I'm working on a Typhlosion right now.

It doesn't have Flare Blitz, but that's the only clue - my strategy is under wraps.

I'm trying to think of a good name, I thought "TY" because it's short and to the point, but anyway I'm stumped.

...why did you go for reversal instead of Flare Blitz when you hit the bottom of your HP? With the blaze bonus on top of your flare blitz's STAB, surely it would have been stronger and finished Grumpig (i don't know Reversal's BP offhand, so I might be wrong).

I crunched the numbers and found that it would've done about the same damage to Grumpig, Grumpig would not have been knocked out, and the battle would've gone on the same way.

STAB= 1.5x

Flare Blitz= 240 base power

Reversal (not very effective)= 200 base power (so divide by 2 and you get 100 base power)

Flare Blitz wins (though it would have still KO'd you)

But it wouldn't have been enough to knock out Grumpig. That's the key.

According to your calculations, Reversal would've been 100 power, and Flare Blitz would've been 120 (due to Thick Fat). While Flare Blitz would be much closer to knocking out Grumpig, the damage done would've been healed through Rest next turn, and the battle would've gone on as usual.

The reason why I chose Solrock rather than Lunatone is because I already trained Lunatone in Pokémon XD, but I've never trained Solrock before.

Also, Lunatone gets good Special Defense. The Base Stats between Solrock and Lunatone are the same, except with physical and special stats switched.

Does no one check their sources? Helios was the main name for the Greek's Sun God, but the name Apollo was used by both civilizations. Jupiter, or the Greek Zeus, was God of the Sky, Rain, Clouds, etc., but Apollo was the only Sun God, seeing as his sister, Diana/Artemis, was the moon goddess.

I chose the name because there are people in the present day whose first name is Apollo, and I figured it's the most fitting name to give to a Pokémon themed on the Sun.

Doing the math, Flare Blitz would have done twice the damage it normally did (with the Liechi and Blaze multipliers, at 180), which would've been a little more than Reversal (150).

I don't know if that would have been enough to knock out Grumpig, however.

I know it doesn't raise the power of attacks, but it does make physical attacks 1.5 times as strong.

Also, when you have two x1.5 multipliers, they're added, not multiplied by each other. You get 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 2, not 1.5 x 1.5 = 2.25.

You might be mixing it up with stages instead of the damage formula since one stage increases by 1.5 and two stages only adds 0.5, thus making it only 2x the original (not sure if that's what you meant by EXP, oh well)
