I have what's probly a dumb question. I notice that pretty much the entire thing is metal, and metal conducts electricity. Did you do anything to protect against the potential frying of hair (mainly during a surge)? Or does it not matter as much because it's hooked up to a grounded amp? (I'm not a pro when it comes to the construction of guitars)
That aluminum bar looks like a straight edge for construction work. Is it 'empty inside?
If you injected into the neck some epoxy could greatly improve the sound. I would try, if i be you: You have done a great job, deserves it sounded better!
all o you buttholes who criticize this guy have absolutely no idea what its like to have the brains and ability to even imagine doing something like this. So piss the fack off!!!
@Marcucurucho If you were told this was a fretless Zon and there was no video, you'd definitely start weep urines about 'this true woody, divine sound'. Fucking experts.
Sounds like that bass would go extremely well with a bit of compression and fuzz. Good stuff, keep building the interesting instruments. And give us a fretless version some day! :D
If you talked shit to him in person, he could just beat the fuck out of you with it and keep playing with out a problem. I think it's cool, he should keep building instruments and getting better.
Interesting, your pickup is down where a neck pickup would be, but it retains a bridge pickup brightness. Is it because of the aluminum tone qualities?
that's one of the most unique instruments i've ever seen...can you make an eight string(4 w/ octaves)? i'd like to hear what one of those would sound like...
Your 4 steel string in the other video sounds a lot better. I don't think aluminum has enough mass for a proper bass sound. This one has metallic "ringing" overtones. Just my opinion.
that thing sounds really good man this is too cool i mean its gotta be satisfying to play an instrument but to play one u made urself that has to be an altogether wonderful experience
awesome. unfortunately companies in the 80's gave up on making guitars out of metal because they were too hard to keep in tune with tempurature changes. also metal deos not have the same resonant qualities as wood.
I agree. A piece of aluminum like that would be SUPER light. And as it's alot smaller it would be considerably lighter than an actual bass. Not a huge fan of the tone....but otherwise cool.
I bet a piezoelectric pickup would work well on something like that. I like your idea, the sound is rather nice. Try a bridge pickup and you should be able to do some slap style. The design really looks great!

than wood. That is why your tuners are made out of metal and not wood.
