have you seen what we've done to the planet lately? We're so smart and superior that we're going to make ourselves extinct, but not before we destroy everything else in our wake.

You're not the least bit disillusioned with the human species yet, really?

  • @suthrnreject

Hmmm... so we are the only advanced species we know if in our universe, we came to be by hundreds of big mistakes and lucky events that were extremely rare... and we're stupid. What do you expect us to do, go live in caves?

  • @Zanmatt2g -We're so advanced, but we still can't live peacefully and sustainably? Huh? Forget we destroy everything in the name of profit and greed, let's just focus on our big brains. Brilliant!

Yes, we're fucking stupid - we lack emotional intelligence, maturity, humility, empathy, compassion, insight, foresight... We're robots with big brains. Whippee! At least we can console ourselves, should we ever wake from our stupor, that we're "advanced."

Thanks, I feel much better now...

  • @suthrnreject

OK, let's get everyone in the world together - it's "Everyone commit suicide day!"

  • @Zanmatt2g What the fuck is your point, or do you even have one? You still don't see it? Or just can't argue it? I vote for the latter.

You think we're advanced, but you can't explain why we act like freakin' morons by destroying each other and the only planet we have. And if someone points it out, you think it's an advocation for mass suicide? Tell me again how advanced we all are? So far, you're just making my argument for me. Go away little mousie, you're scaring me...

  • @suthrnreject Look, it's human nature to be violent, just look at our relatives; the apes. If you don't like it, you can take your life, fine by me. But I don't think our nature will ever change. If you're christian, blame god. If you're atheist, blame evolution.

  • @VonTavast - HUH? What is wrong with you people? Don't answer, it was rhetorical. Why does a criticism of the human species entail in your minds that I'm advocating suicide???? R U so sheeplike that the mere suggestion of it by someone else as sheeply as you causes you to glom onto the idea without giving it a second thought? What the fuck???

Please, point out where I ever said I intended to take my life. PLEASE!!

  • @suthrnreject No you don't get it. You seem to be so hateful towards the human race even though you are a human yourself. You almost seem to love to criticize humanity. So what I'm saying is, if you hate humanity so much, you're welcome to take your life, you'll be doing a favor.

  • @VonTavast-Not even a decent try at a save. But let's examine our accomplishments, and u tell me which one endears u to us the most: The Inquisition, The Crusades, The Witch Hunts, Native American Genocide by Conquistadores and Pioneers, et al, slavery, WWI, WWII, Rwanda, Uganda, Viet Nam, Chernobyl, 3 Mile Island, Exxon Valdez, Bosnia and ethnic cleansing, Gulf Oil spill....I can keep going forever, but u get the picture. Pick your favorite, and just for fun, see if even u can add one!!!

  • @suthrnreject ''-Not even a decent try at a save.''. Wow I like how you try so hard to humiliate people making yourself look smart. Aaand we're back to this pointless arguement. See? So much hate towards the human race. It's in our nature to be violent, and clearly you haven't accepted that yet. You also seem to forget that this was not the people who chose. You see, there were a King, a Pope, a Dictator etc. behind all that.

  • @VonTavast - Why thank you! But really, I don't look smart at your expense - you just don't get it, or choose not to - not my fault. Hatred? No. Disappointment, disillusionment, disgust - yes. It's not in our nature, it's in our heads b/c we're intellectually lazy and refuse to learn from our history, let alone the present. People are always choosing through their complicity. We could demand better, but we don't. Kings and dictators are made and allowed - think GWB. Get the picture yet?

  • @suthrnreject Hatred? Yes. Not in our nature to be violent? I'll tell ya if we would never be violent, we would never even exist. Kings and dictators are made, but the people don't get to throw them off the ''throne'' do they?

  • @VonTavast - Hatred? Okay then, if you say so! Gee, you're good at this... There are plenty of nonviolent creatures that exist. Hmmm...how did that happen if violence is a requirement for existence?? You miss the point anyway, which is what I'd expect from the average nonthinking, incapable-of-critical-thought human.

Whatever, you're boring the shit out of me now...

  • @suthrnreject Sooo much hate.

  • now i believe It..But i still have a question !!

why the elephants dont like and hate and afraid of mouses ????,,??

  • @fofarabs Mice and rodents carry diseases. It stands to reason that over time elephants have evolved to know that mice are dangerous and can cause sickness and death. Which is why they avoid them, it is a natural adaptation. If you step on a rodent, you carry all those diseases on your foot (and can make yourself sick), and/or can then track those diseases to your young.

  • Well, elephants are very intelligent. OMG! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is true!!!

  • I love mice :)

  • i dont think their scared of the mouse, more like not wanting to squish it

  • micephobia hahaha

  • Look at stupid Adam compared to Jamie. Adam's scared of the elephant (at the end, duh)! lol Jamie just wants to pet the elephant.

  • maybe elephants have a general respect for life

  • in the miind of the elephant " mice are small but terrible"
