I'm apparently gona differ from most opinions in the comments. I loved OoT so much more then MM. not that MM was bad, but it wasn't the game I wanted at the time, I think if they do a remake for it on the 3ds, I'll appreciate it more now, and maybe my opinion of it will change.
but to be fair, I never beat MM and OoT has a special place in my gaming heart.
Great video. As a hardcore fan of this game for many years, everything you talked about was accurate, articulate, and almost exactly the same way I feel about this game. The beauty of it is far to underrated, and it's something most Zelda fans gave up on due to the constraints of the three day time cycle. Once you buckle down, it's not near as bad as people make it out to be. I think it makes you more free then say OOT, because you get to do things over again if you wish.
Agreed, OOT was good and all but MM is WAY better even though it is very under-rated, btw ur hot :3 and yes... the British accent is sexy (Coming from another Brit)
I FINALLY beat Majoras Mask after like 10 years. First got it on Nintendo when i was 6 or so, but i had rented it and never beat it. A decade later i download an emulator and then the rom and voila, I BEAT IT. Rawr :3

Ok so yes Zelda OoT is VERY hyped. buuuuuuuuuut I wouldn' say OVER hyped. but i will agree with you that Majora's Mask was underappreciated. In majora's mask when you have to rewind time you keep your masks so you don't have to finish all the temples in one day if i do recall correctly (to be fair i haven't played it in about 6 years unlike OoT that i have on my computer xD) I feel majora's mask was ONE big side quest like you said so if you like that it's yes very dark but please finish...
also, there's a song that you can play on the ocarina on mojoras mask in order to slowdown time, allowing you to finish the temples with out so much hustle. finish the game! I agree, one of my favorite LoZ games!

My BLOG contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers" (use search words "SAM ZURICK" & "BLOG"). THANKS!!
Majora's mask was so damn hard, I like it because of it's whimsical, creepy appeal. I could never beat it though because I sucked at video games when I was young and if I wasn't progressing my short attention span took over. I need to get back to it, hell I could never beat the secret of monkey island when I was a child I need to get back to these games I played but never beat.
@Messmaster08 yea thats how i was but it was the first zelda game i ever got me and my cousin had fun playing it even though it freaked us out we only got to the giant invisable goron and quit so il need to get back into it
It's funny how I freaked out at the beginning when I first played it. "Oh hell no you didn't take my ocarina AND Epona" "Why'd you turn me in to a deku scrub?! you could have the ocarina but turn me back into human!" "3 days?! Aren't the days stupid short?" [Dawn of 1st Day] "oooo eerie dooooom sound" "Hey, why is there huge angry-faced moon above this place?" [2nd Day] "I am NOT finding that mask..." [Final day] "Woah, earthquakes..." -looks up- "Holy shit! flee! stupid guards let me out!!!"
I love wind waker, but I hate how hyrule has to be washed away:( my favorite zelda game is twilight princess!:) and my second fave Is phantom hourglass
i agree about the whole attachment to characters thing, what do u think about wind waker, i thought that was an excellent game, side quest wise especially, they were hard to find the side quests but if u do find them they r soo long and soo fun :D
I started to play this one because it started off with equipment and action right away (unlike OoT). It was on my new GameCube and I didn't have a memory card at that time, so I would have to replay stuff anyways for a good few months.
Definitely one of my favorite Zelda games. I've replayed it last year, but I haven't gotten to the end again. This video makes me want to pick it up again and finish.
I want a 3D remake! But with added content, dungeons, and explanations for the more obscure parts of the game, not at least the one time mention thing, like the dark tribe. A little more info about them would've been nice. >.<
I liked the character development better in MM, especially after reading Hylian Dan's beautifully written article: "immortal childhood". It gave me a more in-depth explanation about the characters. But OOT for me, had more logic in what to do next or finding hidden stuff. MM's time challenge was cool tho! Dunno which game I like more, but they're both on the top of my top 5... along with Wind Waker. Zelda <3
OoT splits into multiple timelines, wich is (adult link): A link to the past, wich splits into Oracle of Ages and Oracle of seasons, and (childhood link) from ocarina of time after finishing OoT link goes back in time 7 years ago and then starts MM. Since majora's mask dosn't really affect much of the timeline in the Legend of Zelda, i'd prefer OoT. But MM still is a beatiful game and i love it, thumbs up if you agree with my terms
@backupcop my kind sir, the link from wind waker it's a way another link.. lets call him "toon link" if you remember at the begining of WW the intro tells the story of the "hero of time" wich happens to be link from ocarina of time, and when the hero of time is gone and there's no hero to stop ganon, appears toon link and there starts WW.. you should check WW intro again
@backupcop a link to the past link, it's not the same link from WW .. A link to the past link splits into oracle of ages and oracle of seasons.. not "toon link" .. but that's speculation and a lot of time of research, you can choose to belive whatever you want, nintendo have never given the exact timeline.. if there's any timeline at all..
I Agree whit all of your points @superpaniland but I prefeer OoT, It has more Storyline and a little more of "sense" than Majoras Mask, but I also love majoras mask
Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda, and I grew up playing this instead of OoT. Didn't play OoT until 2 or 3 years ago when it came out on the Vitrual Console. But I'm glad to see you like it, too. And the dungeons in 3 days thing is not a big deal at all. If it gives you that much trouble, learn the song you need to get to the temple, save, then play the song to get into the temple and voila, you have a fresh start.
I'm playing ST right now, I'm on the last dungeon... Amazing game too! :D
Hey Pani, so glad I stumbled upon ZU, ur mailbag video, then you!
Love this video especially, Majoras Mask is my all time favourite game, and its great to see someone whos so into it as well. Its such a beautifully dark game. I hope you finish it soon? :P
I also really like the song of healing, it certainly sums up the atmosphere of MM, I dont think any other Zelda games have such a strong plot, characters and atmosphere like MM does.
Looking forward to seeing more of your vids in the future :)
I think Majoras mask is way under apriciated, Ocarina of time was a landmark , but that doesnt make it the best game of all time. Personally I think the 3 day timeline was a great idea, It was something different and presented a new challenge. I loved the idea that certain events happend at certain times and you couldnt complete everything in just 3 days, you had to go back and do it again, differently. Also gameplay, graphics, and diversity in characters were considerably upgraded. :D

I'm always torn between Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. I love Majora's Mask because of the dark atmosphere throughout the entire game and for all of the sidequests and stuff with the NPCs. But, Ocarina of Time, in my opinion is just more memorable. The dungeons and boss battles were a lot more fun, the areas were more enjoyable than the Termina areas, better music, etc. I love both of them a lot. I just feel that Ocarina of Time was a little bit better. Just my opinion, of course. XD
I want to tell you something it is a bit of a secret thing me and my freinds found out when i was playing the song of healing on the paino if you play it backwards it is saria's song or lost woods
I love Majora's Mask for its atmosphere, its unique and brilliantly executed three day time concept, the incredible variety, the exciting, mysterious world of Termina, the depth of the secondary characters, the dozens of neat side-stories, the transformation masks, the well design and clever temples, the darkness and the humor, the colorful visuals and the excellent soundtrack and of course, the sheer amount of secrets, hidden scenes, conversations and events, that add so much to the experience.
Well as a kid, I first started my Zelda career with OoT, and then MM, but I still think MM is a better game. When I would play those games, I wouldn't focus as much on the main quest, as much as I would just playing around the world, interacting with characters, and playing the mini-games and doing side-quests. To me, MM just seemed to be much more flexible and fun based rather than "epic" like OoT is.
i never commented until now, but you bring up so amazing points. i mean these points have been uttered over and over again.. but i feel like people just don't understand so its necessary to keep pounding these traits into people's minds. Majora's Mask is a great game, and my favorite of the franchise!
MM in my opinion as far as gameplay is an upgrade from OOT. a great plus is the sword upgrades. the whole beat them all in 3 days isn't so difficult since theres a portal at the beginning of each dungeon after you beat the boss that jumps you straight to the boss room. BTW you look incredibly beautiful!
majoras mask is my fav 2 and majoras mask wasn't that hard cause you can slow time down so you get double time and you could bank the money the boss i did have most trouble with was the 3th boss the fish and i really loved the goron race
I like to think that Link's Awakening is somewhat similar to Majora's Mask with its dark-ish story of how if link succeeds in his quest to escape the Wind Fish's dream everyone on the island will cease to exist. I totally agree that Majora's mask is great. Its definitely my fav, i think Wind Waker is the best Zelda game though, perfect balance between exploration, sidequests and main quests.
Well i like or should i say love both Ocarina and Majora's mask! ^-^ Majora is just harder then ocarina and most people get pissed off and stop playing and that why it doesn't have so many people as majora's. But whatever am a Zelda lover and love all of them but if u like majora or ocarina more that ur opinion and mine is both :D
I agree with many of your points... I suppose I just never had enough patience on my initial playthrough of MM, which caused me a lot of issues. lol But I would enjoy taking the time to do it properly. On a side note, you seem a lot more comfortable in front of the camera now, great job. :) The glasses rock, btw. ;) Oh, and, any plans for a Let's Play? That would be neat.
Yea I loved Majora's Mask. I see a lot of debates online about ranking Zelda games that just seem to go in circles...but ultimately it just comes down to what you as an individual thinks of it. I like to point people to my favorite games of all time, but I won't do much more than that. If they aren't interested or it's not their type of game then that's fine. Everyone's different.
It's nice to have people around that share your viewpoint though...They better remake Majora's Mask for the 3DS!
Something else I disliked was the fact was the repetive element. I don't feel like doing an entire storyline over for an heart piece. It gets so boring. You have to get that moon tear like 3/4 different times to 100% complete the game. And when you played you had to create a schedule. I had to take out a peace of paper and plan. Something I don't really want from a video game. Keep tract of the bomber password and ect. Its not fun for me. The notebook helped a little. But not much.
In my opinion Majora's mask was the most tedious and annoying game ever. It was not difficult. Just plain annoying. And Majora's mask is defiantly not under appreciated......Outside in the real world people care about MM way more then OoT...I guess its different in different places.
I sincerely hate Majora Mask. Mostly because of the save system. Having to reset to save everything? Impossible. I like to save while I play after I do something important. But with the owl statues you have to stop playing. Its so annoying...The save system ruined the experience for me. Whenever I redid my cycle I felt like all the work I did was for nothing. It really irritated me to do an awesome 3 day cycle then just have it all gone. As if I did nothing.
I'm not trying to brag, but seriously- I've managed to complete the first 2 temples within a single 3 day period and then complete the last two within the next 3 day period. Seriously, I'm not trying to brag and I'm definitely not saying that's easy for me, but if I can MANAGE to do that, then there is no reason for people to be complaining about not having enough time to complete 1 dungeon within 3 days.
@Xosgni That's awesome :D You should upload a video sometime, I'm sure it'd be really helpful for people who can't manage the same thing. I've never played through the entire game, so I probably won't be able to do that on my first try. :P Gives me hope for finishing within 3 days, though.
The thing about Majora's mask is that I hate having to collect the 15 faeries in the temples to get the upgrades. Uggghhh. But everything else about Majora's mask is pretty cool. :D
Majora Mask was the first Zelda game i ever played (yeah i missed out) and its funny too because i missed took MM for Ocarina of Time until 2 years later i notice there was another 3D zelda game before it. i owe a lot to MM because if it wasn't for that game i would have never got into the Zelda Series.
only thing i did not like about majoras mask was it felt too short compared to OOT games are never long enough for me but i think it was a very unique way to follow up oot
Also I love how the mystery of it leads us to so many awesome theories.
Paniiii, where did you buy your hoodie?? I really want black gold Zelda hoodie like that, it's so cute.. not the crappy green windwaker prints they have here:(
@xValerieAnnex From a store called Jay Jay's, I'm not sure if they exist outside of Australia and it was a while ago :( you could look online for a similar one.
And on another note: Wow, I was about to post this type of a video a while ago regarding how games like Ocarina of Time or any other game that changed dimensions became absolutely revered just because they changed dimensions. It's like you totally read my mind. Or something.
Majora's Mask is really special because unlike the other Zelda games, it actually deals with human interactions, emotions, drama, and the prospect of living when absolute annihilation is so imminent. Link himself practically plays a supporting role in the game because all those side characters we would usually not care about are pretty much the main focus of this game. It's really awesome that they made the game like that. I played OOT first, but I beat it after MM as well.
Seeing as how I have passed Majora's Mask over a hundred times I can say that, I can pass the first three temples in less than three days and almost half of the Stone Temple :P
To me, OoT has always been a lot like Final Fantasy VII. They are both exceptional games that I really love, but they tend to get even more credit than they are due just because they are massive mainstream successes, and the games that introduced a lot of people to those worlds
As for Majora's Mask... I didn't really like it at first. It's non-liinearity was confusing and frustrating to me. Now that I'm older though, I really appreciate the subtle but dark tone and very unique gameplay elements
i agree with u, majors mask is my favorite also. ocarina of time was my first game, like ever i think, and i love that one but there was just something about majoras mask that appealed to me. that said being that i was a kid ,dont remember how old, but the 3 day thing was a pain bcuz at the i thought everything reset... and i mean everything . so i played the first dungeon a million times before i knew i could move on, smh. but yea that aside i share ur feelings for the game.
MM and OoT are different. OoT is epic, groundbreaking, and original, but MM focuses on the small things, and it arguably makes it better then OoT (imo)
Also the 3 days, while I was tentative at first, is an amazing mechanic that to my knowledge has never been masked by any other video game. The sensation of going through the same schedules, or realizing you missed an event that is sure to happen at a certain time, is really cool. I wish the dungeons stopped time, but whatever.
MM and OoT are different. OoT is epic, groundbreaking, and original, but MM focuses on the small things, and it arguably makes it better then OoT (imo)
i actually like MM over OOT just cause of its mostly talked about dark atmosphere, well not just that i also like the temples to be more specific the snowhead temple, also the game unlike OOT has the eerie ablility to make me throw cups and plates across the room like doing the stone tower temple, i almost flipped my damn bed over it got me so freakin mad like really?? more of you AAAARRRG but yeah thats my opinion
For what you said about it being rather difficult/frustrating, and nearly impossible to beat all the dungeons in a 3 day cycle, the current world record speedrun of MM (1 hour 49 mins) beats all the dungeons in a 3 day cycle. In fact, song of double time is used twice because there is so much extra time :P
Majora's mask is my favorite game ever made. I love the sidequests, the masks, the bosses, and the plot. It really seems like you're in the game, seeing all the NPC's schedules play out and affecting their lives. It's one of the few games I think of as an art
Yeaaaa... I could never get past that part in the beginning... Where you're stuck as a stupid deku scrub thing. So MM and I just never got along ^^;. Sure it was great in the long run. But OOT was actually playable for me. So that's probably why I prefer it.
I very rarely don't finsish games. The only 3D Zelda game I have never finished is MM, because of the difficulty, and because it never really made me care, like most others say it does. I did finish WW though, a game which I detest. That might say something about my opinion of MM, but maybe not. I liked the scary transformations. And swimming as a zora was wicked. But I just became indifferent and discouraged by the middle of the game.
Ahh Majora's Mask, it's one of, if not THE BEST Zelda ever. Definitely better than Ocarina.
I think Kafei and Anju truly bring out the beauty of Majora's Mask, i I've always loved their sidequest and in my opinion, it's the best sidequest story in any game, regardless on whether it's a Zelda game or not. I also like how you see the contrasts between the eldest Gorman brother and the younger brothers, and how the older Gorman has a lot more problems than first thought. I find it sad how even t
I'd like to know what you though of the last dungeon of Majora's Mask, Pani =).
When I first played the game (I was a little kid then), I hated it. But now, I couldn't explain it, but it's by far the best game I've ever played (Paper Mario 2's second =D).
The universe is so interesting, thanks to the character...and so much interaction between them.
IMO, OOT is definitely overrated. MM's is probably the most underrated Zelda.
No worries Pani, I haven't completed MM either. I've tried, and I plan on trying again, but I haven't yet. It was the 3 days to beat temples that got me... just couldn't do it... I take my time in games and look all over the place.
I'm an older bloke (late 20s), so my first Zelda was aLttP, and that has always been my favorite Zelda game. No Zelda since has felt as epic to me...
@superpaniland Im stuck at the same place on oot as you i cant find all of the ghost things and i give up I'd really like to see you do a playthrough of oot or majoras mask ceep up the good work! =]
i like u better than majora's mask.

Im so glad Nintendo are considering a Majora's Mask remake even though Twilight Princess is my favourite Zelda game.
CrystalsOfPurity 7 months ago
I started to play this one because it started off with equipment and action right away (unlike OoT). It was on my new GameCube and I didn't have a memory card at that time, so I would have to replay stuff anyways for a good few months.
Definitely one of my favorite Zelda games. I've replayed it last year, but I haven't gotten to the end again. This video makes me want to pick it up again and finish.
dudeat1320 7 months ago
I want a 3D remake! But with added content, dungeons, and explanations for the more obscure parts of the game, not at least the one time mention thing, like the dark tribe. A little more info about them would've been nice. >.<
RawrinRaybies 7 months ago
I liked the character development better in MM, especially after reading Hylian Dan's beautifully written article: "immortal childhood". It gave me a more in-depth explanation about the characters. But OOT for me, had more logic in what to do next or finding hidden stuff. MM's time challenge was cool tho! Dunno which game I like more, but they're both on the top of my top 5... along with Wind Waker. Zelda <3

ocarinur of time?
eelco2012 7 months ago
OoT splits into multiple timelines, wich is (adult link): A link to the past, wich splits into Oracle of Ages and Oracle of seasons, and (childhood link) from ocarina of time after finishing OoT link goes back in time 7 years ago and then starts MM. Since majora's mask dosn't really affect much of the timeline in the Legend of Zelda, i'd prefer OoT. But MM still is a beatiful game and i love it, thumbs up if you agree with my terms
XxseberusxX 7 months ago
i ain't gonna thumb you up,wind waker is the start of the adult time point
backupcop 7 months ago
@backupcop my kind sir, the link from wind waker it's a way another link.. lets call him "toon link" if you remember at the begining of WW the intro tells the story of the "hero of time" wich happens to be link from ocarina of time, and when the hero of time is gone and there's no hero to stop ganon, appears toon link and there starts WW.. you should check WW intro again
XxseberusxX 7 months ago
then why did you say at the adult time point starts with a link to the past, you JUST cleared up it starts with wind waker
backupcop 7 months ago
@backupcop a link to the past link, it's not the same link from WW .. A link to the past link splits into oracle of ages and oracle of seasons.. not "toon link" .. but that's speculation and a lot of time of research, you can choose to belive whatever you want, nintendo have never given the exact timeline.. if there's any timeline at all..
XxseberusxX 7 months ago
why do you keep saying they're not the same links,i KNOW they're not the same links

Looking forward to seeing more of your vids in the future :)

you know, the best way to beat all the dungeons without using the song of time to save is to use the 4-day glitch

XD

Okay, so I wrote a bunch of things about this topic, but there is a stupid wordcount, so I'll do this in dot points!
- The Masks are mementos of what you’ve completed. (Also the Bombers Notebook)
- The Inverted Song of Time gives you 3 full hours to complete a dungeon.
- There is a Rupee bank
-Items are abundant in Termina Field.
- The 3 days adds to the depth of characters. Unlike the repeted events of OoT.
I could say more, but my word count is dwindling, I really wish I had more room.
ZanioCanica 10 months ago
Just play the inverted song of time, it doubles the amount of the time limit. You'll have plenty of time to finish each dungeon.

MM in my opinion as far as gameplay is an upgrade from OOT. a great plus is the sword upgrades. the whole beat them all in 3 days isn't so difficult since theres a portal at the beginning of each dungeon after you beat the boss that jumps you straight to the boss room.

TheNesdude1991 10 months ago
Something else I disliked was the fact was the repetive element. I don't feel like doing an entire storyline over for an heart piece. It gets so boring. You have to get that moon tear like 3/4 different times to 100% complete the game. And when you played you had to create a schedule. I had to take out a peace of paper and plan. Something I don't really want from a video game. Keep tract of the bomber password and ect. Its not fun for me. The notebook helped a little. But not much.
Nearsification 10 months ago
In my opinion Majora's mask was the most tedious and annoying game ever. It was not difficult. Just plain annoying. And Majora's mask is defiantly not under appreciated......Outside in the real world people care about MM way more then OoT...I guess its different in different places.
*prepares for dislike*
Nearsification 10 months ago
I sincerely hate Majora Mask. Mostly because of the save system. Having to reset to save everything? Impossible. I like to save while I play after I do something important. But with the owl statues you have to stop playing. Its so annoying...The save system ruined the experience for me. Whenever I redid my cycle I felt like all the work I did was for nothing. It really irritated me to do an awesome 3 day cycle then just have it all gone. As if I did nothing.
Nearsification 10 months ago
I like Majora's Maske and all but they never really told you what the motivation was for bringing the moon down to destroy the world

Xosgni 10 months ago 3
@Xosgni That's awesome :D You should upload a video sometime, I'm sure it'd be really helpful for people who can't manage the same thing. I've never played through the entire game, so I probably won't be able to do that on my first try. :P Gives me hope for finishing within 3 days, though.

eugenehk25 10 months ago
Majora's Mask is really special because unlike the other Zelda games, it actually deals with human interactions, emotions, drama, and the prospect of living when absolute annihilation is so imminent. Link himself practically plays a supporting role in the game because all those side characters we would usually not care about are pretty much the main focus of this game. It's really awesome that they made the game like that. I played OOT first, but I beat it after MM as well.

I very rarely don't finsish games. The only 3D Zelda game I have never finished is MM, because of the difficulty, and because it never really made me care, like most others say it does. But I just became indifferent and discouraged by the middle of the game.
