I'm glad to see your name up here. That tape was recorded on a craig portable cassette - I still have the tape!.sent it to Glen S. for his fabulous website - IMO the best Laura Nyro website and way ahead of its time, Perhaps it will come back into its own now that she's headed to the Hall of Fame
i'm very glad to listen to this interview, but why do they both sound like they're either high, drunk, or hiding in a broom closet? Is there a baby asleep nearby? Mild elements of creepiness, but oh well. It's good for me to finally hear her speak about her work.
LAURA YOU WERE UNIQUE AND FABULOUSLY TALENTED BUT SO UNDERATEI WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER - IT IS SPOOKY HOW MUCH AMY WINEHOUSE LOOKED LIKE YOU WHEN SHE WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF HER CAREER SAD THAT SHE LOST HER BEAUTIFUL JEWISH INNOCENCE - SAD THAT YOU ARE BOTH GONE FROM US
I've loved her music for many years, but this is the first time that I've heard her speak and laugh and share that NYC accent, and share the "lingo" of the moment. Man am I blown away. Somehow she had the courage to be herself and as such was able to share her novel soul with the world. "If I meet a man or something that is very groovy," I just love it. Thank You Laura. And Thank You Fiasco9128 for sharing. PEACE.
Layra Nyro lived and breathe through the events occurred in during 1969: The effects of the Vietnam War, the deaths of Martin Luther King & Robert F. Kennedy, the presidency of Richard Nixon, and the launching of Apollo 11 & landing on the moon, to name a few.
@123kingkongphoto The video is said to have been wiped. Television used to do that in those days to cut costs. After the program was aired, they would record over the tape. We are lucky to have the audio as a Nyro fan held a tape recorder up to the tv the time of the broadcast and was kind enough to share it with fellow fans years later. Laura performed several songs from 'New York Tendaberry' on the program also.
anyone else think they both smoked a MASSIVE doobie before this started?

I think that's David Geffen, who was Laura's late-Sixties manager, in the photo with her.

I love her soft Bronx accent. Her voice is very soft, feminine and sexy. Too bad she was so publicity shy. Wish there were more interviews of her.

@swdanielson lol Had the same thought... Maybe the interview was done in bed... Sounds like pillow talk tone...

Her NYC accent? It is SO minimal.

Soft in speech, but powerful in song! I love Laura's voice either way, wish I could have talked with her.

She sounds like Mary Hartman talking about floor polish

@redtony58 What a New York thing to say, that is too funny.

@millvalleyrn I agree, she does sound a bit like Louise Lasser. The interviewer sounds a bit like Donald Sutherland without the Canadian twang.

Was this the same PBS show that The Doors sang Soft Parade on?

Great find even though the uptight interviewer is repeatedly interrupting her answers.
angelangel3000 1 year ago
@angelangel3000 " uptight " is being kind. modern terminology would be wooden or he is a real dork.
I think Nyro was warming up to the interview and you're right he was too formal and not letting her run with it
luthienTunuviel 3 months ago
WOW....Thanks for that !
I was reading about it...In Michelle korts book just today...
I would love to see the video...do you know where I can get it ?
