you could also say, what you did do, what could have been avoided, and why did you do it in the first place? the biggest export of goods in history by then, as millions starved in india. sad.
this ain't about arrogance or bankers....this is about sick fantasy...the temptations we ALL face.... the space between greed, pride and selfishness..."what are YOU to ME?"
this ain't about arrogance or bankers....this is about the fantasy...the temptations we ALL face.... the space between (good) pride and selfishness..."what are YOU to ME?"
i think you're right. But it would serve the video better if it was a story about young people pulling a heist succesfully. They are the 'nouveau riche' who, despite the money, can't change what they are.. That would set the focus more on the looting incidents of this year wich is (imo) more interesting. After all, are they not the 99 %? or is that the 10 % of the 99%?
Presumably this is the video they show to potential Conservative candidates. If you'd love to behave like that, you're perfect Tory material. If you think they're a bunch of disgusting irresponsible wasters, you aren't.
Money make you think you're almighty. Committing acts of violence among a group of people supporting you and helping you makes you feel within your rights. That's how the nazi plan worked, that's how the world is working now.
Plus, this has nothing to do with the UK in particulary. I think the Union Jack pants and Margaret Thacher mask (funny thing, I used to own one of these while being very drunk at parties) is just to remind us that those guys are likely politicians (DSK for instance !)
@rocksinoo Nothing to do with violence in the media either (do you see any reminder of the TV or video games, newspapers or whatever in this video?? Do you really think wealthy businessmen are that gulliable? Did Patrick Bateman play too much GTA?)
@ThePoorhillbilly you got the first part right, but should have added the "minority of" because this is not representative of the majority, same the world over not just Britain, rich get richer, poor get poor. Your second point is trollish and has nothing to do with this video.
@ThePoorhillbilly yeah we were fucking evil. look at how we stood in the way of hitler and then the soviet union. what a pack of bastards we english are. and those indians despise us, I mean the few left after the millions we murdered. the majority of them that you meet just aren't anglophiles at all, and the fact that they are speaking in english is just a measure of how oppressed they still are by us even now.
@TheBabyEthan - But this is a theory. my own personal belief that I would not wish forced on others. Far be it from me to say that I know how every person would react to such visceral scenes. And I think to end this novel of a response that I have written, I should point out the fact...er...opinion that this really is a tame music video. And a tad deeper in meaning than just shock value.
@CharlieSouth17 Hi, the funeral for my neighbour who was shot in the head was today..... and I have exams starting tomorrow so it may take me a few weeks to reply.
@TheBabyEthan - Now, as far as the argument over how violence in media desensitizes people, my stance is pro-desensitization. My reason is this: desensitization to violence does not equal complacence to violence. Violence and carnage are everywhere in the world, and I feel that if someone who has been exposed to said fictional content would be less likely to have a break down than someone who has been sheltered away from it all their lives. ...tbc...
@TheBabyEthan - Me, personally, I have seen the most vile fabrications and recognize the fact that it is a work of fiction. To that extent, there are no lines for me. Now, don't get me wrong, if someone doesn't like ultra-violent portrayals in the media, I am definitely not one to look down my nose at them. It's when censorship comes into play that I become a bit more fervent in my insistence on letting people watch what they want to watch, within the boundaries of legal margins. ...TBC...
@TheBabyEthan - I myself have done my research. As someone who gobbles up every bit of superficial violence in movies, books, and video games, I am also the same person who hates the ideas of true violence. I am firm believer that every piece of violent medium that's been blamed for some god-awful atrocious act in real life would simply have been replaced by another piece of medium had it not existed in the first place. EVIL PEOPLE ARE EVIL. Nothing else can change that. See: A Clockwork Orange
@CharlieSouth17 I would never blame a specific act of violence on the media because at the end of the day all people have autonomy and we need to take responsibility for our actions. But I do question what is the impact of the saturation of violence on our psyche as a society? Does it make us desensitized to violence, more accepting?
For you CharlieSouth17 - at what point would you say that is too much? How violent would a video clip have to be for you to say that it has crossed the line?
I was out doing door to door sales and i unknowingly knocked on nick caves house and he answered the door. He told me it inspired to to write a song and its going to be on the next bad seeds album. I fucked my papers awway, quit and hope to live off the royalties.
@CharlieSouth17 I wasn't offering a critique on the cinematography, casting etc..
I was providing a moral perspective on violence in the the media and the impacts of that on us as a society. Michael Haneke an Austrian film-maker who made 'Funny Games' in 1997 wrote extensively about this in his essay "Violence and Media". To quote him "I try to give back to violence that what it truly is: pain, injury to another."
.... he challenges us to question the saturation of violence instead of blindly accepting it.
"My films are intended as polemical statements against the American ‘barrel down’ cinema and its dis-empowerment of the spectator. They are an appeal for a cinema of insistent questions instead of false (because too quick) answers, for clarifying distance in place of violating closeness, for provocation and dialogue instead of consumption and consensus." – Michael Haneke, “Film as Catharsis”
@CharlieSouth17 - Google "violence media impact" and you will see an overwhelming amount of research on how images of violence is harmful for us as a society.
As viewers and consumers of violence in the media we too are complicit in the damage it can cause if we don't question it.
How the wealthy really live. It's about time they are rounded up and executed by firing squad. Confiscate their assets and put their severed heads on pikes.
Living on the Gold Coast, Australia and we are all a little anti-anarchy at the moment... there has been a huge escalation of armed robberies... it lead to a police officer being shot in the head. He was my neighbour, an excellent man and father to a 2 year old and 3 month old baby. The reality of anarchy isn't funny - it is just plain awful.
