Great song! It's a just a real shame that Texas was taken by force from Mexico. And the USA is a land stolen from red people, then made rich by enslaving black people. But hey, the yanks don't let boring little details like these from feeling all sentimental about Ireland - a land most of them couldn't find on a map

@seeitasitis A pistol for Paddy Garcia was created by an English Band called "The Pogues". If you think that none of us have sence then why did you use English music?
@Noodelydoom I think you'll find that the Pogues were London-Irish, the children of immigrants (and a number of their members over the years, like Terry, Ron and James are Irish).
@seeitasitis Let's not forget that the English are actually the invaders of what is now England, forcing the native Gaels into what is now Wales and Cornwall.
I'm from Texas and of Irish/Scot descent. I live in a town full of Hispanics. They are all glad that Texas was stolen by the people who live here from the Mexican government. Were we glad when the USA stole Texas from ourselves? HELL NO!
I predict that when China takes over and the USA becomes yesterday's news, the people in various states will see no point to being American and start calling for secession. One day in the future you might see Texas regain her independence
No. What we are talking about is the irony of Texans singing old songs of freedom when their ancestors stole land from Mexico, and slaughtered Indians whilst simultaneously getting rich off the backs of Black slaves. Not even the Irish sing these songs anymore. Only ignorant Americans who don't know anything about Ireland but are looking for some sort of identity keep this bigoted crap going. I bet these kids won't sing Old Man River?
And sure Mexicans and natives were the most civilised angelic ppls. Kind of reminiscent today that Mexicans are leaving Mexico in truckloads because they realise the land that the Americans (that includes texans) made is far better.
Not to mention the exploding Mexican drug war massacres. It's clear however uncivilised the yanks are, other cultures can be even worse.
Maybe Mexico is in the shit because someone stole a big chunk of their country? Things would have been different if Texas remained in Mexico and the Mexicans could have enjoyed the revenue raised by Texan oil. Their country would have been more prosperous, the Mexicans would have been richer, and they would not have had to resort to selling drugs to the US Mafia
Except that doesn't explain how Texas did better than Mexico before there was any such thing as drilling for oil.
Nor does it explain how countries like Germany and Japan get bombed back to the stone age and within 25 years are outperforming every other country in the world.
I'll tell you what does explain it, the nature and character of a people, and no corruption
Also Mexico like many other prosperous countries has had ample time to get its act together.
Stop making excuses for it, by doing that you allow it not to address what bedwils it, in the modern era, and getting down to making itself a functioning economy and society. RESPONSIBILITY and hard work can overcome all.
Yes but my point was, there was at least 150 before the oil was ever found, and they still made Texas a civilised and good prosperous part of the world, all without oil.
I agree that Texans are civilised. I have a lot of admiration for Texas and her people. But my point was not about Texans or Mexicans. My point was about the hypocrisy of these American boys who think they are Irish, singing songs that stir up hatred and cause death. Also, it is sickening that this band are happy to focus on the crimes of other countries while ignoring America's own dark history. All our countries are guilty of past crimes, and we mustn't judge other nations
"these American boys who think they are Irish, singing songs that stir up hatred and cause death."
Many Americans have lineage that goes back to Europe, and it is natural and very human and spiritually fulfilling to identify who you are, which is done by seeing where you came from. In that sense if these chaps have that ancestry then they have every right to call themselves Irish. Their are the product of their ancestors after all.
If they want to focus on other countrys crimes, so what, there are a million people focusing on how awful and terrible America is. Somebody has to focus on the good points and maybe focus on the bad points of other countries.
You cannot focus on everything, nor should you, you should be allowed focus on what you believe. there are enough ppl downing America as it is, I already know the evils of U.S.
The problem with always focusing on the bad things other countries do is that the people of the other countries reciprocate by focusing on the bad things we do, or have done. And the vicious cycle goes on. But if we focus on other peoples' good points, they will focus on ours too. It's ok to know about your lineage, but it is dumb to to try and fight the battles of our ancestors. I mean, how far back should we look when choosing our enemies?
Sometimes they do it anyway. In fact I don't see America going around focusing on the bad points of other countries, American tourists are in general very respectful towards other countries.
On the contrary, non-western countries live more according to nature, in a tough way. They regard any weakness as a vulnerability to exploit. They also do not need to reciprocate they do it all of their own accord.
It always starts off some idiot shouting his mouth off. And then other people, rightly or wrongly, hit back. American tourists might be respectful because they want to be in someone else's country. But I have never seen such bile and hatred as I have on YouTube. And sadly, a lot of it does come from Americans. I know other races do it too, but I have lost count of the number of channels where an American has insulted others without any provocation. That's all I have to say
"And sadly, a lot of it does come from Americans. I know other races do it too, but I have lost count of the number of channels where an American has insulted others without any provocation"
IMO, I would say that is a reaction to constantly hearing foreigners criticise America. Think about it, 250 or so countries mostly criticising and blaming you for everything and saying you are a bully. That will make anyone defensive and think others don't like them for no good reason.
I have a lot of experience of talking to Americans and the ordinary Americans are really good people, they are nice to talk to, and very very dependable. That is the more conservative types.
Hollywood and the U.S government are the bane of America and give them a bad image both from their horrid movies and their terrible foreign policies. Both of which ordinary country Americans oppose, especially if they know the truth about it.
"But if we focus on other peoples' good points, they will focus on ours too"
That is just not correct, and that is certainly not how it works. And who said anything about fighting battles of our ancestors. The point about ancestors was that these guys are quite entitled to call themselves Irish, as explained.
Limey punk, remember the brutality with which you treated natives of countless nations to never let the sun set on the Bitchish empire....oops sorry British. Hypocrite, judge your own nation before judging ours. Get your damn oil companies off our continent dickhead.
We do judge our nation - something that self-righteous, brainwashed yanks aren't capable of doing. Get your own oil too, without illegally invading small third world nations that can't fight back
@DavyTom71 No clue what you are talking about. My third grade history teachers addressed slavery and native american oppression in the US. Before and after the revolution. Even went so far as to extoll the UK for abolishing slavery well before the US. No goddamned clue about anything and Americans are called ignorant. Great Britain - International terrorists of the worst kind. Go and rewrite some more of your history to puff up how awesome Cromwell was at murdering people.
@DavyTom71 That wasn't my point. The point was that it is taught which you claimed otherwise. No it's not okay but people from England have no right to stand on a pedestal in regards to oppression and past injustice. Custer got what he deserved so at least there was some justice. Next time stay on subject or shut the hell up.
And you Americans have no right to stand on a pedestal, too... but it never stops you from mouthing off and moralizing. You're just pissed off because what I said burst your little star-spangled dream
Limey punk, remember the brutality with which you treated natives of countless nations to never let the sun set on the Bitchish empire....oops sorry British. Hypocrite, judge your own nation before judging ours. Get your damn oil companies off our continent dickhead.

@DavyTom71 Even Ireland was taken from somebody else. There were people there long before the celts invaded. I'm pure "Irish" and my blood is celt, viking, norman, spanish and god knows what else. If you go back far enough everyone's family has victims and victimizers. Get off your high horse and drop dead.
USA? You mean the British Colony...the Colony established by the Brits directly over the dead bodies of red people...you did mean those red people right? feather Indians not Dot indians? Because people in the USA had nothing to do with killing all those Dot Indians...who was that again. I dont recall, its not important anymore.
Dot Indians? You mean the people of India? We don't pretend that stuff never happened? We wish now that it hadn't, but it did. The USA might not have had anything to do with killing dot Indians - except the thousands poisoned by American company Union Carbide in 1984 - but Americans did slaughter or displace countless Native Americans during the 19th century, decades after 1776 after the USA had won its independence. Sorry to rain on your 4th of July parade, pal
@DavyTom71 Good post! I love! I love it! I'm American. I'm proud of it. In the other hand, when I look at our history. I get embarrassed. But then again, the history of the world is that of one group of people overtaking another group of people for the last 10.000 thousand years. So, WTF, we finally got somewhat cvilized. Look, Bush invaded Iraq, but we didn't colonized it. So, that's an improvement. Don't you agree?
@DavyTom71 Texas was not "taken by force" from Mexico. Mexico invited settlers to tame the land, and after the government changed in Mexico City, the situation became untenable for Stephen F. Austin's pioneers. It was an unfortunate series of events that cost many lives on both sides, but I do not appreciate an Englishman talking down to me about slavery or injustice.
More bullshit! I do not appreciate a lecture about slavery or injustice from a country that treated black people like dirt until the fantastic, heroic Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s
as for irish texas , i think you paddys want to look back and see how the US stole texas off the mexicans,, by force , oh i saw john wayne and richard widmark, davey crocket and jim bowie , bravely fighting the horrible mexicans, hes me thinking the americans were the goodies ,, in reality american stole texas,, and here they are going on about the easter rising lol , double standards
1 in 3 soldiers on the western front by 1915 were Indian Sikhs or Irish. If there were any "desertions" during WW1 they would have been to fight the British back home during the fight for independance. I would love to know where you got this information from, as I have never heard this figure before.....and I'm ex-British Army, an Irish Republican and an Irish Catholic!
jimi ,1 in 3 were not irish or sikhs , thats an insult to the hundreds of scots welsh and english regiments, ireland include everyone with an irish name,even if they have had the irish bred out of them, and include liverpool irish or london irish,anyway a lot of regiments like the irish guards were half filled with english,as with other irish regiments, replacements came from all over the uk, if irish had a third , that meant 270,000 must of died, the actual figure was far less
dont talk daft ,yes there were irish regiments and irish in the army , and are and were all reconised today , unlike the irish government ,who dont ,until recently that is ,and not in ireland i might add,,bbc , just common knowledge , ive heard it all before mate,, and if the irish had so many in the armed forces , why not overthrow the government,, and were where all the british soldiers then , while the irish supposedly fought for us lol
my mother was irish , and im proud to have the irish blood ,, my mother would have loved this band,, and i think shes smiling dowwn from heaven ,, keep briging it ,, just got the link to your site and will purchase as much of your music as i can find
It is not my site or my music, I just put this video together to share it with those outside of Austin, Texas. But I recommend you get their CD. It is great.
Irish soldiers had the highest amount of executions for answering back their officers. This was clearly racism and abuse that they werent willing to tolerate unlike their sheepish British co- soldiers.Some Irish that were executed were as young as 14. They were well entitled to desert as soon as they heard their brothers at home were rising up to remove the British bloodsucking parasites from their land.
buialeamscith , sheepish british co soldiers you say, thats rubbish , plenty of english were shot at dawn, for relitively minor offences,the only ones who wernt were the aussies who refused haig to shoot any australian, funny your talking about irish ww1 soldiers, we have always reconised all british irish and commonwealth troops , every year on november the 11th, its a pity ireland havent , only until very recently in a war cemetery did an irish pm lay any wreaths
well keo ,if no loyalty why did thay join, the soldiers fought for each other , and isnt it funny quite a few joined the fight against hitler in ww2 from the south, and isnt even funnier than lads from the south ,can still join the british army today , and do , one brave lad from the south died a while back in afganistan
irish sir name! religion ! read a history book the norman,dane and saxon all mingled with the geal,irish republicanism was born among protestants with no gealic Irish blood. It has always transended religion and race on ireland and that is the main differance between it and orangism/loyalism/Unionism...they have always been protestant only in their action and deed they have no catholic martyrs or pioneers...we do have protestants at evey level our flag is green and ORANGE!
jack envisionist himself on a white horse,garbed in suit of armour, lance in hand , the last defender of the "great" fallen empire. Except all he has left to defend is a "club" of nations.
Chivalry is alive and well as long as jack exists.
No, jack, I change names just to fuck with you. I only blocked you because you're a hypocritical dipshit. Will you admit to being warrenhobb yet...? I didn't think so!
Here you go, jack. Of course you won't believe it, but I was born in ON lived there until I was 15. Canada became independent in 1867, by them the british had effectively suppressed the indigenous people(now known as First Nations)It's hypocricy to site America's example.
If you know so much about the USofA's educational system. why did you say it was designed for jack of all.
The fact is, jack, you couldn't pass the Uni exams(did you even take them) and were too stupid for a prep school.
The university system I described is true in Britain, too. The declared major courses are focused on in the Junior and Senior years, after the foundation has been laid.
This is all news to you, isn't it, jack?
You don't know much about higher education, do you?
You don't acquire an academic degree in a "subject". Freshman and Sophomores follow a core curriculum exposing them to various disciplines and subjects. This opens their minds and gives them an appreciation for learning, diversity, and other points of view, and is the foundation for continued education.
The university experience fosters a love of learning that continues throughout live.
I don't see you possessing any of these qualities!
The Native Americans don't consider it a skill. It's part of their culture, and I respect that!
Ask me your question again, I'll answer it again, you'll ignore my answer again(because that's what an ignoramus does) and we can put it behind us for good.
I think we can also agree,MMAK1LL, that if jack makes it into Heaven, we don't want to go there. Spending eternity with jack and his ilk sounds like eternal damnation!
No, jack, nowadays you have to have skills the army wants, but when you joined it was for flunkies who couldn't get into college or find gainful employment!
It's true, I can relate better intellectually to MMAK than a dense piece of work like you.
At least he has a future ahead of him. You're living in the past, clinging to those glory days of yesteryear.Hanging out in the pub reminiscing with your chums about how badass you think you are
jack, how could you possibly make me understand anything when you have such a limited understanding yourself?
You want to brand me a terrorist supporter when you have no basis for such an accusation.I've never supported or contributed to any terrorist organization.
I understand why the IRA arose as a result of British atrocities in Ireland. Atrocities that would have continued if the IRA hadn't taken a stand against the Brits.
It's your revisionist history that keeps you in you ignorance!
trackingtracker,warrenhobb,warrenhobb3,jackmeogh,irishperson5, The crux is that you only think you're fully versed. It's obvious to everyone but you that you are wrong so often.
Because conglomerates buy out smaller brewing companies doesn't change their origin and history.Guiness is an Irish beer, brewed in Ireland. It doesn't matter who happens to own the beer company today.
SABMiller is a conglomeration of South African Breweries and Miller. It's British in ownership only. Someone bigger will eventually buy it.
I didn't say the Adams weren't British.They weren't brewers!
Learn to read, trackingtracker,warrenhobb,(3),irishperson5 and any other names you go by!
Unlike you, jack, I don't claim to be an expert on everything. However, I do know that in 2005, the brewery in Park Royal, London was closed and now all Guiness for the Irish and UK markets is brewed at St. James's Gate in Dublin.
Also, Samuel Adams family over here weren't actually brewers, but maltsters.
Samuel Adams almost ran the business into the ground when he took it over as he was more of a politician than businessman.
He sure didn't like you British. I'm surprised you drink the beer.
That I will. I should clarify that it is traditional American beers I don't care for. Many of the microbrews that have come about in this country in the last 20 years are very good indeed. I've generally liked beers from the British Isles, whether English, Scottish, or Irish. Old Peculiar was another good one, though it can be hard to find here.
Sure jack, I'll try again. I know you never admit you're wrong, but alas... you are wrong again!
Guiness is still brewed in Ireland, as it has been since 1759.
Harps was never owned by Scottish &Newcastle, but was part of a consortium called Harps Lager Ltd, that included Guiness, Bass and several others. Scottish &Newcastle left this alliance in 1979.Harps is still brewed in Dundalk.
Carling Black Label is a Canadian beer, owned by Molson.
Speaking only for myself, German beers are pretty hit or miss for me because I don't care for my country's (USA) traditional beers, and they are mostly derived from the German style - generally very light. I like heavy beers, so I'll quaff an English or Irish stout - say, Guinness or Sam Smith's over one of those any day.
That's true. The only "moron" here is jackmeogh.He's a real jackass who doesn't know jack squat!
He once stated that there are no ales in Ireland. Perhaps he's never heard of Smithwicks.
Guiness is the best selling stout, but lager outsells stout by about 2:1. Harps is the #1 lager sold. Budweiser is popular and Carling still holds its own.
Jack is not as astute as he claims to be!
He probably likes John Bull. He sure acts like one.
What the hell is up with that double-headed eagle, or whatever it is meant to be? The double eagle is very much a continental European symbol, associated with claims to be the heirs of the Roman Empire - and specifically was used by the Byzantines (who WERE the Roman Empire) the Holy Roman Empire and its successors in Germany and Austria, and the Russians. Of course, if it is supposed to be a double-headed Cardinal or Robin or something, I guess I have nothing to say.
Ok - but ours is the bald eagle. No offense meant, actually, though I see now that it looks it. That is what I get for posting Youtube comments while drunk. Like this version of the song by the way, the punk edge fits damn well.
You would be correct the double headed Eagle is of the Holy Roman Empire (More of a joke title name Byzantines were actauly the closet to being Roman) the Symbol of Freedom in america is the Bald Headed Eagle is it not.
its probly called Goidelic in other celtic nations, or else gaeilge is a branch of Goidelic, the scots had the exact same as us up to the 16th centuary until it very slighty changed and they call theres galic.
I know for definate that no Irish person calls our language Goidelic.
Tis Gaeilge and its correct to say Goidelic but no-one uses its ever, its an outsiders definition of a few languages!And if you hear a Taff, Paddy or Scot using it, give em a swift kick up the hole, posh pricks!ah you crazy mixed up yanks
not tryin to start an arguement here dunno were ur from but irish is a mandatory subject in ireland and ive been learning it since i was 5 and in irish it is geailge or else if you want to say it in english its just called irish
mine and millions of other irish born and breds grandparents or parents fought against the brits so we can do this kinda thing. think about it wat if the black ppl in the states wer never freed from slavery or if the 1916 rising had never happened. where would all of us be today? the fact is the ira have done to brits wat the brits to the irish for over 300 yrs
rasist basterds your just as bad as the brits if you would call black people that rember where that name came from nigger came from when the black people where slaves just like the irish wher slaves and called fenianens so watch it boys dont want to be as bad as them english basterds
@DavyTom71 Do you even know what a "Black and Tan" was and how cruel and hateful they were toward the Irish people of Ireland? Look it up!!!!!!

Their country would have been more prosperous, the Mexicans would have been richer, and they would not have had to resort to selling drugs to the US Mafia
DavyTom71 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
Also Mexico like many other prosperous countries has had ample time to get its act together.
Stop making excuses for it, by doing that you allow it not to address what bedwils it, in the modern era, and getting down to making itself a functioning economy and society. RESPONSIBILITY and hard work can overcome all.
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@ARTYeee
True. But loads of oil makes overcoming all a lot easier
DavyTom71 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
Yes but my point was, there was at least 150 before the oil was ever found, and they still made Texas a civilised and good prosperous part of the world, all without oil.
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@ARTYeee
DavyTom71 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
And what about the song is stirring up hatred?
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@ARTYeee
DavyTom71 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
"other countries reciprocate"
Sometimes they do it anyway. In fact I don't see America going around focusing on the bad points of other countries, American tourists are in general very respectful towards other countries.
On the contrary, non-western countries live more according to nature, in a tough way. They regard any weakness as a vulnerability to exploit. They also do not need to reciprocate they do it all of their own accord.
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@ARTYeee
DavyTom71 1 year ago
@DavyTom71
ARTYeee 1 year ago
@DavyTom71

That is just not correct, and that is certainly not how it works. And who said anything about fighting battles of our ancestors. The point about ancestors was that these guys are quite entitled to call themselves Irish, as explained.

Custer and the 7th wasn't too bad at murdering, either. Or was that okay because your history teachers addressed it?
DavyTom71 1 month ago
@DavyTom71 That wasn't my point. The point was that it is taught which you claimed otherwise. No it's not okay but people from England have no right to stand on a pedestal in regards to oppression and past injustice. Custer got what he deserved so at least there was some justice. Next time stay on subject or shut the hell up.

The USA might not have had anything to do with killing dot Indians - except the thousands poisoned by American company Union Carbide in 1984 - but Americans did slaughter or displace countless Native Americans during the 19th century, decades after 1776 after the USA had won its independence.

I'll take that as acquiescence.The closest a twerp like you can come to admitting you're ignorance!
joeysheehan 3 years ago
That I will. I should clarify that it is traditional American beers I don't care for. Many of the microbrews that have come about in this country in the last 20 years are very good indeed. I've generally liked beers from the British Isles, whether English, Scottish, or Irish. Old Peculiar was another good one, though it can be hard to find here.
tonygillis2007 3 years ago
Sure jack, I'll try again. I know you never admit you're wrong, but alas... you are wrong again!
Guiness is still brewed in Ireland, as it has been since 1759.
Harps was never owned by Scottish &Newcastle, but was part of a consortium called Harps Lager Ltd, that included Guiness, Bass and several others. Scottish &Newcastle left this alliance in 1979.Harps is still brewed in Dundalk.
Carling Black Label is a Canadian beer, owned by Molson.
Smittick's Ale is brewed in Kilkenny.
joeysheehan 3 years ago

Of course, if it is supposed to be a double-headed Cardinal or Robin or something, I guess I have nothing to say.

its probly called Goidelic in other celtic nations, or else gaeilge is a branch of Goidelic, the scots had the exact same as us up to the 16th centuary until it very slighty changed and they call theres galic.
I know for definate that no Irish person calls our language Goidelic.

mine and millions of other irish born and breds grandparents or parents fought against the brits so we can do this kinda thing. think about it wat if the black ppl in the states wer never freed from slavery or if the 1916 rising had never happened. where would all of us be today? the fact is the ira have done to brits wat the brits to the irish for over 300 yrs
