Good start on your impression my advice not that you asked for any is to start your research if you haven't already, and start going to estate sales. You will often find WW2 gear there. Also try to talk to as many WW2 veterans as you can , since their going fast and you'll get a lot of first hand how gear was actually worn and what was used by the guy's.
