dont get me wrong boxers r great dogs i had 2 as a kid, but their not known for their guarding work like a american bulldog or a corso! i own a chinaman blood APBT and she will latch on 2 anything and wont let go for nothin and she isnt a gaurd dog. she pertective but not a guarder..
@rostine1980 they are actually instinctive watch dogs which means that they are initially standoffish to strangers, but will not attack them. They are also an instinctive guard dog(coming from the english bulldog) which means they are extremely deadly if they themselves or their family is threatened.
@rostine1980 that boxer sure got a grap which dont matter when its not being hit on because one good kick in the ribs of that boxers he release his grap faster then you can say hey
boxers are a powerful breed, they was until crufts and many breeders bred boxers with other dogs and allowed their blood to thin out, thats why boxers today are only small, not all but a majority of boxers today are smaller than their cousins, give thanks to the Nazis at crufts for that
@Galacticmaster Boxers are actually smaller than original bc they were bred with the English bulldog, and the English Bulldog only, but they are not any less powerful; their bite is actually stronger bc they have the under bite of a bulldog to lock his bite.
@Tattoo15k If a boxer 'locks' his bite it is for the same reason a pitbull does, because he WANTS to. There is no locking mechanism in the jaw. It is between their ears and in the heart.
@Galacticmaster It's been twenty-five years since I've been around working Boxers. The last dog I knew was 22"-23" and a very lean and hard 75#. His head was strong and masculine but not as huge as most American B'dogs or melon-headed pits but he was smaller than most all of the America Boxers I've seen lately. Clarify the changes in the breed for me. I will say that this dog was in incredible specimen and an aged German GSD devotee loved his confirmation and his working ability.
As a military dog handler I can say 1. this dog has great potential and may be a good bite work dog. However boxers are unreliable to bite when a target isnt wearing a sleeve The boxer thinks that the sleeve is a game and wont bite unless its being worn. But I have seen some dogs do well no matter the breed, including a black lab.
Yes overall they are not. However i worked with a guy who had a large male black lab named croc. The dog was only trained in scent detecting. we had another officer there as well. Anyway Croc was a active informer meaning when he finds drugs he barks, as opposed to just sitting down like bomb dogs do. When he started to bark the perp tried to grab the handlers gun. Crock leaped up and bit into the guys forearm. Now this is very uncommon but it changed my opinion of labs in a good way :)
how did you get your boxer so strong???
