I'm pretty sure this didn't come out during the strike, as I remember watching it in spring training 1994. The battle lines were already drawn, mind you.
I also remember this commercial from the early 1990s. Love the stereotypical image of the owners. I am trying to recall if it came out before or after the strike around that time period. Anyone remember?
@zoom98 Thanks, Zoom....I had suspected as much. I agree it was a great commercial - really conveyed the idea that baseball is part of our national ethos.
Everything I want to say has already been covered by the previous comments. But still my gratitude is such that I add it here. I did not know this was Terry Gilliam. Thanks for adding that bit of vital information. I see no downside to doing sneaker commercials. He gets to create. He gets paid to create. And we get the enjoyment from what he has created.
I won't be buying any Nike sneakers, however. But I will watch this spot many more times.
Terry Gilliam kicks far too much ass to be wasting his talents on sneaker commercials. Then again, this is the most awesome shoe commercial that ever existed. So, I suppose I'll just accept it for what it is.

Always liked the commercial then and now but always thought those shoes looked super ugly and bland. Great upload and excellent image quality.

@eirespud Actually it came out DURING the strike. It was a sort of reminder to everyone that, "Hey, such a thing as baseball still exists".
In fact, this commercial is so good it should have been in Ken Burns's Baseball 10th Inning.
