I was in the military for 5 years. We (within the military) know who is gay, many homosexuals, male and females, are openly gay. It is the same exact population percentage as you find in the civilian population (~5-10%). The same people who hate gays also tend to be racist. In fact i've only known a few openly anti-gay service members and they were also racist. I'm not saying 100% of anti-gays are also racist, but there seems to be a strong correlation between the two mentalities.
@Alacritous, If rights are permissions, then it logically follows that you must believe that the Jews in Nazi concentration camps did not have the right to live because their Nazi masters did not grant them the permission to do so.
TRUMAN did make a decision to treat all with equal rights so that the military could save money and everyone would have an equal chance to be maimed or killed.
She was correct up until about 4:00 when she said we are a constitutional democracy. This is incorrect. We are not a democracy, but a republic. A federal constitutional republic.
Funny thing about "unalienable Rights" is that they are "endowed by our Creator." You can't vote to take rights away or even to give rights. Those rights exist regardless of how other people feel. Our only duty is to protect those rights.
@TheLeviChannel In a romantic sense your statement is not incorrect. However, the Declaration of Independence of the USA is not legally binding. Our rights are not unalienable, and are granted under the constitution in the first ten amendments, thus negating the need to involve any supernatural being. Laying out the rules thus, lends to decrease the confusion which would inevitably arise when introducing ill-defined constructs. James Madison was a great man, may we sustain his work indefinitely.
@vidz4funz You are correct. Thanks for the clarification. I mentioned "unalienable Rights" to emphasize the spirit in which the Bill of Rights was enumerated.
@vidz4funz First off, our rights are inalienable, the reason why is that the SCOTUS uses documents of the time to find out what the Founding Fathers meant when they wrote the Constitution, and since the Founding Fathers agreed that our Rights are inalienable, then they are. Also, a lot of the founding fathers didn't think there needed to be a Bill of Rights because they figured that all 10 of those rights were intrinsic to the original Constitution.
@vidz4funz democracy: a political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them. Republic: is a form of government in which the citizens choose their leaders and the people (or at least a part of its people) have an impact on its government. 1/2 dozen in one 6 in the other.
But she is confused on the terms. In a democracy, all rights are up for debate and vote. Under a Republic, certain rights are inalienables and are not up for vote. She got it right at the end, not in the middle. That is why the USA is not supposed to be a democracy but a Republic. And that is why the word democracy does not appear in the constitution.
But I think the USA has degrade into a democracy alredy.
gay marriage, abortion, don't ask don't tell; these are all fabricated issues to distract you from the fact that giant private corporations and industry-magnate-unions are fucking you over. Sure, gay people should be allowed to get married and serve in the military, but it's getting way too much attention in the media and from politicians. Think about why for a second.
@dralol You make it sound like people aren't capable of processing more than one concept at one time. If most people out there are not capable of such, then I fear greatly for not only this nation of ours, but for all nations everywhere that seek out peace and harmony.
@CopernicusCenji people are capable of processing more than once issue at once but it's clear the media isn't. And most people naturally focus on what the media focuses on.
@boylebongo Please, enlighten us. On what planet does this make sense? She talks like Obama (?!?), and because of this, you don't like her. I understand that people such as yourself have this habit of using doublespeak so that there is some plausible deniability between your actual opinions, and what you actually say. So please, illuminate us.
I don't know if she interpretes the data correctly.
The question if white and black people should work together in the military most possibly wasn't posed to white people only. It's not an argument for racism against blacks. Most possibly black people didn't want to work together with white people, either. It works both ways.
Her point stands, though. "Deal with it.". There is no reasons why it can't work, we are all equal. There are no real problems with it.
@mesterse, as an American your lack of individual liberty and lack of rights to self defense (which is a human right) is bat%^&* insane and shows your govt doesn't trust you or it's citizens. Your govt mismanaged healthcare is also a joke and so are your hospitals, lack or nurses, doctors, medical equipment are also a joke, in life you get what you pay for. Enjoy American created YouTube. :-)
@dolphinsattack In life you get what you pay for. And what if someone doesn't have the money? Is it a sign of civilized state when a big part of your citizens don't have the right to a medical care?
@dolphinsattack I'm sorry, I don't think you're aware that Europe consists of a lot of different countries with different health care systems.
Incidentially, I'm from a country (Denmark) which is different from most European countries in that our health care system is a completely government run single payer system. It ranks pretty well, actually, and seeing that my country consistently scores as the most happy country in the world it can't be that bad.
@dolphinsattack If you don't care to watch the video here are the main numbers: Health care in Denmark cost half as much as in the US, 90 % are satisfied with their health care, there are 3.6 doctors per 1,000 people in Denmark vs. 2.6 in the US
@1jimmarch Dude, the 2nd amendment is so ambigious it doesn't really say anything about your attitude to civil rights whichever side you come down on.
On a related note, as a European, your 2nd amendment is batshit insane.
@spacefaget This is true. Even if the masses do not agree with Maddow (as I do) on this issue, history will paint them in a different light the same was as done to the ignorance within generations.
Sadly, the bigotry will be eroded a couple decades from now. The words "are you fucking kidding me?" will be used for this current survey about gays in the military.
